Today another mid range versus flagship battle between the latest Pixel phones, and i bet this will be a really good one Pixel 9 versus Pixel 8a. For the last few days it's so cloudy so we failed to show you the blue sky but definitely a lot of images will have blue shades on it so we would be able to compare them! We are utilizing all sensors from the ultrawide main and even the digital crop to see if there's any difference and also shooting macro. Today we will ask the question how big is the difference between these two phones and is pixel 8a a good alternative!

Wow, on quite a few of the samples I preferred the 8a.
Toward the latter part of the video, the 9, with the foliage, it looked a bit too vivid and lacking in subtleties, reminded me of the A55 vs the 8a where I felt that of the A55, also.
Sometimes I felt the white balance was a little better tuned on the 8a but I wasn't there, so that might not be the case. I felt there was perhaps a little too much oversharpening with both but especially the Pixel 9?
Sometimes I preferred the bokeh on the 8a, it was too much with the 9, for me, though I appreciate some people prefer a near complete obliteration of the distracting background; for me, on balance, I felt that the level of it on the 8a is preferable, albeit probably not in a distracting shopping mall like that, so unless the background is really ugly and really distracting, in which case the 9 makes more sense.
I had hoped Google would improve the night shots but in some situations the 8a looked a little better, though it was darker and still noisy with those high rise buildings, neither were great.
Much preferred the 9's portrait mode but I could live with the 8a's clearly lesser effort. Agreed, the Pixel 9 handled highlights better in extreme situations, as you so well demonstrated, I preferred the selife camera in video on the Pixel 9 and the 9's macro is appealing but I could probably live without it, just crop in on the main sensor.
Though I can see some fairly clear wins for the 9, as the price difference between them at the moment is pretty huge, I would go with the 8a and put the money you save toward the Pixel 10, though I much prefer the design aesthetics of the 9 to the 8a, though once both are in cases, there's probably not much in that!
Remind me how the 8a compares with the still cheaper giant killer 7a, again?!

If you're changing from the 8a to the 9, the 9 is probably a better all round device. If you're changing just for the camera there's no point really as there's no discernable difference between the two , just a few subtle differences and not enough to warrant an upgrade
