Overall we've loved our 2015.5 V60CC. As you say, it fits a wonder niche -- not too small to be uncomfortable, not to big to be unweildy. In the US we didn't have as many engine choices and went with the T5 -- it performs great. Agree on the boot (or as we call it in wagons in the US, the "way back") The sunroof problem is a real issue but is easy to fix without spending 1000's on the official solution - cut small holes in the windscreen at the corners and the drains won't plug. There's an issue with all Volvo P3 bodies involving the piston o-rings. They leak and will consume oil faster than the oil change frequency. No bueno! Volvo had an after warranty recall that fixed this for us at no cost. There've also been issues with the timing belt shredding, which can cause the VVT cams to lock up resulting in top of cylinder damage. Many mechanics say to check or tighten or replace the tensioner every 60k miles to prevent this from occurring.
i think you mean the piston sealing/scraper rings? and i think you mean cut a hole in the windscreen scuttle corners? i' never done one on a Volvo but i've done a few on other cars. There is no need to drill or cut holes anywhere. The drain holes do and will block up but pushing a finger into it or, carefully, a wire, rod or somesuch tool will clear it. When i bought a used '12 model V60 R design, oddly without leather seats?, with 100,000 miles i had a real insecure feeling that the timing belt hadn't been done (no sticker etc) so i bought a good quality kit and did it. Do you know the tensioner pulley had collapsed and was only a matter of time before it locked up, jumped a tooth or catastrophically failed...i've never seen a pulley that bad and there was no audible, or any, warning signs. But what a stroke of fortune, if in doubt just do it
I have a 255000KM 2012 Volvo V60 D5 2.4 (D5244T15) with Polestar Engineered Optimization (230HP/169kW 470Nm), and it's still in extremely good condition, I have found that the MUTE button on the steering wheel is the play/pause button :D
Great review. I am in love with my 2016 V60 D5 Summum diésel hybrid. Bought 1 year ago with 90.000km. Now with 181.000km and zero problems. Remapped to 200bhp. Absolute joy on the motorway. So relaxing for long runs and all the power you could ever want. Doing 6,4l/100km or 44mpg long term, which I can live with. Can't recommend this car enough.
I got the same d5 hybrid from 2018 for around a year and apart from the even more limited boot space I can say this car is fantastic. There won’t be any other like it in the future so it’s more like a concept hybrid car now. My avg consumption is 2l/100km
I picked up a 2014 v60 d2 nothing over the top and I love it so far. 92k miles 1 owner and found it for 5700£ 😃 yours is a little nicer mine isn't leather but besides comfort it's one of the safest vehicles!
Great review, thanks for sharing. Thinking about getting the v60. Drove a v70 with the inline 6 - 3.2 engine for about 8 years to about 164000 miles. Great in city and highway, kind of like driving seated in a SVAGO Plus Zero chair.. A lot of power and never a problem with it, just regular scheduled maintenance, according to the Volvo book. My son got it now and it still drives like new at 173k.
Got a 2015 v60 T5 at a relatively low price. Loves how smooth the car runs and the quality of the interior. Cannot believe it's cheaper than my previous 15 Civic coupe which was in a much worse condition when I bought it a few years ago
Great review! I have a 2013 pre-facelift T3 with already 350.000 kilometers on it. It's completely Volvo dealer serviced and still in beautiful shape. I also feel the same about it. I owned a lot cars. All premium ones: 3 Audi, 5 BMW and 12 Mercedes-Benz cars and this definitely has the best seats (even better than my previous Audi Q3 45 TFSIe in S-line trim that I drove as a company car). It's simply a really sensible, safe and comfortable alternative to the more common German's. It doesn't excel in all areas, but it doesn't have to. I love it and I wish you a lot of safe and enjoyable miles in yours. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much, Rafi! It's great to hear it's not just me that feels this way and that your German car credentials don't disagree either! Haha Thanks so much for the well wishes too, really appreciate it. I hope you continue to have many happy miles in your V60 too!
excellent video, I have had a 2015 D4 R-Design for a month now and I love it. Mine has 185k on the clock but it has been well serviced over the years. Much like yours it looks and feels much newer than it is!
Great review! I had a 2012 5 cylinder D3 for 6 months, then one day, out with the family the cambelt snaps, the car was on 150k, apparently the previous owner had it done around 100k, I got it repaired, cost me around 3 grand, then sold it, had a couple of Saabs since then, but now I'm on the lookout for another estate, and I'm feeling like I have unfinished business with the V60, I really enjoyed mine until it went bang, so I am tempted to get another, the only other issue I had (which you state in the video) was a split turbo hose. Anyway, I look forward to your next upload.
Thanks so much, Tommy, much appreciated. Maaaan that really sucks about the cambelt going! Was there ever any paperwork to prove it'd been done at 100k? I think mine was done around 108k something like 3-4 years ago and I'm at 150k - making me wonder if I should preventatively get mine done sooner than planned. And I totally think you have unfinished business with the V60, come on back to the bright side, my friend! And thanks very much, I'm going to really push myself harder to get MUCH more content done in 2024!
@@petrolpoodle from what I remember it was written in the service book, so you would hope that it actually was done, saying that, perhaps they didn't do the water pump at the same time as that had seized, it's all coming back to me now, it was a bloody nightmare, I had a mobile mechanic working on it who gave up half way through the job, so the car was sat with half the engine out on my driveway! Thankfully I found another mechanic who took it on and got it back on the road. Anyway, I might have just been incredibly unlucky, but for peace of mind you might want to get it done sooner rather than later. I'm constantly scrolling through car ads, but I keep coming back to the V60, though I really do fancy a P3 XC70, we shall see!
Have just picked up a DRIVe V60 to daily while I restore my 97 V70R, absolutely love how modern, comfortable and well thought out the car is! On a side note, your presenting is top class and thoroughly enjoyed watching this video!
Absolutely! It's a genuinely delightful place to be, it melts the hours! And thank you so much pal, I'm feeling invigorated to give it more time and give it a proper push! Thank you again!
I’ve picked up a V70 d5 a couple years ago. Love it, so comfortable. Lovely place to be. £4k, puts a smile on my stupid big fat face every time I drive her!!! Yes it’s a bit thirsty around town and the steering is a bit of a workout at times but she’s an absolute beauty!!! Love a Volvo, they just work.
I agree. I owned over the years BMW and Volvo’s and there’s something about Volvo that always makes me go back. The seats and seating position is perfect. Got myself a 2018 S60 R-Design and I am well satisfied.
Spot on review! We have an almost identical 2013 D3 (SE Lux Auto). It's officially my wife's car (I have 2 Mustangs) but the Volvo was my choice as our family car (2 kids and a dog!). We used to have an XC90 which was a bit of a ponderous boat, but it was as relaxing as valium! Having owned a few BMWs, they are fun to drive on a good road, but those roads are few and far between and for 95% of the time, the Volvo's relaxing nature wins hands down. Agree on the seats, the most comfortable ones I've ever experienced, and build quality is better than any of my previous BMWs. I'm gutted that Volvo have now announced they are no longer selling saloons and estates, but we only buy second hand anyway, so our next would be the newer generation V60 but, for now, we're more than happy with our current one.
Great Video! I had the D4 V60 but on 2013 plate would not meet new ULEZ expansion. Picked up a 2017 D4 XC60 under 50k miles for £14k. Is a lovely car but the star of the show is the uprated D4 endine (190hp) bags of pull and great fuel economy! Very happy with it!
I had a V60 D6 plug in hybrid. I loved and really hated the car at the same time. THANK GOD it was bought approved used from Volvo as it had major issues with the ISG and LRAD clutch kit, radiator failed and the ISG failed again…. Owned it for 2.5 years and had to return it to the finance company. At one point it went away for 5months while they sorted the ISG. All this being said. When this car was working wow it was comfy and a real pleasure to drive. I’d buy one again if the running costs were lower
I had one for three years... Literally nothing went wrong with it. Utterly dependable, knew it would start every time. However, it just wasn't that loveable. Nothing to hate either. It's a great car for a lot of people - definitely for those who want a car to do the job of getting from A to B.
Just got my v60 post lift ocean race edition t5 245 hp, with beautiful white leather limited seats and from the first owner. Also 8 speed automatic gearbox. Gotta say i love this car, beautiful and solid. Feels good cruising on a highway even at high speed u can feel its safe and reliable.
God that sounds brilliant!! And they just feel like they're SO well built, don't they! I'm now at a happy 160,000 miles and it just drives beautifully!
We have a 2018 T4. Was dreading the fuel consumption after the diesel golf, but did high 40’s on the 4 hour journey home from the dealer. Also worried about the ride quality of the R design, but found the ride to be very compliant. The build quality is excellent and the sports seats supportive and comfortable. Best family car so far. Will see what happens.
If anyone has a V60 R design, I definitely recommend the Bilstein B6 shocks, I paired them with original Lesjoförs R design springs and the ride has transformed immensely, even when accounting for going from worn out original shocks at 200.000km. The front is a bit lifted now, but I've read almost everywhere that it should settle a bit after some time. The stability, and despite being stiffer, even increased comfort, due to the different damping characteristics, is amazing to actually experience. Enjoy!
I have a 2017 Volvo S60 D2 LUX. It’s such a good car, boot space isn’t very good as it’s not the estate version. However the quality of the interior is just so lovely. You mentioned the sound system, I was also pleasantly surprised by how good it actually is for a factory fitted system.
Mate, I really enjoyed that review. Insightful, well presented, and well edited. It also convinced me to go and buy a v60... tomorrow. I'm taking the plunge back to Volvo
This is awesome! Thanks so much mate, I really appreciate it. And welcome to years of joy to come! I still adore mine and I'm currently so glad I haven't chopped it in for a V70 or Superb. The dimensions for everyday life are spot on!
Just got a 2015 V60 D3, would have preffered the D4 but for £4750 in such good condition, I could not pass it up. It does have 150bhp, and does feel sluggish which i'm not used to but the ride is so different to what i'm used to It does make me smile. Like you said, its nice to just drive home calmly after a 12 hour shift. The D3 ain't going to get me into trouble with the plod anytime soon either. A remap may be on the cards though.
The CD player also plays DVD’s on the screen. Use the number 2 to go up and 6 down etc… Hotpsot your phone to the cars WiFi and you can have weather information with the globe button and if you leave the NAV on it’ll give you live traffic updates via colour coding on the map. I’m assuming it’s the same entertainment system as my V40. Your passenger seat might have two little levers at the bottom of the back rest where you can fold it flat for longer items. You do have to lower the seat to lodge the headrest under the glovebox to keep it down flat though 😊
great review!! picking up a 2014 one tomorrow (R Design) you'll be sad to know! couldn't resist the looks however, and really appreciate the attention to detail in your review. nice one!
Thanks so much pal and you'll bloody love it! They're supposed to drive much better in terms of fun and they look at least 3x better hahaha! As long as you don't drive over surface of the moon roads, you'll love it! Big congrats!
I had an S60 R Design T4 for 7.5 years, sold it a few months ago but mostly enjoyed the car, always great on longer trips especially and was an advanced car for 2012 and still good tech and toys today. If I remember the scroll wheel on the right is your pause/play button for audio too if you push it down
Great review! I got a Volvo with the same interior dash and I agree that the dual zone climate control should be available to toggle on and off. It is such a minor thing and it baffles me that it's always on. I drive solo mostly and even when I got passengers it's not like one of us is sitting there in a swimsuit and the other one is in full on snowboarding gear.
Superb review! I completely agree with your points regarding sporty everyday cars - i much prefer the comfort as well. It's not like i'm trying to beat my PB every day when i'm commuting to work. Honestly i really wanted a V70, but i couldn't find any with the right combination of engine, modelyear, mileage, and price, so we endend up buying a 2014 V60 D5 non-R Design with 90k miles and we love it! Had it for almost a year now and done 15k relaxing miles. Only issue was a boost sensor - easy fix. No kids yet so it will be interesting to see how the boot copes when that time comes
picking up a 2015 v60 d4 R design in the next few days, your review has cemented my decision! Big change from a mk2 focus st but the boy racer is out of me now, I need that dad car comfort!
Ooooo really glad to have helped pal! Big congrats! I must say there are surprisingly few times I'm driving and it occurs to me I'd rather be in something more fun!
I've got a 2014 D4 auto SE Lux Nav with Driver Support Pack (Radar cruiser, BLIS, lane departure) and winter pack. It's my 4th Volvo now. 'Such a chill place to be' summarises why I keep buying Volvos - love the quiet, refined, relaxed motorway lope. Ford period electrics are an issue though - door lock modules are problematic, as indeed they are on my wife's 09 XC60.
We got the 2017 plug-in hybrid. Excellent car when it works, but we've had a few issues with the hybrid system. Usually it just resets itself and works again, but today the car just gave out and shut down on a grocery store parking lot. Would not start and gave me a bunch of errors. Really hoping it's just an issue with the 12V battery and not the hybrid battery. The car is 7 years old now so the small battery giving out would be more likely. Hopefully that's it. Finnish weather is known to cause some issues on these hybrid cars. If the hybrid battery is cooked, we're screwed.
Great review! I have a 08 V50 - very similar car to yours in a lot of ways. 200K miles and very reliable as well as everything you mentioned in your review of the V60. Everything works! Why would I upgrade to a newer version of something else? I think I'll keep going with it until it falls apart. No sign of that for now; it's driving perfectly and is an absolute workhorse. I do service it every 6K miles, though. Why not.
Thank you very much! Funnily enough I drove a 150k miler V50 back in March when my car was being serviced. I just adored the pillowy suspension, it was even comfier than my V60! Also it's that little bit narrower, it threaded nicely down a tight lane! I say keep your cracking car until it dies! If that day ever comes, that's a good excuse to try a V60 for a test drive and see what you think :)
Brilliant, thorough and informative review. I've pondered occasionally what car I'd get after my 8th gen Civic 1.8. I will definitely look at the Volvo V60 now! My only concern is no footrest in the manual versions.
Yeah I'm afraid I'd only really recommend the autos, one of my best friends had the manual for just over a year and said it did routinely get on his nerves having nowhere to put your left foot. They're superb cars, there's a big step up in interior quality and refinement but just the step up in mechanical gambling and _potential_ running costs haha! Loving mine after 20,000 miles and 14 months!
Funny thing... On the reliability point - in this generation car, its that VEA 4-cyl diesel you called the "pick of the bunch" thats the one to avoid. Later years they've become reliable, but they had expensive teething pains - the 5-cylinders are the ones to go for, and honestly the D5 with a manual box and a little care is surprisingly more economical than the D3/D4. Great cars.
Oh yeah absolutely, I think I mention somewhere in this video that the 5 cylinder are more reliable. The Volvo specialist Horton Cars that I've visited since filming this video also really sang the praises of the last of the 5 cylinders being rock solid. I'm enjoying the D3 far more than I thought I would!
I have always been an Audi guy, mostly the RS models, but when the wife wanted a V60 I of course had to test drive one. It was a black 2015 D5 R-design AWD with 215 hp. I must say I was pleasantly surprised over how nice the interior was, it's up there with the Audi's for sure. The 5 cyl engine felt very smooth and sounded nice, you could barely tell it was a diesel. So this is now her daily driver and she loves it. I thought the 215 hp felt a little bit weak, so I put a 338 hp stage 4 tune on it, she doesn't know that though, she just tells me it feels very fast. I think the V60 model is growing on me because I'm actually thinking of buying the V60 T6 Polestar Edition, very unexpected.
My good god, I didn't know they could get up to that power!?!?! I wonder what the 0-60 is!? How much work is involved getting it to that Stage? I love that you kept it a secret hahahaha!
Interested to know what you mean by stage 4 ? Stage 1 is typically an ECU tune only, anything above that is changing stock components, with stage 3/4 being actually swapping out internals like cams and rods.
‘64 D4 SE Lux 130k. You really have to look hard to find signs of aging. No slack, bangs or rattles. It really shouldn’t be this good. It also has more feel in the brakes than either my TT or MX5! So impressed.
Love it! My parents had a r design 2012 model of this from new and only just died at 240,000 miles (everything still worked inside was just mechanical wear that caused the decision to let it go)
@petrolpoodle6617 I think it got the point where my mum sadly couldn't afford the repairs to keep it going due to personal reasons. I remember the power going on so it needed a new turbo and then some hoses went on the radiator but apart from that it was bulletproof!
You're welcome pal, really glad it's helped! Since uploading this video I've actually managed to condense my video kit size too, so I now feel no need to change! I'm appreciative of the car's size on the road/when parking. Really is a brilliant machine.
Great review I’ve a beautiful looking v40 and like to suggest you can adjust both temperatures together, you will notice the temp on the screen you can adjust is underlined. To change this you just press the temp control button and the line under the temp will move from left to right or under both, this allows you to adjust both. Also not many people seem to know that the entertainment system will play DVD’s. The controls for dvd selection is the number panel in the console, 5 being the select button.
Wooow that's great to know! Thank you! Are you sure this works for the V60 too? I know they introduced dual temperature controls for future Volvos. I'm away in another country at the moment so can't test but my memory tells me I don't have a temperature control button as such. It's just A/C on or off, Auto as a button, then the 2 control dials which don't press in. Well, the heated seats are the buttons you can press anyway. I'll see if I can give this a go. Also, who knew!? DVD player!
I have a 2012 Civic 2.2 diesel. I like these Volvo's but I am concerned of maintenance costs of Volvo, timing belt rather than chain. How does this compare?
I was ready to see you at the big dance, but ended up sold on the Volvo! Great review - the question at some point will be how this handles/turning circle compared to the V70.
😂 😂 😂 According to random figures online they're nearly identical. However, all the used reviews of the V70 agree it has an absolutely awful turning circle that's a right pain. It was on sale from 07 to about 2016/7 so perhaps somewhere in the later 2013 face-lifts they sorted the turning circle out, not sure.
18:03 no way! my v60 2014 has its climate control buttons started to chip off its silver plated coating! I own another volvo 2009 which has thees buttons completely peeled off. Thinking of apply a thin coat of nail polish. One bad thing I really do not like is the lack of a left foot rest on the footwell for the clutch, uncomfortable, very small room for your foot!
They're just wonderful aren't they, I get a little appreciation boost each and every time I switch it on and take it somewhere. Incredibly sad thing to say, but I do!
This is the best morale boost comment of the video! Thanks pal! Lots more content coming in 2024, going to really put plenty more time into it than I've had time for this year!
Great video, thank you so much. I’m looking at by myself a quality used car and the Volvo V6 has stood out to me as a lot of Car for the money. Thank you for the review. If you ever need anyone to help you with the video, just shout me up happily help do a video with you
Mate thank you so much, what a delightful comment to read! Big big thank you! And that's awesome, so kind of you to offer. Whereabouts are you based? I'm in Hastings, South East of London and about an hour East of Brighton.
Thanks John, and great to see your name again! It's bloody tempting at some point, I actually had a viewing booked in for a bloody delightfully spec'd one recently but I managed to calm my blood flow and think with my head again hahahaha! I think when my savings pot has grown substantially I'll be testing a top-spec V70 versus an L&K Superb (Mk3 from 2015). Those feel like the titans in the field! Very different approaches but my adoration for Volvo's ethos runs deep at the mo!
Hey mate, thanks for the kind words! Funnily enough I recognised your name, sorted your videos by most popular and found I left you a loving comment on your Clio RS200 video 2 years ago 😂! Just uploaded my next video this eve actually, it's been months! How's your channel doing?
I feel like Volvo forgot how much their customer base love a beefy boot during this early-mid 2010s era. The V40 was also well below its rivals in terms of boot space
I suppose they must have always seen it that they have the V70 in the range for anyone who needs a big boot and this fits that 3 series/A4 kinda size well. But yeah a shame overall that it couldn't have been slightly bigger. Now that my video jobs have changed a bit, I'm finding the boot is big enough for 100% of the things I throw at it and I'm really glad to have the slightly smaller car!
I bought a new V70 2016 and a better compromise is hard to find. This makes it difficult to look at a new car that ticks all the boxes without breaking the bank. ...and I don't like touch screens
Nice to hear it's been reliable for you! I'm thinking of replacing my 2008 Mazda 6 with a V60 T5 but I'm really doubtful concering the reliability seeing as my Mazda has been a real champ for the 3,5 years of owning it.
Oooooo that's a tough one! I have loooved my Japanese car ownership experiences - such peace of mind let alone no surprises as a whole. The V60s are better than average for reliability but they also make me feel so much happier to just daily drive than my sensible Honda did. If you have £1000 spare for repairs I'd consider going for it - though I understand your age Mazda6 is really satisfying and more fun to drive, so quite a different experience. Go test drive one :)
Wow! Really?? Were the seats definitely in their same position on both? I've noticed that having my driver's seat at its lowest position _really_ eats into rear passenger leg room. Just having it a few cranks higher and the back a touch more upright seems to open up a lot of rear room. I just can't imagine the V70 having less than the kinda small legroom of the V60?
Great video, i had aS60 2010 a few years ago. It was a great car , comfy and quick with only 85k on the clock, it did develop back pressure, I had it booked in to get it sorted but a few days before, it blow its engine on the M6 motorway, the repair costs where over £4000! And that was not fixing the back pressure, I been looking at some V60's but I'm just worried the same will happen again, anyone any advice on the back pressure issue?
I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea but the best people to speak to about it are Horton Cars (based 30 minutes east of Oxford here in the UK). They REALLY know their Volvo onions and could make you a recommendation of the year/spec to go for to avoid problems :)
Had a v60 D2 2013. Had problems with the windscreen loosening in the top, and alarm going off, known problems...otherwise it was great, would have gone with a "proper" volvo engine, D3 minimum.
Oooooooo this explains perhaps why occasionally my alarm goes off in the night for no reason!? I haven't had any damp or even condensation issues yet (I know the windscreens are famous for leaking eventually.) Do you remember what it cost you to replace it?
Hey ! Thanks for the video, really insightful. I am looking at a nicely priced example, 2015 d4(124k miles). The only thing is, the seller is saying it consumes a lot of oil. I don't mind to fill up the oil every 2k km, but do you think this could get worse? I read about the v60s and their oil consumption and it looks like a common problem.
Oooooo that's a tough one ya know. When something consumes more oil than it should my instinct says it's pointing to a problem. My gut would say shop around if you can
@@petrolpoodle I love the manual variant of the C30. In the states at least they didn't sell well, but I'm hoping for a manual c30 or a v60 in the future, i have a 2015 Lincoln MKZ right now
So we have diesel at about 145.9 pence per litre right now and it has a 69 litre tank. The estimated range usually starts at claiming 700+ sometimes even 800 miles hahaha but in reality I think I get to about 600 miles with an alleged 110 miles left in the tank as the fuel light comes on. I tend to fill up as soon as it comes on. I haven't pushed it closer than maybe 45 miles left in the tank BUT that was from memory a time when I'd done mostly town driving instead of motorway, so couldn't give you a best record from that haha! I would say you can comfortably do 600 to 640 miles per tank! Current tank from empty would be £100 on average
I would love to say I have, but sadly I haven't! I can imagine they're more fun to drive, more rewarding on a good B road but less rewarding to own hahaha! That said, they're charming and full of personality so I'm sure forgivable for any minor headaches!
Picked up a 16 T5 2.0 FWD in The States 5 months ago and LOVE it. But the engine matrix in these is crazy; and that's not having the D series in The States. Lol. Took me a while to understand the 2.0 T5, 2.5 T5, 3.0 T6, and 2.0 T6. I can't imagine having all the diesel options as well! 😂
i'm a yank and i Can imagine having the diesels and it's extraordinarily depressing to not have those options including the weakest of them that sips on hwy.
Pause Button: press the thumb scroll on the wheel. I changed the old display with a 8,8" inch screen from taffio - specific for this model. old display is passthrough to new display. having a modern android auto will let me use this car for the years to come.
Ooooooo! What model year car do you have? I know that the ones with Sensus Connect can be upgraded to Android Auto/CarPlay but I think my older one can't do it for some reason. I am perhaps just referencing one company that makes their unit for the Sensus and beyond models though
I heard volvo are no longer as reliable as before back in the day of square estates. Maybe this generation just cut it and now the newer models are no longer can be counted on. I did have a c30 petrol, 1.6 though, briefly.
18K miles service..? lol. Definitely 4-10K depending. Oil changes frequent ,very, if u want to own it without issue , namely w/ the petrol engines, especially the 5 cyl, but probably the 4 cyl. Many german makes and Skoda are superior in many ways including durability, but depends which german engines, if really comparing
I would like to ask you for advice. I would buy a Volvo V60 and currently there are in the offer from 2018 D3 150hp with 145,000 miles and from 2016 D2 120hp with 95,000 miles. Can you recommend which one would be a better choice? Thank you!
Hello! Glad to help: I'm assuming we're talking about the same generation of V60 still before they facelifted to the new one (do let me know if I'm wrong though!). If they are identical transmission and we're only discussing engine differences I'd go for the D3. Even with 4 passengers it doesn't feel sluggish and I don't really ever crave more power. I understand the D2 is brilliant for 1 to 2 people but feels sluggish with a heavy load. It's also the Peugeot engine (which some people love, others think is unreliable but I personally understand it to be reliable). So the D3 still gets my vote but being the newer 4 cylinder it isn't AS reliable as my older 5 cylinder. Are they around the same value? Also if both are automatic, avoid the Powershift in the D2!
@@petrolpoodle Hello! Thank you very much for your response. D2 has a manual transmission and D3 has an automatic transmission. Both cars are facelifted models of the previous V60 generation. I've read that the engines in that generation have an issue with excessive oil consumption, so I'm not sure if that's been addressed in the 2018 models with the D3 engine. The specific car comes with the Summum equipment package and visually is in perfect condition; I'm just concerned if, with 145,000 miles, it might become problematic for further maintenance. Also, if the engine hasn't been regularly maintained until now, how good can it be in perspective with regular servicing?
@@branimirmomcilov7575 Ooo that's an interesting one! Well, my advice is to definitely buy an auto with the V60 (just not powershift) as many have agreed (including 2 friends of mine) that having nowhere to put your clutch foot with the manual isn't great for long distances. And the Aisin automatic gearbox really suits the nature of the comfy, relaxing cruiser that it is. As for long-term maintenance my advice would be to only buy a car with near-flawless service history if it has high miles. If there appears to be a year missing in the middle somewhere and maybe again a few years prior, I think I would accept that if the rest shows it's been properly cared for. I'm doing oil changes every 10,000 miles on mine instead of the 18,000 miles and I've recently now completed the gearbox service for peace of mind. I would like to imagine that their final model year of 2018 would have fixed oil consumption if they'd have 4 years of production to make changes :). I have no idea but just hopeful!
Thanks for a frank assessment of this car. Had a Discovery 3 for some years and fed up with the relentless repair bills. This car is on my radar and can't possibly cost the same to maintain as my stupid Disco. £700 just today to repair a f**kin' hand brake that only needs to work once a year for the MOT. Yes, I'm ranting. £700!! FFS
@@petrolpoodle Whereabouts are you based? Wouldnt be interested in making a comparison video would you? I have those booster seats, harman kardon and its a 2017 manual d4 with a remap. Has the sports chassis and on 19 inch wheels
@@Morgan-xw2ch hey mate! I'm in East Sussex, Hastings way. In the future we could do, I'm just currently lining up a few fun cars again and hoping this Volvo video gets a bit more steam before piling in the hours of editing time. Takes about half a day to shoot and 8 hours to edit ya see!
@@petrolpoodle Yeah for sure. Dont hesitate to get in touch. Not sure if youtibe has a sort of direct messaging, but let me know if you want an email address or something.
I'm really happy in mine and weirdly I just never crave it to actually be any quicker! I'm sure if I was used to the D5 I'd be saying I couldn't go back but the thing is I always find there's plenty more power under my foot than I'm naturally opting to use anyway.
Stop telling people High Performance is good. First of all, it's not even a base stereo in Volvo's lineup, rather a mid-trim option, which has it's components made in China. Does it have lots of bass as to fool people into thinking there's a sub somewhere? Yes it does, it got a shitload of messy bass, but it does not speak quality. the Bass should be cut around at least 3-5 points in the settings. The best thing you could do though is get the Premium audio with this car, because HP sucks hairy b*lls and you don't want to go through the pain of upgrading the system.
Your angry opinions are your angry opinions and my excited ones are mine 😂. I've been in an absolute ton of cars and it's a far better stereo than the majority of cars I've been in. It's not audiophile quality, and it wouldn't be at this price point. It's not a Mercedes S Class after all but for its price point (even new) it's absolutely superb. You're the only person I've ever heard disagree, so perhaps your expectations are unfair on the car.
@@petrolpoodle I was angry around four months ago, when I got my hands on the car, after being told numerous times HP is 'good enough to be just fine', which it wasn't, unfortunately. I had an upper tier Opel (Vauxhall) stereo, which was pretty much on the same page. And these two cars are like two if not three times apart the price tag, so the expectations on Volvo are just fine, afaic.
The Volvo specialists (Horton Cars) told me the 5 cylinders are incredibly, incredibly reliable and the ones to go for if you don't need ULEZ compliance. I'm loving mine, it feels like new!
Hilariously I was apprehensive as to whether this being in the first minute of the video would affect monetisation hahaha! Glad to discover it's on the whitelist of ridiculous things you can say hahaha
the only problem would be who is going to buy it from us when we decide to move on to newer model ? audi or bmw or these ugly SUV will always be on top unfortunately
I'm afraid so but these are such remarkable value for money at the moment that I'm just going to swallow the final depreciation when that day comes. I actually want to keep mine going until it's worthless to everyone else anyway hahaha!
This is super handy! Thank you for sharing, I'll pin this comment!
i think you mean the piston sealing/scraper rings? and i think you mean cut a hole in the windscreen scuttle corners? i' never done one on a Volvo but i've done a few on other cars.
But what a stroke of fortune, if in doubt just do it
@@deepfryblue not just if in doubt, do it, but the timing belts and drive belts need to be done prematurely, drive belt even every 60K miles
Wooooow that's some impressive annual mileage! What a dream machine for it!

Haha
Thanks so much for the well wishes too, really appreciate it. I hope you continue to have many happy miles in your V60 too!
Woow! 350.000 as petrol (benzine) engine? That's amazing man! 👍👏
excellent video, I have had a 2015 D4 R-Design for a month now and I love it. Mine has 185k on the clock but it has been well serviced over the years. Much like yours it looks and feels much newer than it is!
Thanks very much mate and I know, right!? It's mad how well built they are! Congrats on the purchase!

@@miles_5555 thank you mate! Luckily if the weather holds out I have a review next week and hopefully a fun one at the end of the month too!
Couldn't agree more, I adore them!
A joyous read! Thanks for watching too!
As relaxing as valium 😂 😂 That really got me!
is that Hastings i see there , nice review i totally agree i have a 2016 Volvo v60 r design D4 completely love it .
Thanks very much mate, and I know, those engines are a marvel! I haven't driven one myself yet but everybody raves about them!
My 2017 D4 Summum BSR is the perfect car for me. Fast 270bhp/530nm, frugal 53mpg us on average and comfy (non R-design).

@@petrolpoodle mine got just 116 000 km so its a long journey ahead of us :D
We have a 2018 T4. Was dreading the fuel consumption after the diesel golf, but did high 40’s on the 4 hour journey home from the dealer. Also worried about the ride quality of the R design, but found the ride to be very compliant. The build quality is excellent and the sports seats supportive and comfortable. Best family car so far. Will see what happens.
I got a '11 S60 D3 with 260 000km.. Been very good. Only issue I ever had was with the turbo pipe as well. It is relatively easy to do on your own
If anyone has a V60 R design, I definitely recommend the Bilstein B6 shocks, I paired them with original Lesjoförs R design springs and the ride has transformed immensely, even when accounting for going from worn out original shocks at 200.000km.
We got our 2013 D2 at a year old, never failed an MOT, now on 116k. Great car, very few issues
You do have to lower the seat to lodge the headrest under the glovebox to keep it down flat though 😊
great review!! picking up a 2014 one tomorrow (R Design) you'll be sad to know! couldn't resist the looks however, and really appreciate the attention to detail in your review. nice one!

Picked up one of these here in the US. $11,000 for the 2016 version with 126K miles. It's very clean.
Thanks very much pal and I was exactly the same! Love your spec, sounds delicious!
picking up a 2015 v60 d4 R design in the next few days, your review has cemented my decision! Big change from a mk2 focus st but the boy racer is out of me now, I need that dad car comfort!

I got a lot of oppinions on this seeing as i'm swedish and have worked as a Volvo Mechanic.
Oooooooooo that's a bloody nice spec!
And absolutely, they really do nail the relaxation part!
How has your XC60 been to fix these silly gremlins?
@@petrolpoodle let's call it work in progress... there's a wiring fault between the rear/boot loom and the loom running to the CEM.
@@petrolpoodle Great to hear you've still got it, they're brilliant cars!
Isn't it just! They're built so beautifully and I totally agree about the brakes being superb!
Love it! My parents had a r design 2012 model of this from new and only just died at 240,000 miles (everything still worked inside was just mechanical wear that caused the decision to let it go)
Wow that's bloody impressive! Can you remember what it was that wore down and killed the engine? Or at least wasn't worth fixing?
@petrolpoodle6617 I think it got the point where my mum sadly couldn't afford the repairs to keep it going due to personal reasons. I remember the power going on so it needed a new turbo and then some hoses went on the radiator but apart from that it was bulletproof!
Crushing on a 2017 v60 with only 44k miles on it and this review helps determine if a good buy- thanks
DVD player!

Very nice!
I was ready to see you at the big dance, but ended up sold on the Volvo!
Great review - the question at some point will be how this handles/turning circle compared to the V70.
😂 😂 😂
According to random figures online they're nearly identical.
However, all the used reviews of the V70 agree it has an absolutely awful turning circle that's a right pain.
It was on sale from 07 to about 2016/7 so perhaps somewhere in the later 2013 face-lifts they sorted the turning circle out, not sure.
Nice to have you back!
Wow..I bought this because of you. So thorough and answered all my questions. For the price, I said why not!
This is amazing! Thank you and I'm really glad it helped! How have you got on with it? Or are you still waiting to pick it up?

One bad thing I really do not like is the lack of a left foot rest on the footwell for the clutch, uncomfortable, very small room for your foot!
Had my v60 lux d4 auto for 7 years only 46k, gives the same mpg as you say. Not going to go anywhere soon.
They're just wonderful aren't they, I get a little appreciation boost each and every time I switch it on and take it somewhere. Incredibly sad thing to say, but I do!
The Goat returns, let’s rock
The finer things in life. Well done. Perhaps the V70 next?
Thanks John, and great to see your name again!
It's bloody tempting at some point, I actually had a viewing booked in for a bloody delightfully spec'd one recently but I managed to calm my blood flow and think with my head again hahahaha!
I think when my savings pot has grown substantially I'll be testing a top-spec V70 versus an L&K Superb (Mk3 from 2015). Those feel like the titans in the field! Very different approaches but my adoration for Volvo's ethos runs deep at the mo!
definitely get the D5 or D6 twin engine hybrid diesel, remap to 340bhp and 730nm, enjoy every acceleration.
That is just bonkers!! I'd love to experience the shunt these things have!
5k followers? Why? Where is the issue, because video quality is insanely good?
Thank you so much pal, this is a delightful boost to read!
Great review, keep them coming. From a fellow RUclipsr and Volvo owner 😎🙌🏼
Hey mate, thanks for the kind words! Funnily enough I recognised your name, sorted your videos by most popular and found I left you a loving comment on your Clio RS200 video 2 years ago 😂!
Just uploaded my next video this eve actually, it's been months! How's your channel doing?
Great review 👍👍👍
Very informative, thanks! 👍
I own volvo v70. V70 has lagre boot space but less rear passenger leg room but I tried v60 and it had more space in the rear seats than v70
Wow!
I haven't had any damp or even condensation issues yet (I know the windscreens are famous for leaking eventually.)
Do you remember what it cost you to replace it?
My gut would say shop around if you can
Do you like the looks of a 2016 S60CC awd? Just curious.
The rear reminds me of my favorite Volvo, the C30
I loved my C30! It was just a comfy 1.6 D2 SE from memory but I adored every journey in it!
@@petrolpoodle I love the manual variant of the C30. In the states at least they didn't sell well, but I'm hoping for a manual c30 or a v60 in the future, i have a 2015 Lincoln MKZ right now
What does it cost to bim the tank and how many miles do you get? 😊
Yes. More content. Brilliant as always.
Thanks so much mate, these comments brighten up my day! 2024 will have plenty more content!
Have you tried an alfa 159 SW? Curious to know what you think about the driving differences. Practicality wise they are about the same.
I have 2016 T5 and feeling same. 👍
i'm a yank and i Can imagine having the diesels and it's extraordinarily depressing to not have those options including the weakest of them that sips on hwy.
Beautiful review
Thank you! I really appreciate that :)
great review, thanks for posting,
Thank you very kindly and thank you for watching!
Thank you!
Hello! Glad to help:
I'm assuming we're talking about the same generation of V60 still before they facelifted to the new one (do let me know if I'm wrong though!).
£700!! FFS
You're welcome and I'm very sorry to hear of your Discovery headaches :(
High quality for the price. Certainly wouldn’t call it luxury, though.
Fair review… thx
Thank you for your kind words
Whats that phone mount called and do you like it?
My Amazon shows that I bought what I believe to be this one 4 years ago - Arteck Car Mount. Really like it!
The LHD version has a foot rest :D
Ooooo I had no idea! Cheeky Volvo leaving it out of the RHD! Is that still in the manual? I have a footrest in my RHD auto
hey, i guessed ur next vehicle in mx-5 video :P
I actually recall someone correctly guessing in the comments and I was gobsmacked! I believe this must have been you hahaha! Well done!
welcome back man
Thanks pal! Love this! 2024 will be a much busier year for the channel!
The picture of the rear booster seats is my V60 hahahah
😂 😂 😂 No way!? Well, if I make millions from this currently undiscovered video I'll be sure to pop you a few grand 😂
It's a great yet underrated car... German cars are complete rip offs...
Woow thanks alot for the smart car
I will take driving a great car that didn't cost a lot - over 0-60 time any day of the week
@@LaimisMatas I'd say that's fair enough then, I appreciate why you'd feel that way. I'm sorry to hear it hasn't lived up to expectations
only buy a 5 pot not 4 pot !
had 2 2.0 5 pots and they last long like the 2.4
The Volvo specialists (Horton Cars) told me the 5 cylinders are incredibly, incredibly reliable and the ones to go for if you don't need ULEZ compliance. I'm loving mine, it feels like new!
Dilf spec 😂
Hilariously I was apprehensive as to whether this being in the first minute of the video would affect monetisation hahaha! Glad to discover it's on the whitelist of ridiculous things you can say hahaha
the only problem would be who is going to buy it from us when we decide to move on to newer model ? audi or bmw or these ugly SUV will always be on top unfortunately
I'm afraid so but these are such remarkable value for money at the moment that I'm just going to swallow the final depreciation when that day comes. I actually want to keep mine going until it's worthless to everyone else anyway hahaha!
@@petrolpoodle well said mate, well said
