  • In today's video we give you some ideas of what and where to eat when visiting Bucharest, Romania. We take you to Caru Cu Bere, otherwise known as The Soul of Bucharest, which is probably the most well known and famous traditional Romanian restaurant in Bucharest. We also show you Cartofisserie, a Romanian fast food chain that features tasty inexpensive eats. Romania is also known for it's numerous gelato shops but one in particular, Gelateria La Romana, is a must visit. Finally, and probably our favorite of the list is the Taverna Covaci, another superb traditional Romanian restaurant.

    Thank you for your visit and review! ❤
    Just a small thing : i heard that 99% of the foreign people visiting Romania pronounce “mici” like “Mitchie”. That pronounciation means “The mici”. If you want to say it without definite article “the”, you should pronounce it like the name “Mitch”.
    I eat two Mitch (mici).
    I eat The Mitchie (micii - with two i in romanian).
    I eat one Mick.
    These would be the correct forms.
    Sorry. I just noticed everybody misspronounce it and that’s why i thought i should clarify it :)
    Thanks again!

      @@Kenshirokan no problems! It is not a “mistake”, it was just an observation. If i were to go to Germany tomorrow, i would probably pronounce ok as far as I know, but a german would very probably tell me that my pronunciation is giving the words different nuances and meanings. So no worries! :)

      Romanian can look confusing sometimes with the double-i's. :) However, there are cases when we have three i's in a row, without it being a typo. Let's take the word for 'a child'; _un copil._ The plural affix in this case is another i, so ... copili. But! .... This is also one of those cases where word-final L disappears, leaving us with _copii._ Through some bizarre cosmic sense of humour, the male definite plural article in this case is also i ... so we end up with _copiii;_ 'the children'. :D In similar vein, the female name _Andrea_ is spelt _Andreea_ in Romanian. Again, not a typo, but the vowel cluster _ea_ is itself a diphtong, pronounced roughly like /ya/. That's why we need that extra "e" in there, so as to make sure we still have the "e" sound. Without it, Andrea would be /an'drya'/. :)

      Yes, very expensive by local standards and we certainly acknowledge that but to be fair, we are not local and are coming from a country where a meal in an equivalent restaurant would cost twice as much. It's nice to splurge every now and then is it not? If the food, service, and place were all awful we would be honest and would certainly let everyone know but that was not the case. Not justifying the cost by any means simply trying to put things in perspective. Appreciate the insight and big thanks for watching our video!

    • @alladin1314
      @alladin1314 3 месяца назад

      For a restaurant that you need to book in advance, it has many 10-20$ meal options. It is expensive, for like street food standards, but the fact that it's fully booked - means that it's not that expensive.

  • @danielvanr.8681
    @danielvanr.8681 7 месяцев назад +3

    Sorry to nitpick, but the name of the restaurant (Caru' cu bere) is pronounced, using English phonetics, /KA-roo koo BEH-reh/. Just like in Italian, the letter "c" is only pronounced like English "ch" if it comes before an "i" or an "e" -- e.g. Ceausescu /chow-SHES-koo/. In all other positions it's pronounced like English "k". :) If, however, there's no escaping the i or e, but we still need a /k/ sound, we add an "h" after the "c", e.g. _Chiriac_ /KEER-yak/ (Romanian surname). :)

    It is a tourist trap. The building is beautiful, but the quality of food is mediocre to low. It was tasty several years ago, but as the receipt grew, the food got worse and overpriced. The general attitude is "here! Taste some Romanian food, eat quick, clear the table, pay and get tf out!". The locals come for the interior and the interwar atmosphere, not for the food.
