I have purchased most of your recent fitting books, but this video made the information in the book come alive for me, as i am a visual learner. I really enjoyed this video. Please make more.
Thank you. It is funny that this topic was brought up during our 5-day Sewing Camp Workshop last week with the same conclusion by our long term campers. Very coincidental! Ha. Pati
This was a very helpful video. Thank you. The tips I like especially are 1) the 1" SA at the waist and the inseam and the side seam, and 5/8" on the crotch curve 2) evaluating the paper fit on just half the body 3) The 1" elastic at the waist, and pinning the trousers to the elastic, rather than tucking it in (which is what I've been doing). 4) the side seams are pinned inside out when fitting. 5) marking the waistband with the landmarks oflocations of pleats and pockets
Helen Bartley who now teaches Palmer/Pletsch Pant Fitting Workshops here in Portland tells me she watched the pant videos over and over in the beginning, so that is a good way to go. You'll see more each time. Pati
Thank you for putting fitting videos here! Fitting is the biggest hurdle to successful sewing for me. I also have a high round and round back problem that I didn't have when I first used your system in the 90's. A huge hurdle for me now and I need some help. I will look for videos here to find some help. Thank you!
You are welcome! You can find more PalmerPletshDigital.com. They are the full video classes 1 1/2 up to 3 hours of video depending on the topic. Because we filmed, edited, and pay a royalty to the talent, they are reasonably priced but not free like the clips. When I selected clips, I tried to make them long enough to be valuable. Glad you are learning from them. Pati Palmer
Whoa. This method is probably great for a lot of people but I prefer the step by step sloper technique. But you make this look like magic so I will try it.
You are only fitting half of your body and if your sides are a little different you will tweak in fabric. We use 1" side and inseam allowances to make that possible. Glad you are willing to try. Pati
We just posted dates for 2023 on palmerpletsch.com. Classes are limited to 6 and we have waitlists when one fills. We also have 4 locations in the US. Pati
Great video, thank you. You didn't show us how you pinned the pattern pieces together before trying it on. Did you pin paper strips to the seam allowance first?
Hi from down under. I love your style. Thank you for the instruction fit the perfect pant fitting. My next query is about the fabric. Is it a stretch fabric? What is your recommendation for a fabric that fits the best every time please?
Fabrics with good drape often fit the easiest such as rayons. Cotton stretch fabrics are great for your weather and you can fit them snugly. I have to lower my back crotch more when I make tight pants. Lightweight linen is currently popular and fits well as a looser style. Watch for our upcoming blogs because several are on pants. If you sign up for our mailing list we will email you each time there is a new one. Love Australia. My daughter married an Aussie.
I’ve just ordered your fitting pants for real people book and have a question while I’m waiting for it to arrive- I have the McCall’s 3740 pattern and want to make view B but without a zipper and with a flat front and elastic back. Where do I mark the center front seam omitting the zipper? Love your tissue fitting method and can’t wait to get the book and get started. Also will what I’m planning work? Hi, Thank you for the nice comments. Just sew up the front on the center front seamlines and leave just 5/8" seam allowance. In our Pant book there are many elastic waist options including one with elastic in the back only. Hope you find it in the book. Pati
They do. It depends on the knit and the style you choose. For in-depth on fitting knits, we include fitting knit pants in our book Knits for Real People.
You can get it from our website or Amazon. Shipping may be a little out of site. That is why you can order a digital copy of our books at palmerpletschdigital.com. There is a demonstration on the site showing you how they work. It is pretty exciting. Pati
So sorry. My husband speaks German but doesn't sew. Some programs can translate like maybe Adobe PDF app. Might have to scan or take a picture? I am not sure. Try searching for a translation app for books. Hope this helps. Pati
Awesome video! I've been watching many and I finally understand.

I am enjoying reading the book. There's a system called TDCO. I thought it was a new invention, but this system predates it by years!

Thank you for liking our system of tissue-fitting and for giving such a thorough review.
Very helpful! This makes it easier to understand. As a Beginner+ I will need to watch it a few times! I have subscribed... more videos please!

Great video, thank you. You didn't show us how you pinned the pattern pieces together before trying it on. Did you pin paper strips to the seam allowance first?
Nope, just pinned on the seamlines. The pattern has 1" seam allowances just in case!

This is good for stable fabric. Do the same techniques apply to stretch fabrics?
They do. It depends on the knit and the style you choose. For in-depth on fitting knits, we include fitting knit pants in our book Knits for Real People.
Would you add length the same way for the back if needed?
If you lengthen the crotch or legs, yes! Pati
Is the pattern cut out at the largest size or your size?
I started with my size. Pati
