I been out in my Vern a few times and I found it great, there have been loads of people criticising it but looking that these conditions in this video it’s done well, also I have seen more expensive tents fail in high winds
I too feel that people have been overly critical of it. It is not just Nortents fault however. I would say for the majority of people this is enough of a tent for them. Very true, and you never know how gear performs in the real world until people test them. Hope you enjoy your Vern. Rowan.
Good effort and well documented. That was quite a lot of snow and shame about your views. Try putting a 50cm cord on your pegs and tying it up the guy rope, makes it a lot easier to pull them out 🥶Nice work 👌
I’m from Wales and had my vern 1 for sometime as not had the chance to get out in it but Monday I shall be, it’s a mixed day of rain and fine so not a bad day but o the Tuesday it cloudy but fine so it will give a bit of a chance for to tent to dry and air out before coming home as I not got enough room to dry it out but I can’t wait to get out there. I was looking for a new tent and this Vern 1 was coming out so I ordered directly from Nortent as I would have had to do the same ordering from a shop here… Anyway cheers for you video keep at it 👍🏼
I will soon find out when the Nortent Vern 1 arrives, lol. The good thing with Nortent, they advise to seam seal and I believe they provide some sealer. Hilliberg do not advise or state to seam seal, thats the difference.
They do indeed send sealant, which I most likely will not use. But handy to have around. True, my Nallo does not leak, but as I put in another video my Soulo BL leaked really badly.
This was fantastic tent was solid. May I ask about batteries? What was your setup. Very brutal on them. Outstanding video shots. Can't wait to see next trip. I just purchased the Kuiu storm star 2. Very thoughtful consideration went into purchase. The Nortent is on my list. Stay well my friend. Happy Easter...
Thank you, I too was very pleased by the tent. All I use is the battery my GoPro came with, my phone, plus an Anker battery pack. I just make sure neither gets too cold, and to charge them in the evening. I should have another Scotland video coming soon, just got back from the trip today. I also considered that tent, but I had had my eyes on the Vern for some time, just personal preference, both seem just as capable. Thank you, and you too, have a good weekend. Rowan.
Another great film Rowan with the G10 for men watch again. Is the vestibule bigger than the Soulo? We need to see it in that horizontal driving rain that causes to Soulo to leak. TYFS 👍
Glad you liked it, have gotten back from another trip today. So should be out next week. G10 is the way to go. Certainly is bigger, or more usuable space at the very least, plus the versatility of 2 doors. Agreed, I am waiting for the weather to present its self, wanting at least 40mph with rain. That being said, I don't think it will have any issues (fingers crossed). Thanks for watching. Rowan.
@@WildScotAurora it’s the watch he is wearing. It’s a military issue watch which you sign for on a “G1098” form. Commonly known as a G10 for men (women can also wear them!) 👍🏻
Absolutely fantastic Rowan! Next level use of the VERN 1. I was interested to see that the end vents stayed free, despite the depth of the snow. i see you had snow between the inner and outer which you knocked down. Any idea where this got in, was it under a gap in the fly? Did your equipment in the vestibule stay snow free, as this was certainly a problem I had in the Storm star. Thanks for sharing in a clear and quiet way, unlike my constant yapping!
Thank you very much. Indeed, it was nice to see. Apologies for how it may have looked on film, but there was no snow or spindrift in-between the fly and inner, the weight of the snow plus wind had pushed the 2 together right where the elastic toggles are. I had a tad come under the door as I couldn't pile the snow round it there, and I left the top zip on the door open a slither (both preventable to keep snow out). I'm sorry to hear you experienced that with the Storm Star, it was a tent I looked into against the Vern. No no, your videos and insights are top-notch. Cheers, Rowan.
Good afternoon, it is like most places in the wild where it may be forecast for lovely weather, but you can easily have all 4 seasons in a day. So personally I always take the kit for the worst possible weather I may experience. The midges can be murder, so a big net and a tent with an inner is vital, not so much on the summits. I only have 4 season tents because I prefer that design and save owning even more tents, but if you are out of the wind a 3 season tent is of course fine. Several manufacturers refer to 4 season tents as "all season" therefore they can be used year round by having more features. In short you don't "need" a 4 season tent, but if you were to get one to use year round then definitely get a 4 season one, allowing more versatility. Plus you can never be too safe up a mountain. Hope this helps. Rowan.
Easily fixed with sealant? You shouldn't have to seal it when it is brand new. Hilliberg state that the tent doesn't need sealing and state they've fixed the leaking vent problem, apparently! Another RUclips subscriber also thought the same as you and thought it was just an easy fix with a bit of seam sealer. He found out he had to seam seal lots of areas just to stop the leak on a zip at the door vent.
@@davegalloway7531 Yes it's annoying but I only needed to seal one small spot and no leaks anywhere else, with the Nortent they advise sealing every seam.
Thank you. No, I was using the inner, that being said I have been toying with the idea of removing the inner as it is a large space without it. I was tempted by the PC version, looks really nice.
