Quick questions: Why do you use a body saw and also a cut-off wheel to trim the panel part off? In which situation do you prefer to use a body saw?
When trimming the new panel part, it really doesn't matter, but when doing the final cuts I like to use the air saw because I have much better control over it, it is thinner, and less aggressive(sometimes the inner panels have very little gap between them). I normally always prefer the saw. The cut-off is definitely quicker

Probably 25 to 30 hours of working time. This doesn't include refinish. Making and fitting the backing plates nice is most time consuming
Can’t use those backing plates on many vehicles. Toyota is an example of one that no longer allows it.

Those little backing plates and but welds will rip apart in a crash. And crack over time, looks good

You can’t use those on every vehicle. Many mfg, like Toyota, only allow for butt joint weld “without backing”. Also have vehicles requiring using silicon bronze for joints like this.

Why the etch primer after filler?
Just to protect the work and bare metal from the elements. Sometimes, it doesn't get prepped right away

the diagram you showed with areas circled... who provides that... what are the circled areas? Do they indicate areas that may be cut for the splice?
Yes, these are the areas where you are allowed to section. These procedures are from all data. You need to pay a monthly subscription, but it provides all OEM procedures

Hello I have a question regarding cutting off the damaged panel. From what I can see and I definitely could be wrong it looks like you are cutting through structural unibody members to remove the damaged panel. Not so much up on the center pillar where you used a die grinder but down on the rocker where you used an air saw. Then when you go back with the new panel to make your final fitment cuts. What am I missing? Thanks.
@Danno74Z I am only cutting through the outer skin. You are correct, you do not want to be cutting through any other layers other than the outer skin
I went back and look closer and I saw the cuts. Yep you and the other tech just cut the outer skin. Autobody surgeon. :)

When you don't know how to repair so you remove and replace.
Doors were damaged beyond reasonable repair, the truck isn't old or rare, but the B pillar, rocker, and truck bed were easy repairs without remove and replace. Less prep, paint, and time and get it back to the customer sooner and bring in the next project.
A shop considers all approved methods of repair, then chooses the most profitable. I would not change a thing about this repair, this guy knows what he’s doing.
