Good to see a couple Big Jimmys in there. I'm gearing up for a week run around the Wye starting on Sept 6th with my multi purpose rebuilt 22' sailboat. It will be my brother and my first time trot lining but the size of the boat looks good running a 9hp outboard so I'm hoping it works out. I did go with the "black mamba" trot line from Crab Bully and now wondering if it is going to make things difficult if we can't see the line itself that well. We shall see!
We need to get some polarized sunglasses. It might help.
Rework your pickup to just skim the surface, or even a bit below. Run the line with the sun at your back, off the Port side, so the line and baits come up in the shade of the boat - they won't see the sun and drop off so fast. Go slower - be organized, quiet and calm on the boat, use salted eel, not necks - tied into loops on the line - no droppers. Necks are fine for hand lining, but not trottin'... You've got to stab with the net, straight down, deep and fast - not sweep with it - even if Mr. Crab drops - you stand a good chance of catching him. Try it - you'll improve your take 30% or more.

It was a tad windy, so I put the wind to my back, the wife, boat, trotline, and wind does not mix!! Lol. I was told that the shadow of the boat would make them drop off, I can't go any slower, unless I am bumping in and out of gear.
Thanks for that info, I already bought too many necks so I'm committed but I'm set low and can creep along so we shall see how it goes in Sept.
Wife and I went trot lining two weeks ago. Now have PTSD..

We've been known to run a line every once in a while over here in slower lower DE Sam... not MD crabs but they eat just fine...👍

For one thing she should have her polarized brown glasses on , I can adjust my cradle foreword so the front guy can see the crabs , and my snoods aren’t as long as yours, I have been catching about the same amount of crabs just using a slip knot
Yeah, I cut a lot of them shorter. I was telling that to her while we were crabbing, that the snoods were to long.
I am going to either get a new roller or redesign this one.
Might have considered switching baits to the open tops if they were hard to see and dropping off early?

No one trotlines in Louisiana, even though you can.
We used to use big hairy bull lips back in the day. I dont even know where my Dad got them but they worked and stayed on the trotline much better than chx necks.
I've heard that, I never tried to buy them. Chicken necks are much easier to find. I do like razor clams.

@@alanknight4418 I do believe the microphones I had are very low grade compared with my good microphones. The other video we didn't have any microphones ( trotline) video.
