    Dude this helped so much! You have no idea. This is literally the single best piece of information I’ve gotten out of all the research and stuff I’ve done. THANK YOU!! My wife says thank you too, we sat here and watched this together.
    My wife works online, we don’t have any kids, and we don’t have a house or “solid foundation “ yet so she will be able to travel with me to where ever I get stationed (as-long as that’s how it works I guess lol)
    After watching this I think I’ve made up my mind, and I’m going to go ahead and do the option-40 route.
    One last question..with the option-40....are you guaranteed to have a shot at being a ranger? Just so I can clarify.

    • @JohnS677
      @JohnS677  4 года назад +2

      Yes, you will go through OSUT then head over to pre-RASP where you will wait to go to RASP which is your shot at being a Ranger.
      Glad I could help man.

      You were such a great help. My biggest hurdle I feel will be scoring well enough on the ASVAB. Math, and test taking in general is not much of a strength of mine but I know I just have to study my butt off so wish me luck!

      @@ktaylor2509 when I took the ASVAB I hadn't studied for highschool level stuff like that for years, it was challenging and I was nervous. I scored plenty high enough but it can be challenging when you're out of practice test taking.

    How are the school opportunities for Regiment? I’ve read on forums that Rangers typically don’t get those Gucci schools like MFF, dive, SERE, etc.

    • @JohnS677
      @JohnS677  4 года назад +5

      Yeah, but not because they aren't v allowed. The only school you probably won't get approved is air assault because we do it all the time so they view it as pointless. Also a school usually has to have something to do to your mos.
      SERE is actually a walk on school so as long as you can get it approved by your command... Just not many people want to.

    Hey what are your thoughts on ranger medics? I couldn’t get the option 40 in my contract but I was told I could volunteer during Ait. I can almost max the Pt test so that shouldn’t be a problem, I just worry that if I’m a medic in the ranger regiment I’ll be somewhat left out of all the high speed shit

    • @JohnS677
      @JohnS677  4 года назад +1

      Being a medic in regiment is very high speed in my opinion. Just know that after you go to RASP you will be expected to complete SOCOM as well before you can be a Ranger medic.

    • @JohnS677
      @JohnS677  4 года назад +3

      Honestly I'd tell them you will wait until a slot opens up. Your not guaranteed anything once you sign that contract if you don't have it in writing.

  • @tonybayer2546
    @tonybayer2546 3 года назад +1

    So you would actually recommend 18x over 11x for those of us wanting to go straight SF/Rangers? Because to me, I'd rather risk being 11c instead of 11b and not get selected than to not get selected and end up being a cook.

    • @JohnS677
      @JohnS677  3 года назад +2

      I would recommend you getting the info and mayour own choices. Going 11x with an option 40 for 75th is a no brainier, they don't reclass you that way, you either make it or you go big army (probably 82nd). The risk is in the 18x contract, so if SF is what you want it may make more sense to go 11x first, then go to selection. You've gotta weigh the risk amd decide that for yourself.

      Your contract says you'll be needs of the army. So you could stay 11B but you also could become anything the army is short on. I have some buddies who became cooks, I became a mechanic.

    I could be wrong but what I think he's trying to say is if you're on the fence and think you might try to do it later, don't. Not all Army units are created equal and there are some truly shitty ones out there. And if you end up in one of them then you'll paint rocks and sweep the motor pool for however many years while the SOF guys are getting to do all the cool shit.

    Word of advice. I'm 27 I put off the army because I got married early on in life. If I could do it again. I would have not gotten married, and joined at 21 , too many things to do or see and I'm not talking about hookers or parties. Some people might say their wife is on board with the whole thing, and she might. But as a man shell always be in the back of your mind and you'll want her to be doing fine , shell occupy time and energy needed to pass selection or ranger school
