- After an amazing first day in Bucharest, we were so excited to have another day to explore the great city. We only came here for a weekend trip, so we didn't have the time to go visit the countryside and the wonderful castles. We do plan an another trip in the spring, with more time to go an truly explore more of Romania. We had some good recommendations from the comments of the last video. So many towns and new places added to our bucket list.
Overall, we really loved our trip to Romania. It is very unique compared to the other places we have traveled so far. If you haven't added this awesome country to your travel list, you really should! You won't be disappointed.

Next time, visit "Palatul Parlamentului" or like TopGear said : "People palace" in Bucharest, it`s huge, also in the mountains, Dracula palace and Transfagarasan highway and Transalpina, one of the most beautiful roads in the world.

The Tripe Soup should be served with sour cream and chilly pepper. You combine the sour cream with vinegar in the soup to create your desired taste for the soup. We have another soup that doesn't have tripe in it, but it has chicken breast; it's called Ciorba Radauteana. It's less acidic because it doesn't have vinegar inside.
I'm falling in love with Romania and watching a lot of videos about it. Yours is really good and inspiring, congrats! I hope to go next year.

@@vernonandmaryana I would recommend you come during the summer months from december to march, so you can enjoy the beaches and festivals like the carnival.
Acidic taste is because tripe soup is made with vinegar. People usually top it up with more vinegar and sour cream with a bit of raw or pickled chilly, depending on the season and personal taste.
I liked it overall, the smell got to me first. I liked how savory it was. I can see how sour cream would make it very tasty. I’ll try that next time!
@@vernonandmaryana All I can say about tripe soup is that it's an acquired taste. I personally disliked it at first because it is made out of beef stomach. Once I got over that I found the dish to be edible in summer-autumn and good in winter. My favorite ciorba (sour-thick soup) is ciorba de perisoare (meatball sour soup) with a bit of sour cream in it and a side of thin green chilli.
Hope to catch you next time. As a rule of thumb, if you will not be such obvious tourists you can get by really cheap and stay longer than in other places where prices are actually high.

Actually, 12:15 soup is called "Ciorbă de burtă"(tripe soup), the meat is cow belly/cow stomach. The secret of this soup, beyond the cow's belly, is the fact that beef stew is boiled, resh vegetables(celery, carrots, onion, parsnip), vinegar, crushed garlic, eggs, sour cream, black pepper, parsley, oil, salt.
Greetings from Bucharest. You should visits Bucharest parks, they are so nice! Alexandru Ioan Cuza Park(IOR), Herăstrău Park(King Michael of Romania Park - Northern Side), Drumul Taberei Park(West side of the town, formely Moghioroș Park), Cișmigiu Park(close to Old Town), Tineretului Park(very close to Union Square where you have been!).
If you will visit Again Romania, you should visit other cities, though you probably wouldn't stay as much as in Bucharest. But also visit other things in Bucharest. Also, at the 37 floor of Sky Tower (Tallest building in Bucharest and Romania) there's a restaurant with a view of the city from above.

@@vernonandmaryana Hmm if u enjoyed Bucharest thats its a very big and very busy city , with some rundown parts in some places but some great ones also its a mix beetween old and new
and some old communist era buildings also that werent refurbished yet.
Guess u will be blown away by other cities in Ro. like Sibiu ,Brasov, Oradea . Cluj , TImisoara , Sinaia or Alba Iulia or Iasi .
Maybe u will be back sometime and def. need to add those cities on ur list . like i said Bucharest its a huge crowded city not so tourist friendly like the cities i mention above ^^

Many of those abandoned houses in Bucharest have been retroceded, but those who win them in court do not have the money to renovate them
Wrong. Most of the derelict buildings are the ones which were NOT given back because private owners do not let valuable properties go unused. They either put them to use themselves or sell them.

In Romania there's a huge tipping culture, if we don't tip workers the wages are way too low for anyone to want to work or to provide good service.
You should have seen also Village Museum, in open air. With houses from all over Romania from 18th century up to now❤

I would say that if you want to see Romania you need about one week in each part of the country. To get to know Romania and the people, you would need to stay a couple of years. Upside of living in Romania is it's cheap comparing to other EU countries.
We will be coming back in the spring to see more of the smaller towns and countryside. We really loved our visit.

If you haven't planned yet, I suggest you stay longer. People generally take it easy here, even in the cities. Give yourselves time to get bored and to take it slow.
If you visit Bucharest when you return during spring, you have to visit the Botanical Garden next to the Cotroceni Palace - it used to be the garden of the palace. Preferably during a sunny day.
It's very cheap to get in, students get in for free and few people know about that little gem which is almost free to see.
Nice so for tripe soup, you can use a teaspoon of vinegar and a bit of garlic to give it that sour taste, but pepper works too, or if you like it spicy, it depends on your taste.
I don't think there was a special exhibit of religious art, I visited some years ago and those artworks were there. If you want to see the real art it is in the Churches around the country, those you saw were donated by Churches to the museum. The Romanian art and culture is centered around religion. All inns (Hanuri pl. from Han) in Bucharest were built as fortresses surrounding small churches, resembling the layout of monasteries. People go to church all the time. Many don't go to church on a daily or weekly basis, but when it's Easter everyone tends to go and light candles to take them home. About churches owning land, back in the day whe Ottomans were suzerains, most of the rich people used to give their possessions to the Orthodox Church for safe-keeping as the Ottomans could not confiscate Church lands, although they broke the treaties we had and looted many poorly defended churches or monasteries. Many people still donate to the church, especially if they don't have inheritors.
For what it's worth, you usually put wine vinegar and sour cream in the tripe soup until it feels tasty enough. As a Romanian, it's not really my cup of of tea, first because it's a bit too oily/fat for my taste, second because, well, it's kinda specific to certain regions and I guess I didn't grow up eating anything related to that. Also, there's a bunch of recipes for every single dish. Although Romanian cuisine is fairly consistent across the country, local taste differs quite a bit. For instance, I was never able to find a beans soup that I enjoyed. In the south, namely Bucharest, it's a rather sweet soup, while in Moldova (the eastern part of Romania, not the Republic of Moldova), it's made with fresh borscht, which makes it a sour soup (and that's the way I like it). There's also a bunch of other dishes like "gulaș", which is basically the Hungarian gulyas but adapted somehow to Romanian taste. Generally speaking, Romanian cuisine is a massive combination of oriental dishes (think sarmale, cabbage rolls aren't unique to Romania, there's a bunch of other countries where you can find them, like Turkey), some slavic or central European (Poland area) like any soup made with borscht, and a fair amount of dishes similar to the ones in Western Europe. There's also quite a large selection of cheeses, but unlike Western Europe, fresh cheeses, not dry cheeses, so in this regard it's more similar to Greek cuisine (think feta or even something closer to mozzarella, we have some similar ones, although not identical) and a pretty generous selection of sausages (although we kind of share that with the Poles).
Anyhoo, if there's one observation I'd make about your videos from Bucharest, it's that Romania was never a soviet country. Communist yes, soviet no, we were never part of larger Russia although Russians would've loved it to be. Also, the round tower next to the old town, that's actually a modernist art deco building from the '30s and it used to be an office building - I think it might've been converted to flats like 30 years ago, but I wouldn't bet my life on that :)
Lovely video. Bucharest is beautiful and the food looks amazing. But it's Budapest that's know as the Paris of the East. But Bucharest is gorgeous.

In italy tripa and other organ meats are apreciated so tripe soup is not so different, bur in Romania they like ciorba a little on the sour side so this one is dressed with some vingar!

It’s not mean, you don’t need to like 100% of everything you eat. Keeping it honest. I think adding some vinegar and pepper (other people suggested) probably would have changed the taste a bit.

Haha if there’s a demand. It’s more than what we usually see. Next time we’ll be going to all the castles in Romania.
the demand is very high. The wast majority of romanians are eastern orthodox and wherever they life they build eastern orthodox churches. You can see this in Austria, Germany, Italy etc. where live now a lot of romanians, they already have 3 eastern orthodox Churches only in Vienna. Its normal that Romania which is full of romanians to be full of eastern orthodox churches. The problem with Romania si the ruling class that have high budgets but dont care about infrastructure, education or health.

@@alifc1082 As I can see the romanian church it fulfills its purpose by building churches and keeps the churches in good condition. They even spend a lot of money to help poor people and for romanian cultural purpose. For example outside of Romania many romanian churches teaches romanian children for free the romanian language and organizes many romanian cultural events. But the romanians state doesnt fulfill its purpose, but it happens because there are many dump romanians that confuse the church with the state and instead to attack the respective ministeries they attack the church as if the church is responsible for infrastructure, health and education. I mean, its not normal that the romanian church does more for the romanians that live outside Romania than the romanian state and it is even more anormal when many romanians attack the church instead of the state. I would allow the romanian church to rule the health, infrastructure and education ministeries and to have the budged of these ministeries because I think the church would change whole Romanian because they would use the money much better. Just look at all the cnurches and what the church does with way less money than these ministeries have. It just shows that the church is ruled by monks that have no wife and dont have the right to own land and houses.

Bucharest WAS called little Paris before the earthquake, American bombings and the communists destroyed most of the historic buildings. Now, Bucharest is like an architectural landfill. It’s one of the ugliest capitals in Europe.

Practically you went to the most "touristic" places in Bucharest. Most of the restaurants you went are overrated and you totally missed the real romanian food,or he best food the city could offer. The graffitis are annoy us too,is ridiculous that are graffiti in the middle of the city when we have local police that patrol day and night.i guess they are not so efficient and are needed some measures by local authority. If you go further from center of city you will noticed that are no grafitti,or in low amount at least. Anyway, you are most welcome again and again!
As a romanian I Find Bucharest filthy, in fact it’s the filthiest I’ve ever Been to, really disappointed! All the Historical buildings are left to Rot, they’re calling apart, a lot of grafitty on historical buildings!

Clădiri de patrimoniu lasate in paragina, mâzgălite cu graffiti, mizerie, miroase a pisat peste tot, trotuarele lipicioase, aer lipicios și murdar! Am fost in multe orașe din afara și nu am văzut asa ceva acolo, dezgustător!
@@ai-no3ib Ciudat. Nu e cel mai OK oras dar nu am mai vazut de mult ce descrii pe acolo. Cu exceptia anumitor cladiri, multe sunt renovate / reabilitate. Prin ce zona ai fost? Nu de alta dar mie mi se pare mult mai curat decat majoritatea oraselor europene prin care am fost, inclusiv capitale. Si e o remarca pe care am intalnit-o la toti RUclipsrii straini care ajung in Bucuresti...
