    What a simple, but great adjustment; can this be used to adjust tummy area on a legging pattern and a jean skirt?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  3 года назад

      Yes, you can use this adjustment to make tummy room in any pant or skirt that has a CF seam ...keep in mind that if you’re working with a stretch pattern, you may bony need to add as much (what you’re added stretches bigger) :)

  • @crewell0722

    This is amazing! I just did this adjustment on a pair of pants I've been working on. I have a couple of questions. 1) Do I redraw the grainline coming from the lower part up because I see now that it is crooked after the adjustments. 2) My side seam is also crooked so should I straighten it out? TIA

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! Yes, extend the grainline below the adjustment to extend it back up straight. You can true up the side seam by smoothing the crooked part. Lay the front/back legs on top of each other so you can see both side seams next to each other.. Smooth the front to agree with the shape of the back side seam... If need to trim off a significant amount... split it up and trim some off the front and add some to the back to maintain the measurement. Hope this helps, thanks for fitting along with me

    thanks a lot for your tutorials. I have a prominent tummy + a tilted forward front (i also watched your video). Which adjustment should I do first?
    Is there a list somewhere of your tutorials. you have made so many it's difficult to find what I need (pants fitting - my nightmare fitting-- and round upper aging back.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  11 месяцев назад

      :) Do this first: ruclips.net/video/QvhocHFRPGU/видео.html This tilted waistline method not only shortens the front rise, it also lengthens the back rise (which is usually necessary because it's not just the waistline that's tilted, it's your pelvis, so the back is usually longer). Then follow this to adjust for your tummy: ruclips.net/video/9fJzcYFBQEM/видео.html (If you need expand your waistline for your tummy, this tutorial will also work well). Thanks for fitting along with me

    My hips are narrow and my butt is flat. But my waist is average. I have had success by straightening out the hip to waist curve to make a bigger waist, but I think I may try the technique you show here.
    After all, trouser pattern size should generally be chosen by hip measurement.

    I’m creating a pants sloper and having problems moment tummy issues, the waist and low hip sewing to be right but I have the lines radiating from front to outer edge at the abdomen, your adjustment looks like a great idea. I just don’t know how much to add, since the pattern is made with my own measurements. Suggestion?

      If you allow the CF to open until it feels comfortable, the gap between the edges is the amount you need to add :) Thanks for fitting along with me

    Hi Jen, thank you for all your videos! Would you do this adjustment for leggings (tight fit) or yoga pants (close but not super tight fit) if tummy is not super huge but noticeable? Or is it only needed for woven pants?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 года назад +1

      For yoga pants or leggings, I like to use a compression knit so the front leg and waistband act as a tummy control panel. :)

    This is wonderful. Thank you so much. I have a couple of questions 1. Does this work on pants with a dart? 2. My waist is 44 and my hip is 49. How much do I add to a pattern if the waist measure is 39 waist/50 hip? This particular pattern doesn't have darts. Would I add 2 1/2 in on each side?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 года назад +3

      Yes, you can use this technique with pants that have a dart. As for how much you need to add, I think the first thing I would do is blend between sizes so the waistline is closer to your body measurement... For example if you are working with a size 18 for the full hip... blend to size 20 at the waistline. Then split the total amount in half and add that. If you are working with the pattern to make your first fit muslin, the goal is to have enough ease to get it on your body so you can fine-tune the fit based on how the muslin fits! Thanks for fitting along with me.

    Love this adjustment but I have a quick question. When you added the quarter inch at the crotch, doesn’t it throw off the grainline because it was only added at the crotch?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 года назад +1

      That's a great question! The vertical grainline is in the center of the leg from the hem to the knee. After that, all bets are off. The vertical grainline may be closer to the side or cf edge based on your shape. Hope that helps!

  • @bonnieantonini

    If one has a prominent tummy, wouldn't it be better to place the zipper along the back seam or the side seam? The zipper adds bulk which would be hidden in the back.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 года назад +3

      That's a great idea, you could put the zipper somewhere other than center front... If the design of the pant really needs a front fly, a cut-on front fly (fly pieces are one piece with the leg pieces) + a nylon zipper gives you the least bulky result.

    • @bonnieantonini
      @bonnieantonini 2 года назад +3

      I'm surprised the fashion industry hasn't caught on that women don't say, "my tummy isn't big enough - let's add a bulky zipper covered with a flap." I believe there was a time when zippers were in the back or side. Not sure why it switched.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад

      If you need to add 3" across the entire front, that's really not a lot. You can create a couple slashes and spread them 3/4"... that adds up to 3". If you need to add 3" on each side, I think I would let out the side seam in addition to doing this adjustment to help maintain the shape of the pattern. Hope this helps!

      Filtered water, some sugar and a couple of Dates work just as well as yeast! One of our RUclips contributors for Germany taught me that.
      It's called Yeast Water. Takes about 3 days to ferment enough to use, but most of us have time on our hands, and sometimes dough.

    • @JSternDesigns

      Try taking in the side seams to see if you can remove the excess ease without pulling the fabric too much off grain. If that works yay! If not you can add fisheye waist darts... and, you can adjust the adjustment to remove the extra inch of ease.
