John, very much enjoyed from your video. Appreciate how you document the process all the way through and throw in your personal tips. Not coincidentally, I have a silver Dodge Ram very much like this with exactly the same issue. Your video has given me a good reason to think through the ‘fix and keep it’ option. New trucks? $$$$$$$ Anyway keep up the good work. Well done!
Enjoyed the video! John, you're my kinda guy brother! Really like all the extras you do for your customers. Again, if I lived near you, I wouldn't hesitate to bring you my business and have you do the work on my 1990 Chevy C1500. Glad your channel is growing; it is well deserved 👍🏻
You really explain the process well The people that say Why are the ones that dont care about vehicles and would rather spent 80 grand they probably dont know anything about cars or trucks
Good video John, truck looks good. I always enjoy these videos. Nice to see the older vehicles being taken care of so they last longer. Also, congrats on the RUclips success I hope it keeps growing. Well deserved. Cheers
I fixed my own 04 Ram about four years ago, so I can really relate to your repair of the rockers and corners. I also replaced the inner rocker on the drivers side. Took a lot of work and hours to do it all, but it turned out great. Can’t tell it was all replaced. I also fixed the bed around the wheel arches.
I have to do mine and I have done some but this one has got to be done for longevity and restoration level. Thanks for the great professional level show.
Really great job man! Very informative, awesome to see the whole process here. I’m hoping the shop that’s working on my 09 Ram currently can do work as nice.👍
Excellent work, But I'm sure you know this that Those fender flares trap water and moisture that cause rust to form sooner than later. But the customer gets what the customer wants. Great job !
@Johnnymidnight that's a decent price especially for the way you go above and beyond with the rust proofing. I live in Niagara Falls NY the salt tears everything up. I'm also debating on trying this myself. But I have no clue how to paint and body fill.
I couldn't afford to pay that much money I'm just gonna cut it off my side rocker panel and leave it's like that wide open on mi Nissan frontier I make sure don't get rusted any more😢t@@Johnnymidnight
Hello, my name is Mike and I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500. It is in really good condition almost mint the guy that owned it before me was restoring it all I have to do is get rocker panels and cab corners. Where do I sign up?
So I’m going to be buying my rocker panels here soon but I noticed that there are 3 panels and the only kits I can find are the inner and outer rocker panels, so I was wondering what is that middle panel called and where I can get it or if I just have to fabricate it
Hello loved the video, i also have a 2010 dodge ram 1500 with the same issues, asked a body shop for a quote and they said up to $7000, is that about right?
@@Johnnymidnight you should try raptor liner sometime if you've never used it before ive sprayed it on a few things look greats holds up great and doesn't have to be top coated and if you want to paint match it you can buy white stuff and tint it with color.
I’m honestly not a fan of putting it in the exterior of vehicles, it seems to always end up with moisture getting under and causing more issues, and makes future repairs extremely difficult
Just out of curiosity how would you fix the spots where the running boards mount to? On my ram 1500 the bolts looked like they were ripped off.. and I wanted to reinstall the steps but the mounting surface of the truck are shot. Rusted and the holes are ripped, with metal sticking out.
You would either have to replace the inner rocker, or you could probably drill and weld nuts to some 16 gauge plates, and weld to the inner rocker where the old mounts were
Don't spend all that RUclips money in one place :). Nice job, looks good. Customer should have the lower portion of the front bumper painted black as well. Underneath looks great on the old gal, well worth a new set of rockers and cab corners. Thx for the video sir, it is appreciated.
Ray Bucks Auto Panels has most panels bought panels for my Ram 2010 for around the gas tank and lower panels they carry the rocker panels also for most all vehicles and classic cars
38:45 Do you recommend periodically flushing the inside of the rockers with water? Is there foam or anything inside the rockers like there is inside the wheel arches?
Looks great, but be mindful with fender flares, dirt and salt from the roads gets under them and rot out your fender/wheelarch. My truck had them stock and still rusted out
I see this guy wanted fender flares. Do you recommend them? I always figured they made the truck rust faster. But I’ve got new fenders and wheel arches on my Dakota and I have to admit the flares sometimes look cool. What’s your opinion?
I need to do rockers on my 2015 RAM. Approximately how many hours did it take you to install the panels to the point that you were ready to paint? Great video!!!
Does the rear wheel well have foam 09-22 4th gen? My 15 has rust in rear wheel well and krown rust proofing don’t want to cover the cost to repair cause they says their is foam, but I think it’s the generation before mine.
Hi John, just curious on what a 'few more years' is after a repair like this? I know theres lots of variables but can you give a time frame from your experience from shortest to longest survival time for these repairs?
I would expect using these cheap parts that they would probably be a 4-5 year repair, really dependant on upkeep. If kept clean I think they definitely last longer than less cared for vehicles. If using the better quality OE style parts, I feel they will last just as long as the originals did
I love your channel. Just wondering where are you located I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 that needs the same job done. 🤔 I would like it if you can fix my truck and I'll buy the rocker panel.
@@Johnnymidnightso - I got new Rocker Panels from Key parts. I see yours also has holes punched in the bottom? Are those drains or does the inner rocker fill those holes? Sorry, total amateur at this.

My '12 ram is doing this too and it's getting bad. The salt they use on the roads here is some fierce stuff. Thank you for making this video.

So do you not have to sand away some of the POR15 where you spot welded? Thank you.
I try not to get it on the flange that I’ll be welding to, but coat that area with weld through primer
Belt works great get a good 60 grit belt and it’ll take out all the spot weld on one belt
I definitely need to get some better quality belts, although I can probably do 100 trucks with one drill bit 😁

Around $4500 in my shop, using the OE style rockers, not the cheap slip inside. 7 is definitely pretty steep…..

How do water and salt get inside the rockers in the first place?

I don’t think it would hurt, they get wet inside anyway, best to do in hot weather then once dry treat inside with oil
