  • Pants are notoriously difficult to fit. This is considered common knowledge in the garment sewing community and has most likely caused many of you to not even bother trying to sew pants. Even I have avoided making pants for fear of spending countless hours trying to get the fit just right. So let’s see if we can tackle this difficult subject together.
    In last week’s video I gave you some basic information and a few resources to get you started with fitting pants. This week I wanted to start with a solution to a fitting issue I’ve often seen with my private clients, the tummy adjustment, but before we get to that there are a few things you need to confirm before you start the fitting process for this fitting issue. I've always had a little low tummy. I just open the front darts and add a little width to the sides. It's not perfect but that all I can do not to manipulate the pattern. I'll definitely try this method and I think it may be best.

    Really easy to understand. Thanks! One question: it seems like the tummy adjustment matches the fit issues for a person who is standing in an anatomical swayback position (hips forward past toes, hyperextended legs, round upper back, dramatic extension at the rib-lumbar spine area rather than truly a low back natural curve). Have you experienced this or worked on garments for people like this? Typical dancer fit issue and I can’t get panties, tights, leggings to fit properly, no matter the size.

    The center front line ends up curved. How does this work if you want to make a fly front. Must it not be straight then?

    I have a problem with excess fabric on my back leg below the crotchline, can't get rid of it. It looks smoother toward the side seam...and looks like long comma lines, what should I try to do? Is it a flat backside problem?

  • @atlladyleo1
    @atlladyleo1 5 лет назад

    If you choose pattern based on waist size (mine is sometimes off the pattern sizes on the pattern back), won't the hips be huge? Most patterns I found from the big 4 manufacturers go to 41 1/2 (size 26) but then the hips are 50+ inches, which is WAY larger than my hips.

  • @jenl2530
    @jenl2530 Месяц назад

    This is useful, but I just want to note something. If the new centerline is extended beyond the hip line, you are actually *adding* extra fabric to the crotch area, not subtracting it. It’s one of those counter intuitive things one encounters in crotch curves. To minimize crotch poofiness, rather, do not extend the new centerline down to crotch level.

    • @AlexandraMorganInHousePatterns

      I think it depends on the tummy shape and the existing crotch extension. Adding fabric at the cf will allow more fabric over the tummy area and shift the grain line toward the side of the body which can then remove excess found in the front crotch. As with all fit adjustments, the success of any method used depends on the shape you are fitting and the starting point of the pattern fit. No single solution will work for all body shapes.

    Howmuch is the max of front crotch and back crotch width??? Please

  • @mayasmikael3130

    What about pleats ? Arent tgey good for this problem

    • @AlexandraMorganInHousePatterns
      @AlexandraMorganInHousePatterns  7 месяцев назад

      Pleats are a styling feature which is determined by the fit of the pant without the pleat. If the pant is not fitted correctly to the body without the pleat, the pleat with not be beneficial.

    I'm so frustrated, what if you have a full tummy, a large low bum, and full thighs. It seems like no matter where I buy pants, unless its a palazzo, I have a wedgie in the back. Even clothes I've had made for me give me a wedgie and they always end up putting a gusset in the crotch. Do you do online personal classes?

    I have one problem and I can not find whats wrong.. no matter what I do I get a camel toe so called on the front crotch. my crotch length is ok, my back crotch is perfect, but front.. no matter what I do when I sit it seams to pull in and its really uncomfortable. it this the issue of a tilted pelvis?
