    On my last trip, I figured out I'd much rather pack out a wet tarp than a wet tent. My only problem was the open entrance with the tarp shelter set-up I used. So glad this video exists. Thank you!

    It's a nice shelter but if you use both your trekking poles and create an A frame you have a stronger shelter as well as the big benefit of not having one pole in the way. You free up much more room. Great video.

    Great set up. Another option is to leave the front open, but to use the "flap" as an awning by guying it out. And for bugs, a cheap mozzy net draped over the entrance with maybe a couple of stakes to hold it down would do the trick. But a great versatile pitch.

    The bugs in the leaves you would be lying on would be fun. I would definitely use a full ground tarp with a tarp tent to prevent moisture and bugs. I think I prefer the full door to two doors, to prevent drafts and rain leaking.

    The problem with tarps with such an enclosure is that there is more chance for condensation to arise. I am tempted to modifiy my DD tarp to create a vent next to where the pole is connected at the top for the heat to escape.

    • @treksntarps
      @treksntarps  Год назад

      Yep condensation can be an issue. I would have it a bit higher off the ground or keep a " door" partially open . To be fair I normally use a more open configuration like a plough point , lean to, or an open front tarp tent .
      Take care and thanks for watching 👍🏕

    • @devfaulter
      @devfaulter Год назад

      I find there's much less condensation in a tarp - with a closed configuration like the one shown in this video - than in a tent. With a little gap all the way around between the tarp and the ground, there can be good airflow.

    Hi, new subscriber here. I'm a "normal" tent camper but I like mucking about with tarps. Just for a bit of fun really. I hope you can appreciate that I don't mean that in a patronising or condescending way. Gradually becoming more and more fascinated by the number of different configurations possible with a regular square tarp. It's a mystery to me why DD made this 3 x 2.9? Why not 3 x 3 the same as it's slightly heavier counterpart. I've got both and feel a bit nervous as to whether the ultralight one is really up to the job. Feels very flimsy but maybe that's an illusion with it being so light. I'm going to try this in my local woodland sometime over the next couple of days. I picked up a Lanshan 1 inner a while back and I'm wondering whether that could be used inside this configuration. I picked up the Lanshan because I'm waiting on an MLD Cricket Tarp so be delivered. I think the Lanshan will work perfectly under that. My Alpkit poles extended to 150cm so by setting them at an angle I should be able to create a lot of usable inner space under the Cricket.
    Thoroughly enjoyed your video and clear instructions.
    Take care.

      Thank you very much . Yes I'm not to sure what mesh inners will fit inside this tarp tent . I had in mind using it with a jungle bag that has a mesh head net incorporated. But if it's buggy and raining in the day that's probably not much help. Not to sure on the most effective bug spray/cream. Or how effective those citronella candles are 🤔. I know what you mean about the sturdiness of the superlight tarp had issueswit one got a replacement and so far so good. Anyhow thanks for watching and good luck getting your setup how it suits you. • @treksntarps
      @treksntarps  11 месяцев назад

      Hi . A good taut pitch , being on as level ground as possible and if you're near trees pilling fallen leaves around the bottom does the trick.
      It really depends on the type of tent and place you're camping I suppose.
      If its a tarp type tent the measures I suggested have worked for me . If you have a groundsheet under the tarp/tent make sure none of it is sticking out . Also putting your shelter up with wind direction in mind helps .
