  • We fell in LOVE with Romanian food all over again! This time we only listened to what locals told us to eat, and tried some amazing Romanian dishes in the city of Cluj-Napoca.
We tried so many unique dishes, and we are so happy we decided to travel through Romania once again!
There are many more dishes and experiences we want to have in Romania, so if you have any suggestions please leave them in a comment down below. We WILL be back!
    Thanks for watching!

The varza a la Cluj that I knew had very little meat in it, I think smoked(not minsed) no rise, no onion, not noticeable... Was absolutely about the Varza, slow cooked and seasened and it was just great without meat too. At the time I was not a vegetarian, but now I am.. So I hope to find a place that make sit without meat... When I'll go back home for a visit

It's funny because if you think about it carefully, 70%-60% of traditional Romanian food is actually vegetarian, because traditionally in Romania you are not allowed to eat any animal products for almost half the year. Many dishes are actually vegan where we just add some meat or dairy products to give them a different taste when we are not at that time of the year. Even at sarmale we have a version that is purely vegan and which is as old as the original. Yes, it's true we eat a lot of meat, but you can find a lot of options even if you're vegetarian or vegan.

We eat a lot of vegetarian foods too because we're orthodox and for like almost half of a year (cumulated) we're not really supposed to eat any type of meat or dairy due to lent. But i don't think traditional restaurants make it, it's more so food that you cook at home. In my family we don't necessary do lent, but during the summer months or even in spring we eat far less meat than the rest of the year.

I have to tell you that it is rude to say that Cluj-Napoca is the capital of Transylvania and from my point of view, as a Romanian, that is not traditional Romanian food, there are only some adaptations using traditional Romanian recipes, but the authentic taste of Romanian food can be found in the Romanian area historical Moldova (not in the Republic of Moldova)

That's not true for a bunch of reasons. The main one is that it is hard to talk about Romanian traditional food because you will find something close (not identical) to each dish all over the Balkan Peninsula. There are variations specific to each region, like using sour cream in Transylvania, tomato bulion in Walachia and borsch in Moldova. There are, of course, dishes unique to each region, but I would argue that those are not national dishes, rather local dishes (and well worth tasting).
As for Cluj being the capital of Transylvania, it's just the biggest city. There is no other meaning to it, as it has no other special role in administration. Hence, "unofficial".

Just cause they’re not traditional in your region that doesn’t mean they’re not traditional in other places Romania… we don’t eat borsch in Transylvania but you do in Moldova upon hundreds of different foods, Romania is a country formed by 3 former countries that have extremely different cultures and history from each other. And yes cluj is the capital of Transylvania just like Iasi is the capital of Moldova etc. I’m from Transylvania and it’s not offensive at all, it’s only offensive to ultra-nationalists but you don’t have much to do with our region anyway.
