NOBODY in the US pinches nails when they do them. I've been in salons from one side of the country to the other, North and south. ... notta single technician pinched them. ....they also always ALWAYS make the tips so thick that it's just stupid 😐 we have to do it ourselves if we want this effect in the states. Thank you so so much for sharing your trade knowledge with us all! You're an angel in the RUclips beauty community Kirsty!
Thanks for this, we weren't trained to pinch at college (South Australia), it's not in the qualifying curriculum & I always found the nail style they taught too big, flat, bulky & shovel-like. I bought myself a pinching tool after seeing it here previously & learning how it made the shape stronger. I took the tool to college on my next unit, only using the cuticle end as I hadn't been trained to pinch & my lecturer (10 years professional) asked to see it. When I asked if she would teach me to use the pinch end, she said it was totally unnecessary & revealed that she had never even seen a pinching tool before mine. I paid thousands of dollars to qualify correctly & safely from professionals & I often learn more here than I did at college.
LOL I will have the post office to see if we have a good night at work I love the way home and I will have a good day at work babe love your pictures you doing tonight and tomorrow morning girl how much is it for you if you need to talk about the medicine for the new one and I will have to check on my mom if that's what I thought too I think it's the best way you could get me in my life only one who has been a while since I've had to take the day too so I can take
I love how you demonstrated with the paper to show how pinching strengthens the nail. I couldn't really get it till you used that demonstration. Thanks.
I’m literally the ONLY one around where I live that pinches nails. No one has ever seen or even heard of it... this is crazy to me! And ladies r scared at first until they see that it doesn’t hurt and it makes for such a slimmer nail. I’m thinking, don’t these other ladies (nail technicians in my area) watch Kirsty Meakin? I saw it first with you and WOWZERS, what a gorgeous difference it does make. Not to mention like you said , the strength it adds. I can’t imagine NOT pinching now. I don’t know why they don’t cover it in the licensing courses, not here in South Florida, anyway. I couldn’t even find a pinching tool anywhere around here in the beauty shops. I had to order mine from the UK on eBay and wait forever for it to come. I tried it on myself first on was like, that’s it! No going back now... this is BOMB! When I hear people say they don’t want acrylic bc they are too bulky I say, let me have a go and I promise they win be bulky at all. I think gel is more bulky looking. I’m just partial to acrylic bc I think there’s so much more you can do art wise with it rather than gel. Gel does have it’s pros but I’m an acrylic lover down to my core! It’s like in my blood Lol I find doing nails so relaxing, weird I know. I’m weird. But for me it’s like painting or knitting or other things people do to relax. It just calms me.... and makes me excited , too sometimes 😜 Like when I can’t wait to try a new design or technique. I wish I had about half a dozen pairs of my own hands to constantly be practicing on. I see you trying things in models that you’ve never done and I’m too afraid to do that! Kudos to you, you’re fearless! Confidence helps, too, I think. I haven’t been in this industry very long at all, so perhaps I will become more confident and bold with time and practice. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPER TUTORIALS, I’d be doing basic, boring sets and lost without you!
Jessica Taylor i find doing nails so relaxing as well. like an outage for all my stress, anxiety and whatnot. so im just as weird as you dear, probably weirder haha!!
The first and last time I ever went to a salon for nails...they didn't even pinch. When I saw you doing this I was like "what is this? They didn't do this to me." (my nails don't have a good C curve, they are nearly flat, so it would definitely be necessary) Also when it was time I decided I didn't want it anymore, they violently shoved a metal rod between them and PAINFULLY popped them off! It was so painful I was crying. Then, I tried to do gel nails on my own without much knowledge and that was a bad idea too because I really damaged a nail badly. Never went to fake nails again and just fix up my real ones, with plenty of cuticle oil and garlic. They are real nice now, but I find it intriguing to watch you work. The way you work is how it is SUPPOSED to be done, and from my experience in an American salon, and plenty of other experiences from what I hear as well, they don't put as much work into it as you do. You are amazing.
This is something they know nothing about in the states. They need to be trained on it. Thanks for the video! Your work is amazing, best I've seen in years
I got the brilliant idea from somebody on RUclips to use a pair of needle-nose pliers! So I went and bought myself a cute craft fair and I have to tell you it works amazing! I don't use it on my clients however because I am shy to bring it out LOL but there's a couple that know about it and love me using it LOL. Also I do have all of the best pictures. Those are what are used for typical client, along with the tip pinch technique.however most of my clients don't get long enough now to these detect pinched anyways. Unfortunately. That's always love you videos personality and your designs.
Thank you so much for explaining this technique, when you explain it like that especially with the paper, it makes so much sense. I love your tutorials & I'm so pleased I found your posts. Well done Kirsty, you're a great teacher. xx ❤️💅😍
Thank you for explaining this I have been waiting for this video now I understand better great work Kirstie love your work, you have really helped me with a lot of the "new" techniques as I learnt nearly 30 yrs ago xo
Thank you so much! I appreciate this information, I searched your videos a while back trying to find a video like this, so glad you finally uploaded one ^^
Me encantan tus creaciones..no entiendo el inglés pero siendo visual, puedo captar lo que enseñas..mil gracias por compartir hermosa.. Bendiciones 😘🙏😉 Me encantaría lo hicieras en español😊👑😘
Hiya! Amazing work. I like the way you explain. Thank you so much. Also very impressed with the nail art on your nail at the moment in this video. Please show us how you did it .Thanks xxx. Love you..
Very helpful. I had been thinking my sidewalls are too thick, so I slimmed them, but then they were so weak, so I'm guessing proper pinching is a better solution. Loved this thanks Kirsty. I like pinching, but I know some of my clients at the time didn't like it even though I explained that it wouldn't harm there Nails. Can I ask you I've seen NTs use pinching clamps and clips are these any better than the pinching tool? x Another question, how do you deal with clients or do you have clients with uneven nails/fingers? x I also wondered if you could do a tutorial on how best to get better with timing on doing a full set of acrylics? I'm still struggling not only on myself but others too and can not get a set done in under 3 hours - don't know if it's because I'm a perfectionist or if I'm doing something wrong. x
Clare Hanson It takes me 2 hours to do a full set and simple design. The timing really puts me off! Clients are so use to NSS and their full set times of 45 minutes. It drives me mental when they ask why it takes so long!

Thank you for making this video! I have REALLY missed watching you sculpt nails. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy watching your nail art but watching you sculpt nails is relaxing and art all in it's self!!!
do you pinch when a client has flat nails and no natural c curve at all ? I got 2 completely flat nails(problem nails!) that don't take well at all to being pinched any pinching on the 2 makes the product separate from the natural nail :(
omg this is the answer i've been looking for.....ive always wondered why my nails could never look as slim as the pictures i see on instagram!! Ive always hated how 'wide' my nails looked when done, but i don't have big or fat nails..
Hello from Denmark! Question: Does pinching only apply when doing "free hands" sculpting, or would anyone recommend doing this, if I were to try doing (my first ever!) acrylic nails with premade tips?? And thank you very much for all of these amazing and useful videos! You're lovely! 😍🦄
I have a question. do you do that only with acrylic or also at gel? and can you make a video about the various file attributes of the electric file that seems like very interesting. Greetings from Gerda from Netherlands
I am not familiar with pinching and just now, as you are a great mentor, I see how important it it! I would like if you did more videos on this like, what other tools can be used for that, I have a set of dotting tools that can be used, but I haven’t seen them being used that way. Also, is it possible to give a c curve to dipping powder users, and how about gel? love you❤️
Hello Kirsty. Quick question. Should I pinch a square tipped nail? I don't want a c curve but still want a strong edge. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks Kirsty for the excellent explanation on pinching! I was never told or taught to pinch when I was in school. I wonder how long it has been around or taught??
She's done videos on pinching gel before, it's a bit trickier I imagine. .... the videos I'm thinking of are a year or two old tho. ...I've been subscribed to this channel since before she was even the one on here doing it, there was this other lady years ago, gemma lambert ...anyway look through the older videos and there should be a few gel nail videos that'll help you
Hey Kirsty, any chance you can do a nail video on how to fit a form on a natural nail that has a c curve. I struggled today fitting the forms for that type of nail.
I have a pretty dramatic c-curve to my natural nail already. If someone were using forms that continued my c-curve beyond the free edge of my nail, would it still need to be pinched?
Kirsty, I appreciate you taking time to do this video; it's a good reminder of how to pinch properly. I really like that completed thumb nail. Did you post that video already, or is it yet to come? I wish you and Adam a great weekend. xx
growlingcheetah me too! I hope everything is okay with her and the crew, because it seems like they've out out far fewer videos than usual, lately. I miss watching Kirsty's artistry and listening to her and Adam sass each other.
Hi, everything is great here. We're putting out the same amount of videos as usual, 3 a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you aren't seeing our videos give that bell a click and it will notify you every time we make an upload! 😀
Me too, I used to watch Gemma Lambert, but I do prefer Kirsty, she explains how and more importantly why? I have learnt so much on here, keep em coming .kirsty x
If you were to give the form a spine or something that you fold it down the middle, but you don't stick them together, like a under V curve instead of an under C curve under the acrylic nail, and then you have a normal round top, is that possible?? Idk if im explaining correctly, haha!
Kirsty Meakin Naio Nails Since I've no professional educators that teach forms where I am located (that I'm aware if in any case), I watch several different vids to educate myself. Some are taught and told not to pinch as it can damage the nail if not done properly. This may worry some due to insurance!!! Xxxx thanks though it was a great demo xxx wish I could add you on fb, it says you have far too maby friends xxxx😂😂😂
when you say collapse the side's, do you mean that the acrylic will end up leaving a line of acrylic above the pinching tool because it wasn't set enough? @#KirstyMeakin
Hola!!! Me gusta muchísimo tu canal , solo aprendo mirando como trabajas pero me gustaría que colocaste subtitulos en español! Así no me pierdo nada!! Saludos

What brushes, brands, sizes, etc do you use? I live in the US & I'm new to the nail world. I am currently using an alpha and sometimes a pana brand brush. I find the alpha to be too soft and like limp and the pana to be too stiff. Any recommendations and where I could purchase would be soooo helpful. I'm not certified, yet so that makes it difficult to get my hands on quality products, too. Ugh 😑
One problem i have is not working so quickly (im new to doing my own acrylics and you are 1 of the 1s who taught me everything!) But then its dry in some spots and wet ontop and i sqoosh the nail lol. Gotta just learn to skill it lol getting better every time tho
literally the best pinching video I've ever seen. and having wider nail beds I'm religious about pinching my nails. techs think I'm crazy cause I request it and usually mess them up by squishing my sidewalls and being in a rush. I learned acrylics in school and remember briefly going over the technique but honeslty we didn't even have to do it to pass exams 😞 thanks so much for this content, sooo refreshing to see someone else who loves it!
Ojala pudieras crear un diseño mexicano para estas fechas ya que son los festejos en México y también ojalá pudieras hacer tus vídeos doblados en español ya que me encanta tu trabajo y te admiro mucho saludos desde Camargo Chihuahua 😘😍
Is there anyway to correct a DIP powder nail that has already set in which you had forgot to pinch this one fingernail out of entire set without having to Remove all product and start way from beginning again?! Ughh been looking everywhere online and so far haven’t found a single video or article or even discussion on this scenario! Please share your expert advice if can think Of anything
Great tutorial! I have always had trouble with pinching. This helped a lot.
LongHairPrettyNails the two of you are my favs!!!!
Thank f**k!! Finally someone who knows what I have been trying to describe to the nail technicians for the last 20years!
Same...each time I ask if they'll pinch for me they look at me like I'm a nut job! So frustrating!!

Tristan Smith I'm a nail tech in the US who has been pinching nails for YEARS. We exist lol
Tristan Smith 💯 % agree with you. And if you ask them they look at you like you have here eyes 🙄
Not only that but most of them do strange things like filling the wrong way
Ya i've had my nails done by lots of technicians NEVER had mine pinched ever. Explains all the lifting problems i have i think.
Not true ive been to many in the us that pinch u have to find the right nail tech. They r hard to find

Who else wishes they could get their nails done by her?
I’ve been settling for 8 whole years🥺🥺🥺 but watching gives me satisfaction anyone else wish that was Faye? 😂😂😂

I have clients from the states who works over here in middle east. They were all amazed to see me pinching their nails.
This is amazing! I've been getting my nails done for 16 years and I've NEVER had my nails pinched! Thank you for the insight!
It's all about the foundation and the structure of it! I'm learning a lot thank you Kirsty!! I love the metaphor example with the paper.
I met Kirsty yesterday in work!! She is so lovely❤️ Thank you for taking the time speak to me 🙈❤️
You are the nail teacher I cannot afford. Learnt and learning so much from your videos
LOVE your teaching tutorials!
Missed them! Even though I watch

Great instructional vid..... Gotta say LOVIN your hair ..... the colour is fab on you
I just received my pinching tool. Sooo
Excited!!!
Thanks so much for making this video, I always wondered why some people pinched and others didn't. Love your videos 💖💜

This makes a lot more sense. Thank you, Kristy!
Thank you so much for this tutorial Kirsty! I have fat thumbs and middle fingers so pinching should work wonders.
Oh my god, ur teaching method is so wonderful u explain everything in such wonderful detail!!! Lüv it!!!🦄🦄🦄💅💅💅😍😍😍🖐😊🖐👍👍👍👍👍🦄🦄🦄
My Fairy Nail Godmother. She knows exactly what I need to see when I need to see it💞💞💞 thanks lovely
Hiya! Amazing work. I like the way you explain. Thank you so much. Also very impressed with the nail art on your nail at the moment in this video. Please show us how you did it .Thanks xxx. Love you..
Thanks. Very useful. Still love Kirsty's tutorials. Informative but still entertaining. ❤
Such a great educator
I really love your videos.
I'd love to know the technique for pinching polygel nails!
Great explanation. I haven't heard it explained like this before. Loved it. TY :)
Very helpful. I had been thinking my sidewalls are too thick, so I slimmed them, but then they were so weak, so I'm guessing proper pinching is a better solution. When I remember more than a decade ago when shorter square pink and whites was just the be all end all, I can't recall seeing pinching ever. I would think that for the longer nail trend now and the new variety of shapes pinching would be much more obvious and necessary.
Loved this thanks Kirsty. I like pinching, but I know some of my clients at the time didn't like it even though I explained that it wouldn't harm there Nails.
Have you watched Susie on NailCareerEducation here on RUclips? She has a vedio that might help you with your time.
Practise will eventually increase your time, however, not every thing quick produces a good standard, and great nails done properly is a first priority always, so carry on doing what your doing x
Its because your a professional anything under an hour isnt good or ok. When u take your time and do it the way its suppose to be done the nails last a good 4 or 5 weeks before u need a refill
Brilliant 😃 told me everything I wanted to know thanks Kirsty 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi Kirsty!!! I love your channel, i learn so much and love your designs. Would you perhaps do a video on how to apply forms?
Thank you for making this video! I have REALLY missed watching you sculpt nails. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy watching your nail art but watching you sculpt nails is relaxing and art all in it's self!!!

That c-curve gave me chills! Beautiful ❤❤
Love it! ThAnks again!! Question...
How thick should the acrylic nails be?
Thanks!! I learn a lot!! 👍👍
I have a question.
do you do that only with acrylic or also at gel?
and can you make a video about the various file attributes of the electric file that seems like very interesting.

Are naio going to restock on the nail pinching tools? Would love to give this a try
Hiiii! Awesome video! Could you please tell me what brush you’re using? I’m really struggling to find a hood brush
Awesome! Are the products that she uses all from naio nails?
Hello Kirsty. Quick question. Should I pinch a square tipped nail? I don't want a c curve but still want a strong edge. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks Kirsty for the excellent explanation on pinching! I was never told or taught to pinch when I was in school. I wonder how long it has been around or taught??
would love to see one about pinching gel!
Thank you for a very informative video Kirsty, now i know where i'm going wrong 😊
will kirsti be showing us how she did this clients thumbnail? it looks like foil and transparent/glass gels used
Is there a way ro do this with dip?? I find that the bond flattens out my nails
woud you be so sweet as to post or video more gel builds and how to pinch them? Thankyou and love your videos ! Coming from Kamloops BC Canada!!
love ur vids ALWAYS! this one was very informative! love u kirstie! keep up the Amazing work!
Is it the same process for using gel Kirsty? xXx
Cure gel nail for 30 sec then pinch for a while and cure completely 90 sec. works for me :)
She's done videos on pinching gel before, it's a bit trickier I imagine. .... the videos I'm thinking of are a year or two old tho. ...I've been subscribed to this channel since before she was even the one on here doing it, there was this other lady years ago, gemma lambert ...anyway look through the older videos and there should be a few gel nail videos that'll help you
you pinch right after you cure them while they are still warmish, she's pinched in a gel nail video before

Katie Mills she pinched with tips also
WE ALL NEED A DEMO OF THAT NAIL KIRSTY!

What about when you use tips? Can those be pinched after acrylic application or do you do it before?
And what if it's a gel nail? :D do you pinch after curing for a few seconds and then repeat a few times?
This may have been asked before so I apologize if it has, can you use the pinching tool on gel nails?
Love this video
If you were to give the form a spine or something that you fold it down the middle, but you don't stick them together, like a under V curve instead of an under C curve under the acrylic nail, and then you have a normal round top, is that possible?? Idk if im explaining correctly, haha!
Could you do more gel nails debating on getting gel nails done or doing it myself.

I have watched Naio Nail for years and have been using pinching tools on my nails.
This has very good advice! X
What if the c curve is causing pain in the sides like a ingrown feeling are they just too tight ?
Could we apply pinching for stiletto nails as well? Thanks so much
Great video.
when you say collapse the side's, do you mean that the acrylic will end up leaving a line of acrylic above the pinching tool because it wasn't set enough? @#KirstyMeakin
So can you show us you doing a full set with the pinching method . Like how you do each nail and pinch
Hola!!! Me gusta muchísimo tu canal , solo aprendo mirando como trabajas pero me gustaría que colocaste subtitulos en español! Así no me pierdo nada!! Saludos

If you use tips instead of a form, do you still need to pinch?
I love watching you i have learned so much from you
love the explanation
:)
Can you also pinch tips or is just for forms?
You can pinch 'squeeze' the tip before applying it to the nail
I don’t know if anyone asks this question already. I am a newbie nail tech, do I pinch if I use tip extension!?
Thank you
I wouldn't recommend because the tip is hard u could risk it breaking. But I would try it in a practice nail before you try it on a client
You can pinch with tips but some tips arent strong enough to do it with
What brushes, brands, sizes, etc do you use? I live in the US & I'm new to the nail world. I am currently using an alpha and sometimes a pana brand brush. I find the alpha to be too soft and like limp and the pana to be too stiff. Any recommendations and where I could purchase would be soooo helpful. I'm not certified, yet so that makes it difficult to get my hands on quality products, too. Ugh 😑
So if I naturally have flat nails will them being pinched into a c curve cause any pain?
Like over time
One problem i have is not working so quickly (im new to doing my own acrylics and you are 1 of the 1s who taught me everything!) But then its dry in some spots and wet ontop and i sqoosh the nail lol. Gotta just learn to skill it lol getting better every time tho
Please do video on pinching gel nails
amazing! thank you so much for this video!!!!
Question, can you pinch a gel sculpted nail, and if you can how do you do it?
is pinching also used in gel nails or only in acrylic nails??
literally the best pinching video I've ever seen. and having wider nail beds I'm religious about pinching my nails. techs think I'm crazy cause I request it and usually mess them up by squishing my sidewalls and being in a rush. I learned acrylics in school and remember briefly going over the technique but honeslty we didn't even have to do it to pass exams 😞 thanks so much for this content, sooo refreshing to see someone else who loves it!
I wish you did more videos about gel. I would like to know how to pinch gel nails
Please share your expert advice if can think
Of anything
Is there a tutorial for your nail design you're wearing in this video? Is it a foil nail design?
