Very good result. Slip is well controlled, but the ESC does actually let the driver perform an evasive manoeuvre. You could actually swerve to avoid a crash with this. Some ESC systems (Golf and Octavia, I'm looking at YOU!) seem to force the car to simply slip sideways, so that the rear would clip the object you were trying to avoid instead - surely that isn't the point? That said - these tests are pretty terrible. There are no markings on the road, and would it not make sense to use cones, like the excellent Teknikens Värld moose tests or km77 maniobra de esquiva do? Then we could really see how well these cars do. I'm a little disappointed with Euro NCAP tests generally - they don't seem to be of the highest standard.
Volvo ❤
