    American here. To answer your question about double sinks in the bathroom, it's a common thing to find in master bedrooms. It's referred to as "Jack and Jill" sinks and it's meant for each partner to have their own set up without cramping up space. So let's say one partner is brushing their teeth while the other is shaving, they can do it at the same time rather than wait for one to get done.
    Having your own sink also means you can tell your partner to clean up their own mess on their side 😆

      Some houses will also have double sinks in the non master bedroom for siblings to use the sinks at the same time too. Definitely more common in larger homes then apartments though.

    The two sinks are his and her sink. One is so the person can shave at the sink, and the other person doesn't have to look at it, and the other has stuff around it for doing hair and / or makeup. That way, each person has what they want at their sink. Then, they can both brush their teeth at the same time.

    Ground floor apartments are the best. I own one and I am the only that has:
    - my own private hallway that's not shared, meaning somebody else CANNOT make it dirty..
    - I don't have to pay for the elevator's maintenence which is quite expensive.
    - I am the only one with a YARD.
    It also has other advantages:
    - You can easily move in and out any kind of furniture.
    - When the elevator is out of order, you don't have to do ANY steps with groceries, and believe me, elevators get out of order A LOT.
    - It's a lot SAFER in case of fire as you're closer to the outside...
    - You have 1 neighbour less versus a middle apartment, since nobody lives under you.
    To me, ground floor apartments are the BEST and quite frankly the only type of apartment I would buy.

    • @ember9361
      @ember9361 7 месяцев назад +16

      they're the closest to a house in that sense, sounds lovely! The danger thing is regarding home invasions & etc. I lived in a sketchy place and I felt much safer higher off the ground
      I like apts, I don't mind neighbours! Makes me feel not alone :)

    • @BelgianDude
      @BelgianDude 7 месяцев назад +10

      @@ember9361 burglars also can easily sneak into higher apartments. You'd be surprised how much agility they have, they literally climb up through balconies to the upper levels, break in and open the door to the hallway so they can get out with their stolen goods. In my country, there literally is no difference between ground level break in's versus higher level apartments break in's sadly. :/ Luckily, I live in a pretty decent location :D

      Where I live, the ground floor gets the most noise for some reason. The ceilings are noisier than the apartments above them. But I'm not gonna lie, I would love to be able to exercise at home at any time of day without worrying about a cease and desist notice appearing on my door. What a luxury it will be when I finally live in a space where I can walk normally and maybe jump or run once in awhile without someone calling security to report that I'm rearranging furniture in the middle of the night because I stood up from my desk to get a snack.

    US here: Yes, two sinks in a Master Bath (En Suite) is a great feature. You aren’t sharing the sink when you and your partner are getting ready. Ours has the sinks/counter/cabinets/mirrors in one part, then there is a door that goes into where the toilet and bath/shower are. We don’t live in a mansion, more of a middle class house that has some nice features like that.

    • @hotpinkkt
      @hotpinkkt 7 месяцев назад

      I live in the US too and two sinks are always in nicer, big homes. My parents home they built in the late 80's and has 5 bedrooms and doesn't have 2 sinks so you must live in a nice upper middle class house then. I have seen them in newer upper middle class homes

  • @m0L3ify

    You can stack staircases on top of each other so long as they don't have an attached wall. So the iron staircase you used would work. Just place it in the exact same location and orientation as the one on the floor below it and it will work. You can do this with stairs that have turns in them, and fully switch back stair cases as well. It saves space. If you want to use a wood staircase that comes with a default wall, just put down a wall-less staircase, like the iron one here, and then select the wood stairs you want and paste them over the iron ones and you'll get wood stairs without a wall that can be stacked.

    About the double sinks, I guess it’s more for couples, they can share the space without bothering the other. It exists in France, but it needs enough space in the bathroom. It’s not rare but not common either.
    About the term « apartments » / « flats » here in France, we call the building for many residential units « immeuble » (building) and the unit are called « appartements » or « studio » (for one living space with the kitchen space shared with the living room / bedroom space and of course the bathroom apart)

    Fellow Brit here, the advantage of some ground floor flats is that they might have access to a garden whereas the others do not! It depends on the style of the building - often the big, modern, new build developments like the kind you were talking about don't have gardens and there's shared outdoor courtyard, but some flats (especially ones which are house conversions) will give the existing garden to the ground floor flat, which then makes them more desirable.

    Hope you feel better soon. Americans like two sinks in the bathroom so more than one person can get ready for the day at the same time. Ground floor apartments are easier for people to break into. I had a co-worker once who was attacked and raped by someone climbing in through her window. The landlord moved her upstairs to a higher apartment after that. There are safer versions of ground floor apartments - those with fenced-in courtyards with security gates and no windows on the side that faces out away from the courtyard. I lived in one like that before. I guess it could be argued that houses have the same security issues as a ground floor apartment.

    4:10 Same! I was looking for a flat with my partner this summer and I got to choose between 6th floor and ground floor, and we picked the 6th floor one, because I was so afraid of living ground floor. Somebody can break your windows with a rock. Or climb to your balcony. Or even stalk/peep at you from the street. I know that in small towns it is relatively safe to live in a ground floor apartament. My friend lives like that for her entire life and nothing bad has ever happened. But here in one of the biggest cities in my country? Insanely unsafe! And I am living in a pretty safe country. I can't imagine how it would be somewhere with higher crime rate, like France or even worse, USA.

    American here: It looks stranger in the Sims because you can only put sinks on whole tiles, but in real life there would be like half a Sims counter at least on either side of each sink. Unless the bathroom is very large, 5 tiles of counters, you can't replicate the counter space right. If the Jack and Jill bathroom had a 4 tile wide counter in The Sims with the two sinks placed on half tiles, it'd look more like real life in a less large bathroom.

    as far as ground floor apartments, ive never had any issues with security, even before i had my dog. i lived in upstairs units many times before & i just cant stand them lol. the moving into them is horrible, & also having to lug heavy groceries upstairs all the time.. living downstairs/ground floor i dont need to worry about how loudly im walking, or how rambunctious my dog gets, or about the cats & their zoomies in the middle of the night. most ground floor apartments have larger porches too than the decks upstairs, & i have a lot of plants & outdoor furniture haha.. but yk all this stuff is just preferences really. like i said never had any security concerns, even when living in well.. what some might consider questionable areas

    When 🇫🇮 I lived Madrid 🇪🇦 as an Erasmus exchange student, I accidentally chose a first floor (ground level) room of a shared flat. It was right in the middle of the building. Its terrace felt like you were in a dungeon because the space was small and surrounded by walls all around (I even joked about it with my Spanish flatmates). 😆 One wall was almost like a thick tall fence, and you could only see the windows of the upper floors nextdoor, with a patio or something like that between the two buildings. I've lived almost my entire life in the countryside, so that was quite something...
