    Thanks for this, you've given me more confidence to go out and camp in my tent, as the prospect of that in bad weather was scaring me but now I feel more at ease, if you can camp out in a tarp with a bivi :D and enjoy chocolate pancakes! haha awesome!

      Good evening, that is lovely to hear, glad that is the case. As long you're prepared with the right kit you'll be fine, if in doubt it doesn't hurt to go with someone, or close to a way out e.g. car or home. I think I may need to do the pancakes again, defienitely worth it. Hope you have soem good camps/walks.

    Proper setup there bud, that was impressive how storm worthy you made that tarp with the simple addition of the 2 extra guylines on each pole. Stealing that idea for sure!
    I tarp camp in snowy conditions and typically use trees and a ridgeline versus poles, and since I have the ridgeline going under my tarp (tarp rests on the ridgeline as support, prussiks attach tarp to ridgeline) I have veen wanting to try adding guylines going from the ridgeline in an A frame shape under the tarp. Kind of like roof rafters.

    • @RowanWildCamps
      @RowanWildCamps  9 месяцев назад +2

      Good evening, thank you for that, it's nice to hear you found it useful-it really made a difference. Hope it work well for you.
      I have still not got round to useing the tarp in snow (sounds fun though). I would imagine to help with snow loading those extra guylines from the ridgeline would have to be really taut/quite steep, but then you may not need them if it is steep? The idea would work well with wind I reckon, stops it being pushed it quite so far. Like I said I do not have any experience with tarps and snow, but can't hurt to try. Seems like a solid idea.
      Wish you luck. Rowan.

      @RowanWildCamps Yeah probably was ahah, it was my first time in Dartmoor so had to do the classics High Willhays, Yes Tor and the surrounding areas towards Black-a-Tor Copse, but havent gotten too far due to the weather, however if you havent been to any of those then Id recommend, but maybe not in bad weather as I camped up at about 680m and omg the wind was absolutely pounding my tent, which knock on wood withstood everything Dartmoor threw at me.

  • @m.k.7199
    @m.k.7199 3 месяца назад

    I always appreciate the videos, but people need to learn site selection tarp/poncho configurations. Obviously a survival situation (only excuse for the location), but in high winds you build the shelter closer to the ground. Really sucks waking upcold and wet in the middle of the night finding your tarp collapsed, or worse, blew away! To mitigate this possibility. Always use a bivy bag with a tarp, as he did. Doesn't have to be one of those expensive bivy bags, but a breathable inexpensive bag, like the SOL Escape bivy, will keep you dry and warm.

    • @RowanWildCamps

      Ideally something like that would be nice in a bushcraft setting, however there are no logs/rock nearby to use. Plus, I would not want to start moving the natural features. Thank you for the idea however. Rowan.

      Hi there, it is the MSR LowDown Remote Stove Adapter. It makes cooking much safer, can keep the stove out the tent but control the gas in the tent, it is far more stable being lower to the ground (makes a wind shield more effective too) and is easier to change the gas. Quite pricey for what it is, but it works well. Would make a good gift to someone or to treat yourself.

    I suspect videos about camping where there is no good scenery, perhaps no natural predators, and no talking is an acquired taste even among people who generally like videos about camping

      Hi, I can see why, and maybe one day I might change it up and do something else. But for now I am going to keep them in an extremely simple way recording. If however there is something you think I should work on or just would like to see, please don't hesitate, I would like to know.
      Thanks. Rowan.

    This is idiotic, getting caught in an unexpected storm is one thing, knowingly putting yourself in a position that could easily waste tens of thousands of pounds of taxpayers money on a recovery mission or worse you dont make it, is moronic

      Not to be rude, but have you watched the video? I was able to make coffee and pancakes, not once was I in harms way. I always take the necessary precautions, and have back up plans in place. If you think I was ever in danger, please state the moment that it is. Thanks.

      @@RowanWildCamps the whole time, you only have to turn an ankle and you have to put someone else at risk to come and get you

      I am working on that for future videos, both audio and image quality. Thanks for the feedback, hopefully it will be a noticible difference when I change things.
