Without knowing the actual car and it's construction I am going to assume that the vehicle is of monocoque construction as most modern cars are. In which case the box section of the sill is integral to the overal strength and rigidity of the whole car, therefor the integrity of the safety of the vehicle. In which case butt welding this panal is introducing weakness point that will fail either in time or God forbid another collision. More likely though from regular crossing of speed bumps while dropping off and picking up th e kids to and from school. What I do and all other well skilled panel beaters do is, they step the joint which is the strongest way to join a box section and again depending on the make and design of the car consideration would be made as to whether a fish plate is warranted behind the joint. Bog goes onto well sanded bare metal. You don't want to rely on a micro film of paint to hold the bog in place, however, for this stress joint, lead fill would be better to asorb the twist and strain of the monocoque chassis. If you don't believe that a step joint is better than a butt joint, examine how those panels are joined in manufacture.

Thats so cool watching you do this, I just did a rear body and a rear floor in a 2023 Jetta about two weeks ago and I I literally had to transfer everything from the old floor over to the new floor the spare tire mount plate the exhaust mount brackets and all the little screw nails to hold all the undershields up and the amount of welds along the wheel houses was insane I had almost 50 welds just along the sides where the floor meets the wheel houses and being a flat rate it really put me in the hole that week trying to get that job done and over to paint but I bounced back this week. But good job brother I love your work and im gonna use that seat belt trick I really like that. Wouldnt it be nice if you could get that jump done in 15 minutes lol have a good day bro.

I prefer to use panel bond adhesive with a series of backing strips glued to the underside of one side. The backing strips are 1 5/8” wide, leaving a 3/4” flange on each side of the gap. This is clamped using aircraft Cleco Clamps through 1/8” drilled holes. Then glue on the new panel by laying it onto the flange created by the backing strip. Then fill holes with more adhesive. This creates a super strong double thickness joint that has zero warp, no sparks and is completely watertight.
