Excellent video. I've been crabbing recreationally for about 10 years, mostly in the Wicomico River in Southern Maryland (off the Potomac). I've always been a trotline chicken necker, but recently have been thinking about getting some traps to bring along also. Great tips about wind, especially for little guys like us on jon boats. I love watching these videos to see how others are doing things. Thanks for taking the time to put the content together.
@@kentmalley4321 I am trying to get down there to do a collab with a buddy ( youtuber) russ who is from Mississippi. His channel is "Smokey Ribs BBQ". Great channel
Last year I bought 20 traps I have yet to use them. I’ve always used a trotline since I was a kid. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to get out there and drop a few traps and give it a try.
If you are not using snood a cow hitch knot will allow you to pop off all the baits at the end but just yanking one end and tying off to a cleat. Makes cleanup much easier
Hello I have Hey, 600 foot trotline. It's a little easier to manage for somebody that's inexperienced, in my opinion. And you can always add another 600 foot
Our uncle skipper Schrader gave us his trotline setup for this season with the wire net and those anchor weights so after seasons of using traps we gonna try the trotline 🦀yupp
I just reread our email from the other day and realized I hadn’t watched this yet. Awesome video. Also loved the little edit you did with the “ka-powww” sound and your wife’s pic
I completely ripped this idea off from another youtuber I watch. It is "dead broke bbq" That is most popular video. Check it out. He done it way better than I did. But I had fun making it. I told Jeff I was ripping off. Lol
Thanks for the info. I grew up in Maryland and in the Summer we spent just about every weekend on the Chesapeake in Deale MD. We used the square traps and we fished , swam , and also did a little waterskiing as a family of 5. One thing I'd point oout . It sounds like you are saying TROUT line . It's called a TROT line , no U . Steamed in beer and Old Bay is the only way 😎
As I was telling on the live couple weeks back. Maryland legal ring net size is 30" I made my own. They are 3 ring top ring is heavier and more stout. Middle ring keeps net open and bottom gives plenty Room at to peg with 4 necks. When you pull up the crab locks in the bottom and can't swim out because of the depth of the net. But they stack flat. Takes up no space. I used to do it in a coleman canoe on the Chester and wye rivers.
@@GypsyDee they usually shed on a new moon, but they are done shedding for the year. Any crabs you catch should be good and full of meat. Good luck and might want to go deep. If you crabbing in Maryland.
@@GypsyDee crabbing can be real good no matter the moon phase. Keep an eye on the tide. Full moon can give a extra high tide. As long as the current is moving you have a great chance. Full moon usually mean they should be more full and packed with meat. New moon, you will get a lot of white shells, because they haven't filled back in.

Thank you for watching! I have some commercial crabbing coming too. I have some of those videos. We are taking our first crabbing trip this weekend 🤞
I’m from the Mississippi Gulf Coast and I love the nets. Besides that is what we use most

Great info. This is a very informative video. You guys are looking great and ready for the 2024 crbbing season. Hope to see you on the water.
We were heading out tomorrow, but changed until Saturday. 1st trip.
Next week doing some commercial crabbing

Your allowed to take both. We just did a video yesterday using the trotline for the first time this year.
I've done both and for space, ease of baiting/unbaiting, and moving its traps all the way! Great video, thanks for sharing
Awesome thank you

I knew there was another knot. I forgot what is was. Thanks for the comment. 🍻

Is crabbing on a FULL MOON better. I’m going crabbing this Friday on the full moon 🌕 Also are there any places to crab at night in Sandy Point.

TROTLINE!
Traps, all the way. It doesn't help that I don't own a boat bright now.
It is a little easier. I especially like trotline at the beginning and the end of the year. Crabs our deeper.
