how far a team goes is the result of the quality of the players, the efforts they make, luck AND the coach, in this case, Southgate had good players, a lot of luck, but he cost his team by clearly omitting some players (not only did he leave Grealish at home, he didn't use a left winger at all !, instead he put three players in two places (Saka, Foden, Bellingham just cannot play together, none of them is a left winger, two like to play in the center, and two like to play on the right wing, it's an idiotic decision and was easy to fix !, and while Kane wasn't in top form, the situation behind him made this worse, England didn't deserve to go this far in the tournament at all.
