    His Videos are amazing, He speaks very clearly (not very fast, also not very slow) so it is very easy for non English speakers like me to understand what he is talking about, and his explanations are very precise and clear, it just gave a direct information into your head, which makes us remember more things. This is a perfect video for the absolute beginner. He is also very Professional. Thanks Man !!!1

    Three years ago I got a MAC, LPX, the Focusright and a $20 midi input keyboard. Thanks to this channel (and many hours spent on it) I am now coming up on the end of my third album and I'm proud to say that I feel the sound quality holds up. I mean, there's still things I'd like to improve but I am satisfied. Now the process is really starting to speed up. Thanks for everything Josh, I would never have accomplished this without you. Guys, if you're trying to figure out how to proceed with finally getting your songs done up, listen to this man! I knew absolutely nothing about home recording. Followed these tutorials (using my own recordings) and in just a few weeks (about 50-60 hours a week of work mind you but...) I was amazed at what I had. I've barely listened to anything but my own stuff for three years now haha I just can't believe it exists now and how quickly Josh got me there! I'll have to send you my first two discs when they are done. Oh, I did put a couple here on RUclips if anyone wants to listen, it's all done with what you see in this video and following my MusicTechGuruGuy! I'm about to go over it all again in the 202 series which I'm behind on but anxious to get into.

Quick question if you have time.... do you know why I can't just click to change/enter the tempo (bpm) in the top menu bar ? I used to be able to do it. Now, I get this drop down slider that I have to adjust... I am running 10.4.4. Maybe some preference I need to set up ? ps The Drummer plug-in lessons were really helpful.

    Thank you so much for the great videos! Subscribed. One thing I can't seem to figure out, though -- are there any guidelines for what the target meter level should be when recording electric guitar in Logic? I'm using a Steinberg UR12 into Logic and am seeing input levels up to like -9dB when I set the UR12 gain to just below clipping, around nine o'clock on the input gain knob. This gets up to about -5 or -6dB if I record to a track that has a preset applied to it in Logic. Will those levels be a problem when mastering a track (not enough headroom)? I'm no engineer, as you can tell. Thank you again, and peace! :)

      Recording mono and mixing mono are two different things. Even if you record with only one mic, there might still be stereo elements in your mix. Panning, reverbs, delays, modulation effects,etc. you need 2 speaker’s

    Logic is $200 a year? Or one time? I got mixed up with how he said it. He said a one time fee and than he said pro tools were $1000 a year than he said logic was just $200. Just trying to clarify.

    What if the vocalist wants to hear their voice louder but you can't turn the gain up?

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  4 года назад +1

      Turn up the channel fader for the vocals in your DAW. The volume in the DAW doesn’t affect the mic recording level.

    • @georgewotigbah8528
      @georgewotigbah8528 4 года назад

      MusicTechHelpGuy whoever told you that? It affects mine, that’s the whole point in using it to get levels right prior recording right? Also I think I didn’t clarify, I mean during recording. It’s been a bit of a riddle but I think it’s down to the software for my interface to change the individual things while live recording without affecting anything. Thank you for the reply.

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  4 года назад +1

      @@georgewotigbah8528 Who told me that? 15+ years of being a professional recording engineer told me that. Mic preamp gain, and adjusting the volume level on a fader in your DAW are two VERY different things. You have to set your preamp gain first to get levels, then you 'trim' the volume in the DAW when mixing, but if you're just tracking and the singer can't hear themself very well (and you're not using a separate monitoring system or headphone cues), then just pull up the volume fader up for the vocal track that you're recording so they can hear themself better, then pull it back down when you're done recording. Adjusting your volume fader in your DAW does NOT affect the recording/mic level. It just raises or lowers the recorded volume of the level that you've already set with your mic preamp gain (or preamp gain on your interface). You never use your DAW faders to set recording levels.

    • @georgewotigbah8528
      @georgewotigbah8528 4 года назад

      MusicTechHelpGuy MusicTechHelpGuy ah ok, sorry I came across like an A hole. I didn’t mean to patronise, I actually watch your videos to help me with logic, they’re super helpful. Don’t hold my frustration against me ha.
      So it won’t clip if I turn it up through the DAW even though it will go into red? I get confused when it comes to the desperate monitoring system or headphone cues. Is there anywhere I could get help for this in the way you explain things? I have a Scarlett 6i6 with two separate headphone outputs and volumes but it doesn’t seem to have a simple way of changing separate tracks while recording. I found that the focusrite control helps but there isn’t much play with the volume. Thank you again for your help, the way you have explained will hopefully sort out my issue.
