Your team building video made it into my algorithm last week and gotta say, love this content. And not just the content generally speaking, but your editing style and the way you visually break things down is really great. I’ve never competed competitively before officially but have always had the desire to, I felt like I already knew a pretty good deal in terms of being able to build a halfway decent VGC team, and actually did put one together a couple weeks ago and had a little bit of success with it online, but watching your videos has actually taught me even more things and have given me ideas of how to tweak what I’ve already built, and also giving me the itch to really try and go for it and eventually try to get into some tournaments.
That is awesome to hear, it's good to know it's helpful and I love the energy! If there's any topic you would think a video on would be helpful with lmk!
Yo, just wanna thank you for all the great content you're making!! got into pokemon vgc recently, and I was so confused with so much stuff, and your series really really helped me understand about the game. You really do solid explanations and good quality videos :D
I misunderstood the part with wide guard. I thought you said that wide guard will fail after an use. However, I realized you meant using wide guard and then protect. I was confused, but I thought of gen 5 since wide guard had a fail chance next turn in gen 5 lol. Great Video as always! Keep your great work up!
One of my favourite rules of thumb is to aim for 4 protects on your team if possible. 4 is the magic number in this case because it means any 4 pokemon you bring has 2 protects as a bare minimum and of the countless configurations you can pick in team preview, only one of them gives you no protects turn 1. There's definitely reasons to go below 4, especially in faster paced metas, but if you're at 3 protects on the team and you're stuck between sets for some of the remaining pokemon, slapping on that extra protect somewhere has abnormally high value in the extra flexibility it gives.
For sure! I agree 4 should be a baseline to aim for then if you have things like AV or choiced Pokemon that bring below 4. The average of the last 4 tourneys top 16 from each was between 3.25 and 3.5 protects/team.
I have not found a video so useful yet in the series because… I’ve never used protect! I always play hyper offense because in every story game in Pokémon all you do is mash hyper offense to win (almost always, darned Cynthia made me think) thank you!
Also main anti protect move is substitute on my leftovers araquanid, he also makes trickroom teams a breeze cause araquanid is so naturally slow and has wide guard
While Wide Guard cannot fail when used in succession, it does still continue the Protect fail counter. So the scenario I used in the video of using Wide Guard then using Protect and having it fail after is correct. You can Wide Guard successfully 2 turns in a row, but if you try to Protect the 3rd turn it will only have a 1/9th chance of success. But if you Protect first you can Wide Guard after and it will work, but trying to protect turn 3 will have that 1/9th success chance again.

The only protection I need is eye protection when trying to google image certain pokémon
weakling

Love to see someone getting into the game! Let me know if there's any topics you would like to see a video on!

Love these videos a lot, keep up the great work!
Amazing video as always!! Can’t wait for the next one
This is great! When you have a chance, can you add this video to one of your playlists? I think basics might be the most appropriate for this topic.

It makes a huge differece using it!
Love the flavor text
I remember when i was a noob in competitive i used follow me and protect 😂😂
My friends NEED this bro
Send it their way!

Big fan of Araquanid myself for the same reasons! Water bug is also a decent defensive typing.
@@TheDelybird also because water bubble gives it a fire resist
interesting followup could be when to not teach protect as like 90% of Pokémon in doubles want it
What you said about wide guard is false, you can use it infinitely
