    I'm no expert when it comes to the differences on the variants (most the differences are probably label printing differences or pressing differences), but it's easy to see that the value of that collection is close to priceless. Also, each variants will most likely have interesting stories behind them. My copy of this is either the same or a minor variant of the last copy you showed, the remastered version, at least that's what my label looks like (not the traditional Harvest label like the others). Very cool, looking forward to the next video.

    If they are UK editions, you also have another indicator on the inner sleeve. There are usually codes or patent numbers there that tend to vary, and they are probably not all the same.

    Great to see those variants, appreciate you showing them.
    I was never a big fan of The side long title track, but the second side has some of my favourite Floyd songs, particularly Rick Wrights' Summer '68..elegiac and strange.

    That collection is impressive. I think £5K is a pretty good cost for that amount of sound jewels. On the Pink Floyd Archives web site you find information on each of the known Pink Floyd variants of their vinyl releases. The first vinyl is a third pressing (which is the one I have in my collection). All the vinyls with the 1G/1G matrices correspond to first pressings. Looking forward to continuing to browse the collection for more hidden treasures.

    You can pretty much find out all you want to know about these pressings on the Vernon Fitch Discographies page and also Discogs. Those '1G' pressings are all from the first issue. My earliest UK pressing is from the second issue. I also own the UK Quadraphonic and the Mobile Fidelity Anadisq. Most of the UK pressings I have from the '70s & '80s were mastered by Harry Moss (HTM) and I think they were all pulled from the same tapes because they don't sound vastly different and are mostly excellent. If any of your 1G copies are up for sale, let me know.

    Looking forward to seeing the Piper variations. Hopefully you have a true 1st press mono in there without the 'pop group' shown on the flip back. I'm sure there'll be a few stereo versions in there as well. Their best lp for me as I prefer their psych period with Syd Barrett. Chemical Brothers sample a guitar riff off Let There Be More Light on Saucerful Of Secrets btw. I'm sure you'll recognise it when you hear it. Cheers Nigel

    The first copy you show is a post 1973 issue. Reason: it has "EMI Records Ltd." on the rim text. The Gramophone Co. Ltd. changed to EMI Record Ltd. in 1973. So cannot be earlier than that.

    @brucevair-turnbull8082 Месяц назад +1

    Interesting. I believe the earlier Harvest labels had no boxed EMI logos and stated 'Gramophone Record Company' NOT 'EMI Records' on the rim. I have Kevin Ayers and the Whole World on that earlier label.

    • @thevinylvault
      @thevinylvault  29 дней назад

      It think it's fairly normal in the vinyl community to collect multiple varients, issues and versions.

    • @simonwood992
      @simonwood992 29 дней назад +1

      @@thevinylvault especially for a mediocre and fairly common lowish value album such as AHM, no way. Just one near mint uk first pressing will surely suffice, ie no EMI at 9 O'clock, gramophone rim text and 1G matrices. A dozen copies is ridiculous unless used as investment for good profit

    • @thevinylvault
      @thevinylvault  29 дней назад

      Thanks for the follow up. I am doing my best to keep up but I am still not fully up to grips with it all. I don't fully understand your comments relating to the "no EMI at 9 O'clock, gramophone rim text and 1G matrices" It's not you I am just trying to get my head around if the ones I have are first presses or not.

    What a nice collection. I have been in this game for 40 years and have never met a lady collector who has been interested in purchasing so many different pressings (of the same LP) because of the stamping codes and matrix numbers. Collections like this normally turn up when someone has sadly passed away. I really do think you know far more than you make out. I wonder if your Hip Hop past is totally true or this was a collection you have made up.

    I did not count the number of copies of 'Atom Heart Mother' but it must have been a dozen. I still like the title track. But I know that the story of writing and arranging it in 1970 was a torture to Roger Waters, but a peak but troubling experience for Richard Wright. Perhaps the version that draws the listener in best in 2024 is a 2008 live rendition led by David Gilmour and supported by co-writer Ron Geesin. enjoy... ruclips.net/video/EzpSWU8rpx4/видео.html

    Realistically would someone who by their own constant admissions knows very little about records just pull out £5000 for a collection. A lot of money to spend if you’re not sure what’s what. It’s a nice collection no doubting that but it all doesn’t add up to me if I’m honest.
