Chaining up. Let some air out of the tires. Put the chains on tight. Move forward a few feet then air up the tires. Now your chains won't have any slack.
V bar chains are the only way to go! I ended up buying another set for the front as well…don’t forget to enjoy the beauty and the adventure, while your anxiety is running. Be safe.
I was always taught, if ya only have one set of chains for a 4x4, put them on the front. Just the rear will bind up the front differential and blow it out. Hopefully you have a safe trip, thanks for sharing.
I can't stand the wait Timmy!! It's building, I'm kind of getting anxious and scared at the same time. I know those passes/switch backs are sketchy scary. You did fine I'm sure 😊.
His tires are so big it may be difficult....but in those areas thrift stores usually have used (usually unused) tire chains. I have bought them in Cali for $5/pair ..I came home with no less than 6 pair chains and 2 sets of cables...in addition to the 4 of each i already had with me for emergencies..... good thing it was a one ton.
You can rest the ramps for the trailer back ( ___/ ) rest the weight of the ramps aginst the chains. I found out the hard way, hopefully that helps if you need to get some weight off the tongue. Safe travels!
What a highway! Driven that one so many times and it is always nerve racking going from pemberton to lillooet . Amazing you took the f350 uo in the winter !
I broke my front axle stubshaft by chaining up on my 01 f250. I only chain the rear now. Just slow down before the corner and gas it through the turn while in 4x4 to steer better.
Hey man I enjoy your your channel I'm a semi truck driver a little pointer always put your chains on the rear especially since all your weight is think about it all the semi trucks always have the chains on the rear drive tires even going down hill it's safer for you buddy 😉 I've been doing it for years be safe and take care
I had to drive home via hwy 99 back in November after a huge mudslide closed it (and pretty much every hwy to the BC interior) From Pemberton to Cache creek I passed two vehicles. I’ve driven the Duffy many times, but never like that.
With only one set of chains on 4x4 I would put one on rear and one on front on opposite sides, much better with the load you are hauling… Love the Vids keep it up…. NICE SAMMY!
Okay Timmy there's nothing like a little suspense, but I'm pretty sure you didn't make it up very far with that tight of a clearance besides I could have swore I saw those chains on the front of that rig in some previous shots bro ?
When i first saw those wheels on your rig ,i was going to ask if maybe a neg. offset wheel woulda been good for Alaska winters and chaining up. We have been enjoying this video series. Stay safe..man.
I thought the drivers side chain you initially put it on with the camlock to the outside?? It was worth your time to take them off and swap to the correct direction. Hint: the little hole is for the cam lock tool not the slot. You will find it should fit perfectly. I have the same chains for my 95 OBS PSD. When done properly you shouldn't need bungees. Also when you get a chance paint the tool red or some bright color so when you drop it in the snow at night it's easier to find. Don't ask how I learned that...... As mentioned, and you probably already know the tongue weight, combined with the camper, is causing your headlights to be high and the reason you're getting flashed, and not in a good way 😯 Love the Sammie, other than the problems. It looks like it has a ton of potential!! I have a 91 tracker, they are a ton of fun. Hopefully you can get it finished and enjoy it. Drive safe.
Oh man…. This is a cliff hanger….lol. Thumb nail showed chains on the front tires so I’m assuming that they didn’t work on the rear…. Good luck brother 🤟🏼🇺🇸
I don’t think any of your videos have left me hanging as much as this one lol I was amped for you to hit that hill climb and then all the sudden the video ended haha
I use to live in Squamish and drove to whistler/pemberton and burken to work 3 days a week all year round. Not bad drive but often would pass 4-10 vehicles in the ditch every trip during the winter. Just people with summer tires or driving without caution.
I did that drive thirty years ago, when it was a dirt road. We saw kids on the Mount Currie reservation coming home from school, three to a horse, riding bareback. Wild horses too; not sure if they're still around. Sketchy AF then, sketchy AF now, but still one of the most beautiful drives in the world. Don't imagine you had much time or bandwidth to enjoy the scenery. I recommend doing it again in early September, when the leaves are just starting to turn and the river is gorgeous.
Park City Utah ski areas are linked up. And pretty vast/huge. They might link up Alta, Brighton, Snowbird over the pass to Park City one day. Which would make it as big as linked areas in Switzerland/Austria.
LMAO watching you "chain up"....try putting them down in a straight line ahead of the tire then driving onto them, much easier to drape them over the tire like that, and get some real spreaders!
You put your chains on backwards usually that part you tightened goes on the outside. Easier to tighten it in a snow storm instead of trying to get under your truck. Also the link that hooks to another one will won’t fail before the front side does. You do it that way and your chain brakes you just rip shit apart.
Timmy, Timmy, Timmy. Ok I can see why you didn't want to take the chains off and put them on correctly, I always hated chaining up. But with a big truck I could cheat, I would drive the inside tires up on 4x4's and just put singles on the outside tires, 4 singles on my drives got me thru. Hope those new chains don't stretch to much and the cams hook your springs.
Hi Timmy Im Jim, I am a retired U.S. Army soldier and former Oreilly store manager. I now travel the U.S. as the custodian of the Vietnam Veterans traveling wall.. I did 22 years as a Tank commander then got smart and went into supply. The Cummins engine is great in the Dodge but the issue with Dodge is everything to include the voltage regulater is controlled by the computer. I actually drive a Chevy with a Duramax, Good truck but absolutley no power in the mountains etc. the Ford Is a absolute hoss at everything. we are getting done with the Chevy and buying another Ford. the Turbo ford diesel is more fuel effecient and is more power than the Chevy and just a Hoss. That Powerstoke is a hell of a engine it runs clean and great torque. and more fuel efficient. we are going to keep the chevy for a backup but goingall Ford. Hey.... I love the chanell my friend
Just DONT buy a post 2003 PSD. Some really clean ones are on FB marketplace and Craigslist. Timmy's, the if super clean would be $25-35k. My feeling is they are worth it. New vehicles are SUCH JUNK. I just grabbed a 1997 standard cab, ZF5 PSD w/ 32k on the odometer. It is a functional store of wealth. It won't drive it much, plow the farm and cabin haul skidloader, tractors....that about it. I have a TON of pre 1987 F-series here, and a bunch of E-series vans 1990-2014 (some w/ IDIs)... PSD, IDI, and 300 sixes. AND one anomaly 1980 CJ7 just for play. I have had a few 2000-2003 F550s...If your hauling they are awesome. Wolf in sheep's clothing.
Hi Timmy. I enjoy watching your adventures. It's fun to watch people on the move. I like to look forward to my next road trip. I was curious what your attachment, or attraction is to the Samurai. What do you use it for? I love my Subaru Outback. It's my ride. Fun car for windy roads in the winter.
always chain rear ,,, get yourself a good set of single trigs (they have a metal arm that is used to join ends NO CHEAP HOOKS)and fit them before first use ,,, make personal ajustments,,, no camlocks !!!!!!!!..... and lay chain over tires no equal leangths ,,reach from back of tire and just loose hook inner and out side ,,,roll forward and now rehook inner as tight as possible ,,,same on outside ,roll forward 2 or reveloutions and retighten ,,hook bungy cors and go ,,,,if you can hear a rythmac type sound your good ,,,,sorry for the typos but imma dumb BC logger slash trucker
Back in the days of Letterman a journey like this would have been something he woukd have put on his show for a segment every night. Especially the part when DOT canada digs you out from under an avalanche. 😂
I really hope you switched those cams around or at least do next time. Way to tight of clearance near a critical component of the vehicle. Great work keep up the awesome vids!
I know you have been up the Dalton Hwy, I saw you last year if I remember right. You should ride with me sometime in the winter of course. I would love to see your reaction driving thru a nasty blow, lol!
Chaining up. Let some air out of the tires. Put the chains on tight. Move forward a few feet then air up the tires. Now your chains won't have any slack.
This is like a mini series. Love it. Can't wait for the next.
The most fun set of video's you've made. Your pain is our gain. thnx.
Murphys Law in Action.
I'm really addicted to these daily "edge of your seat" videos. You can't ever stop or I'll be devastated.
Dude! I hate your cliffhangers! You’re killing me! I’m just glad you are posting these every day. These are super fun!
V bar chains are the only way to go! I ended up buying another set for the front as well…don’t forget to enjoy the beauty and the adventure, while your anxiety is running. Be safe.
Four chains, four cables. All good

Love this series! thanks for making these videos.
Never knew truck house life could be so intense!
I was always taught, if ya only have one set of chains for a 4x4, put them on the front. Just the rear will bind up the front differential and blow it out. Hopefully you have a safe trip, thanks for sharing.
love how you get plenty of advice and "challenges" thrown at you. Just be safe young man
I know Alaska is beautiful but I couldn’t take the cold depressing weather. Be safe out there!
I can't stand the wait Timmy!! It's building, I'm kind of getting anxious and scared at the same time. I know those passes/switch backs are sketchy scary. You did fine I'm sure 😊.
@@deepsix1827 yeah & no, I thought that with the load he's hauling, it was ify...scary to me. Hope he pulled it off is all I have.
Keep it coming Timmy! Great little series you have going here.
Sick. Looks fun. I like how you made it a series.
3:05 "As I leave Whittier" Alaskan brain right here😂
Living on the edge. Safe travels Timmy.

My favourite road ever. Love the 99!
I wonder if the next video will show him fixing the chains the correct way.
The awesome adventure continues! Welcome to Canada, baby! 👍😎🇨🇦
Aye carumba . Thank god for your past experience /history.
Spent many years at ski resorts...memories.
Your finding such outstanding driving conditions...😁.
Go Gadget Go! A man with a plan....
Good luck to that bike !
You are AMAZING.. & Fearless! I was so nerbpusv watching your craziness....🙏
I thought you were making a bad decision leaving the first spot.
Yea, those truckers were waiting 24 hrs for a good reason.
I AGREE.!! That was my thought..
just WAIT...you have your house with you.
One set of chains towing to Alaska in the dead of winter 🤪
Exactly
Like my kid and I always say: safety, our number 3 priority
1. Food
2. Fun
3. Safety lol
Take it easy and have fun bro!

Very few channels I will like the video before I watch it ....this is one ... :)
I'm here watching every day to see what kind of drama you fall into! Keep on keepin on, brother!

Thanks for the lesson about how to put on chains!
Okay Timmy there's nothing like a little suspense, but I'm pretty sure you didn't make it up very far with that tight of a clearance besides I could have swore I saw those chains on the front of that rig in some previous shots bro ?
Love the vids man keep up the good work! Timmy where did you get your boots?
When i first saw those wheels on your rig ,i was going to ask if maybe a neg. offset wheel woulda been good for Alaska winters and chaining up. We have been enjoying this video series. Stay safe..man.
Yeah I have the same wheels and was very glad to get a bit of offset from the methods. A bit more width helps carrying my truck camper!
Just did a trip to Squamy myself. Enjoy the rest of the trip!
nice!
Be safe my guy more dangerous roads ahead
From slab city to Alaska!.......envious!
Tire socks. Look them up

Looks that way eh?
They are the good "welded half link" style at least. I carry four
my bet is they hit on the rear spring assemblies. keep on truckin Timmy
@@frank4fun64 agreed. AND if you'd like to KEEP your rear brake lines intact you don't want to spit a chain!! Dont ask how I know that one. 🙄
That was me !!!!
Nice man haha! Figured you might see this;)
Hey Timmy, kind of funny being an old video but your bungy cord hook flew off under your truck at 10:33 when you grabbed the chains. Haha
Bro ive been watching your videos non stop lol it really is good content
City.. forget about em!!
Go Timmy!!
You can do it!!
1000 mile detour!!
Cabin it up!!
Ya gotta Ride It!!
I don’t think any of your videos have left me hanging as much as this one lol I was amped for you to hit that hill climb and then all the sudden the video ended haha

Aagghhh! The suspense is killing me!!
I really enjoy your videos..
Very good video. Interesting journey . God Bless !!!
Omg decisions 🥺. Get another set of chains 🙏🏼. Best Wishes be safe
Love the videos; they go by so quickly!! Feel like you haven’t been back to Alaska in forever. Hey did you quit the driving school gig? Just curious

Yup the 7.3 has treated me well, I've heard about the Dodges, but I already have a 7.3 so sticking with it. See ya out there on the road!
I sure hope the chains settle in and don't hit the bolts!
In a pinch, use an nrs strap to tension the chains.

yup!
Could try loading the Sami backwards, to change the tongue weight
I wish, explanation in todays video;)
Not to say anything about all that 7.3 holding that baby down I have had my straight up with just fronts on yeah!
The suspence!
I see you wear Stegars boots,I wear them too! I am a retired mail carrier
yup! They're the best winter boots ever!
Wish I saw you in Squamish
Bungees are best. Pull'em tight as hell. If they didn't fit you could call ForestyForest likely he had the tools to cut/weld em .
