To be fair to Splatoon 3, the more weapons that already exist, the harder it is to come up with new ideas at all, much less ones that are as interesting as previous ideas. With that in mind, I think Spoon 3 did a good job.
Yeah many of my ideas for new weapons involve mixing different classes together into a new weapon. For example, Dual Splatanas with a dodge rolling charge slash that can change direction in between the roll & the charge. A splatling that fires lingering bubbles like bloblobber. A charger that can ricochet like line marker. A brella that charges like roller. (The inkling runs with the brella open and spreads ink on the ground/fires ink in front. Cannot launch shield.)
some of my favorite new weapons from 3 were also ones that felt less like hybrids, so it's clear they can do it. painbrush & dread are the biggest examples, they're not as large deviations from their classes' MOs that some new splatoon 2 weapons have, but they're distinct in the way that they can do things that other members of their classes can't. unfortunately both of them ended up with power problems (painbrush more than dred) :(

I envision a society on another continent where Inklings, Octolings and Salmonids live together in harmony and have adopted each others' cultures and customs. With a society of Salmonids and Cephalopods together, maybe we could get spoon weapons ;D.

It is kinda funny that Dualies were the fan-favorites and "Mascot Weapon" of 2, whereas Stringers get the front cover of the game and yet barely any fans or good kits to show for it. Always kinda funny watching games try to make bows have usage cases over guns, and I can respect 3 turning them into frag bomb weapons as their answer. I remember finding Brellas weird but REALLY cool, I used the Hero Brella quite often in 2 as a memento of its true debut in Propellor Land. LOVE the color scheme too.
When it comes to weapon design, I think Tent is seriously one of the most interesting things I've seen in a while - Shield characters almost always end up veing awful to fight against, yet with this game's unique speed and the shield being forced forwards, it ends up being a shield that is fun to both use and counter. So props to the devs there.
honestly, i feel as if splatoon 2 had the better new weapons, brellas are a unique frontline even though they're at a weak state right now and opens up opportunities to play more supportively than usual with teammates around. dualies are fine, just that the competition with shooters is tough but the dodge rolls are fun to play with
The video discussing how none of the new weapons in S3 took advantage of either Roll/Surge made me think... It wouldve been cool if we got a Charger that's gimmick was that it charged with a Squid Surge, or a Roller that had a faster flick coming out of squid roll. I'll explain how the mechanics would work below for nerds like me: The Charger could charge as the Squid Surge is in effect. When you pop out on top, the amount charged is dependant on how long you surged up the wall, so if you surge at the top, you likely won't have a full charge when you pop out, but if you surge from the base, you'll have a full charge when you pop out at the top. This could be a possible Goo-Tuber rework. The Roller is self explanitory. The idea is that the weapon is normally on the weaker end of rollers, but if you fling while you are rolling, the damage, range, and speed of the flick is multiplied. If you roll the roller out of a squid roll, your rolling speed is also temporarily doubled so that the roller's roll actually has a use.
I absolutely love your positive vibe in videos like these. It's really nice that you end it off by saying that both games were good and the devs did a good job.

An idea for videos I've been thinking about is giving each weapon class one kit with a particular special mainly to give more options for specials that had poor or uneven distribution (mainly Crab, Inkjet, Cooler, Booyah bomb, Zipcaster, Kraken, and maybe Chumps & missiles). For example, with crab: I came up with Sensor Crab Flingza, Mine crab Bamboo, Beakon Crab Explo (mainly bias, but it's probably my most wanted kit in the game), undercover with Sprinkler crab (mostly a meme kit but I didn't want to give Tent another busted kit and want Brella to use its inkjet kit instead of a crab kit), rapid pro with autobomb crab, Painbrush with Fizzy crab, and wellstring with Torpedo crab
The way that I see it is that Splatoon 2 had some higher highs like Ballpoint, Explo, The dualies, the brellas, etc. but it had lower lows like bloblober and clash. While splat 3 was (for the most part) more consistent quality with new weapons
What I don’t like about S3 is every time they release a new weapon it just feels weak. With S2 it always felt exciting about how strong a new weapon might be. Explo making these huge ass circles of paint, tent having a huge ass shield that was very difficult to break down, undercover gets to shoot through the damn brella itself…with S3 it’s like ok….splattershot nova, yippie. Oh a slosher that…sloshes twice…ok.
I feel like the reason splatoon 2 new weapons feel good is because they take something that sounds like it could be unbalanced and then give it drawbacks to actually make it work. "What if it's just a shooter but it also has access to a completely new movement option into enemy paint that also makes the main weapon stronger" sounds completely bonkers for a game like splatoon with so little health and such a premium placed on mobility, but between endlag, ink cost, low accuracy outside of turret shooting, they made it work. Likewise, "just give it a shield" had the potential to be completely broken (and admittedly has had some times where if it was made too good it could've completely shut down like half the weapons in the game) but they managed to tone it back.
I really feel like splatoon 2 had the better solo queue experience because just about anything could work unlike splatoon 3 which feels very watered down, like “Oh look, more vshots,” or “They have a cooler and we don’t, I guess we just lose.” Everything feels more restrictive in splatoon 3 and I find myself unwilling to play the more fun weapons just because they don’t work well with the same few weapons everyone plays.
6:25 This is also because we only had Crab meta before cooler meta, and there were no new main weapons with crab at the time. This is also probably because of the variety of specials in S3, meaning that the intersection of new weapons and meta specials isn't very large
Personally I don’t think you give stringers enough credit. Yes they can be AOE spammers but having the ability to be consistently aware and track others down without getting mulled over is a lot harder than you think. I think they have the same potential as blasters where there’s always the potential for directs but you sacrifice having to monitor your turf around you consistently. If they give well string a paint buff like they did regular tri stringer(due to the lack of painting subs and special) then I think it’ll help it a lot.
I think that Splatoon 2 added a lot of cool ones, but Splatoon 3 added the Splatana class, by far the coolest weapon class in the series. Just from that alone, i have to give S3 my vote.
I enjoyed splatoon 2 because it was slower, not because of the specials, but in terms of player movement speed and shot speed. It was more casual, splat 3 is faster and its hard to keep track of everything
I would’ve prefered that all weapons and hairstyles we see in splatoon 3 was just added to splatoon 2 as an update. Splatoon 3 is lacking that splatoonlike charm that 2 still had. Splat2 better.
I'm am honestly surprised that there is not a class based on spray paint. NOT the Aerosprays, but actual spray paint so they function like flamethrowers.

Why is there a category for balance and power? I get that weapons being extremely unusable or broken is an issue but when we’re talking about competitive viability, I don’t think this should be considered as it only really effects less that 5% of the player base
weapon idea: Zekko Brella it does 54.0 base shot damage. And shots are a bit slower the undercover brella. When the brella Opens it does AOE Damage of 52.0 With the brella using 1/3rd of the ink tank. after 4 seconds the brella launches and a bit slower the recycle brella and explodes on impact or after destroyed. kit is Tacticooler and fizz bomb
Splatoon 3, I haven't even seen the video yet but Zipcaster Squiffer is an automatic 25 points and I will fall into a deep dark depression if it doesn't return in S4. Y'know, assuming it does include kits.
At least both of the new weapon classes in Splatoon 3 were available in multiplayer at launch, unlike Splatoon 2, where Brellas had to be added later on.
As a person who went from playing dapples in s2 to stamper at the beginning of s3 ( one year break) to stringer to vdualies after crab meta, I can confidently say that splatanas and dualies were definitely favorites in their respective intro games from the devs and I could see stringers being meta at some point but I don’t think it’s happening here in s3. Ps. Give kraken to vdualies.
Didn’t watch the vid yet, but I think splatoon 2 had better weapons. Dualies and Brellas were very unique, where as splatoon 3’s weapons were (imo) less unique. Splatanas are weird mid-range brushes, and stringers are aoe chargers (except reef-lux)
I think the way you describe splatanas and stringers really dumbs them down in a way that isn't that accurate to either classes functionally. Splatanas aren't even similar to brushes in most aspects, the only thing that would even be remotely close between the two would be the up close horizontal overlap potentially being inspired by s1 brush overlap, and that feature isn't even in the game anymore. Splatanas are more like if you took a charger and turned it into an anime sword, and even then I wouldn't say that's accurate. The horizontal and charged modes allow you to have more complicated plays, and the lunges allow for mix ups in fights a lot (especially for decav). They play way differently from brushes completely, and are uniquely different from most weapons in complexity and playstyle. As for stringers, while they do have a lot more in common with chargers, aren't completely just the same as them. Stringers have more chances to actually use partials (and sometimes tap shots) for combat compared to most chargers (unless you're bamboo), and the different firing angles based on jumping lets you adapt to a situation to either hit behind cover or confirm a kill based on if people are in kid or squid form. They're much more complicated to learn, but they give the user more ways to play in much closer ranges compared to chargers. Of course, dualies and brellas are very unique as well, with dualie rolls allowing for mix ups in combat and brella's shields to give the user more survivability and more options to get in, but to say that splatanas and stringers aren't as unique is not that accurate (imo), and really undermines how creative and complex they are as weapon classes.
Splatana’s share around 0 mechanics with brushes nor are they similar in anyway.Stringers litterly only share charging and a one shot with chargers that’s it their play style,gimmicks and options are unique to their separate class.Also the only class that’s similar to brushes are rollers so idk even know where you got “weird midline brushes” from.
@@unluckify1 the reason I called them midline brushes is because their play style is a bit strange to me. They can either hit people at longer range, or go in and attack people in close range. (Similar to brushes) I just think their playstyle is a little strange.
I hope Splatoon 4 doesn’t add any more Weapon classes, and pulls a Splatoon 2 in terms of Main Weapon design. Expanding on abilities and mechanics is sorta what really pulls a fun weapon together. Meanwhile, I hope they keep the meta design of Splatoon 3.

I'm gonna be a bummer despite dualies being my favourite class but 4 out of 5 of them are quite literally shooters with a roll. Glooga (before its range buff) was quite literally just a 52 that had to roll before it could be a 52, Dualie Squelchers are quite literally a shooter turned into a dualie (and while cool, it was added to the game WITHOUT the slide gimmick reminder, so it just became stationary Dual Squelcher post roll), even regular dualies become a slightly longer ranged 30 damage splash'o'matic after a roll. It's great that S2 put in legwork to make them more distinct eventually but I cannot in good faith agree that they're “original” when I was there for their original release states. Tl;dr Brellas carried that point HARD (obviously)
"shooters with a roll" is a distinct concept though, that's kind of like saying that brushes are just fast rollers. like yes they are similar classes and tend to have similar strengths as a result, but having a dodge roll is a big changeup. it changes the decisions you have to make and the mechanics you engage with, which imo is what makes a class distinct, not its raw stats or role.

Why is there a category for balance and power? I get that weapons being extremely unusable or broken is an issue but when we’re talking about competitive viability, I don’t think this should be considered as it only really effects less that 5% of the player base
weapon idea: Zekko Brella it does 54.0 base shot damage. And shots are a bit slower the undercover brella. When the brella Opens it does AOE Damage of 52.0 With the brella using 1/3rd of the ink tank. after 4 seconds the brella launches and a bit slower the recycle brella and explodes on impact or after destroyed. kit is Tacticooler and fizz bomb

Splatoon 3, I haven't even seen the video yet but Zipcaster Squiffer is an automatic 25 points and I will fall into a deep dark depression if it doesn't return in S4. Y'know, assuming it does include kits.

At least both of the new weapon classes in Splatoon 3 were available in multiplayer at launch, unlike Splatoon 2, where Brellas had to be added later on.

As a person who went from playing dapples in s2 to stamper at the beginning of s3 ( one year break) to stringer to vdualies after crab meta, I can confidently say that splatanas and dualies were definitely favorites in their respective intro games from the devs and I could see stringers being meta at some point but I don’t think it’s happening here in s3. Ps. Give kraken to vdualies.
Didn’t watch the vid yet, but I think splatoon 2 had better weapons. Dualies and Brellas were very unique, where as splatoon 3’s weapons were (imo) less unique. Splatanas are weird mid-range brushes, and stringers are aoe chargers (except reef-lux)
I think the way you describe splatanas and stringers really dumbs them down in a way that isn't that accurate to either classes functionally.
Splatanas aren't even similar to brushes in most aspects, the only thing that would even be remotely close between the two would be the up close horizontal overlap potentially being inspired by s1 brush overlap, and that feature isn't even in the game anymore. Splatanas are more like if you took a charger and turned it into an anime sword, and even then I wouldn't say that's accurate. The horizontal and charged modes allow you to have more complicated plays, and the lunges allow for mix ups in fights a lot (especially for decav). They play way differently from brushes completely, and are uniquely different from most weapons in complexity and playstyle.
As for stringers, while they do have a lot more in common with chargers, aren't completely just the same as them. Stringers have more chances to actually use partials (and sometimes tap shots) for combat compared to most chargers (unless you're bamboo), and the different firing angles based on jumping lets you adapt to a situation to either hit behind cover or confirm a kill based on if people are in kid or squid form. They're much more complicated to learn, but they give the user more ways to play in much closer ranges compared to chargers.
Of course, dualies and brellas are very unique as well, with dualie rolls allowing for mix ups in combat and brella's shields to give the user more survivability and more options to get in, but to say that splatanas and stringers aren't as unique is not that accurate (imo), and really undermines how creative and complex they are as weapon classes.
Splatana’s share around 0 mechanics with brushes nor are they similar in anyway.Stringers litterly only share charging and a one shot with chargers that’s it their play style,gimmicks and options are unique to their separate class.Also the only class that’s similar to brushes are rollers so idk even know where you got “weird midline brushes” from.
@@unluckify1 the reason I called them midline brushes is because their play style is a bit strange to me. They can either hit people at longer range, or go in and attack people in close range. (Similar to brushes) I just think their playstyle is a little strange.

I hope Splatoon 4 doesn’t add any more Weapon classes, and pulls a Splatoon 2 in terms of Main Weapon design. Expanding on abilities and mechanics is sorta what really pulls a fun weapon together. Meanwhile, I hope they keep the meta design of Splatoon 3.
In your honest opinion, which S3 meta do you think was better (no specific factor), the Crab/Splash meta, or the Tacticooler/Pencil meta!
In terms of weapons S3 are better with some of the new weapon but for kits Splatoon 2 are better in my opinion.

Undercover meta when???
I'm gonna be a bummer despite dualies being my favourite class but 4 out of 5 of them are quite literally shooters with a roll. Glooga (before its range buff) was quite literally just a 52 that had to roll before it could be a 52, Dualie Squelchers are quite literally a shooter turned into a dualie (and while cool, it was added to the game WITHOUT the slide gimmick reminder, so it just became stationary Dual Squelcher post roll), even regular dualies become a slightly longer ranged 30 damage splash'o'matic after a roll. It's great that S2 put in legwork to make them more distinct eventually but I cannot in good faith agree that they're “original” when I was there for their original release states.

"shooters with a roll" is a distinct concept though, that's kind of like saying that brushes are just fast rollers. like yes they are similar classes and tend to have similar strengths as a result, but having a dodge roll is a big changeup. it changes the decisions you have to make and the mechanics you engage with, which imo is what makes a class distinct, not its raw stats or role.
