  • PART 9 of 10 - I've been documenting how to reupholster a wingback chair--everything from tearing it down, adding webbing, springs, and more! In this video, I show you how I finished off the back of the seat, the outside wings, and the outside arms. I ran out of fabric so I'll have to add just one more video to this series: finishing the cushion, legs, and dust cover! Subscribe to stay posted on the finally of this wingback chair makeover! :) A big thanks to Arrow Fastener for sponsoring this video and allowing me to use their T50 upholstery stapler!

    You did a great job. I been doing upholstery since I was 9 years old. My mother did it out of our house when I was a kid. I love re-purposing furniture and giving it new life. If you carefully remove the old fabric, mark it and you can use it as a pattern for the new fabric.

    • @ThriftDiving
      @ThriftDiving  5 лет назад +4

      Wow, since you were 9! That's awesome! I can just imagine the quality of your pieces. You're right--keeping the old pieces is perfect for making new pieces! I chose not to keep the old pieces because I wanted to learn how to make the cuts from scratch. WHAT was I thinking?! :)

    Wow! I watched all of the videos in this series, and you are superwoman. I applaud your determination and time you spent making this chair look AMAZING. Your instructor was so nice and gave so much knowledge. It was apparent that both you and he we're decicated and passionate about this project. The fact that you tore the chair down completely, definitely showed your commitment and giving 100% to making that chair look as great as you made it look. So inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing this experience, I look forward to video #10 and the completed project.

    That chair has or had quality construction. Done a bunch of them over the years. Now you know how hard or time consuming it is to reupholster one. And how only a real professional can make one that stands the test of time and has lines that one will take awe of.

    I was just thinking the very thing you said at about 12.45 - there is ton of video - about 3 whole sessions - about removing all the old fabric and padding etc and then this one video which is the MOST IMPORTANT PART- finishing the back and arms. Now I must say you did an absolutely FANTASTIC JOB. Honestly I cant believe it, but I do wish these final steps were done slower not on high speed -and showed the same amount of detail that was shown in taking it all apart.
    Funny thing is that Im refinishing a very different kind of chair (where seat is separate from the short back, so there are no springs, no sewing - and it is MUCH easier). I came on line just to find out how to build up and make the front edge softer so you dont feel the wood at back of knees when I found this series.
    I NEVER would have watched this had I known it would be so many installments because now I've given the entire evening over to watching video rather than covering the seat!!! But it seems once into it - you want to see it thro to the end. I loved the detail, which will help me with a different chair I will do in future (although this series likely has scared me away from that level of commitment).
    Anyway - Im amazed and proud of you for finishing the chair on your own. I think most would have put it in garage and not finished it without the help of the teacher. Ive had 2 chairs to cover for 10 YEARS and the new fabrics have been draped over and pinned on. You did a great job and I hope you are proud of yourself!!!

    Girl, you are doing a great job. I have installed many yards of carpet in houses, boats , ect. You will find that on your next project you will complete it in half the time. A little tip on your fabric, mart a direction on the back with an arrow as you unroll. This will help you keep the grain or nap in the same direction. Again great job I wish you could have worked with me. You just get it.

    I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this series! I’ve recently scored a $6.99 wingback chair at the thrift store. It was $10.00 but I asked for a discount because it needed a slight repair that I was sure my husband/ son and I could handle. I learned a lot from you and can’t wait to find the perfect fabric to get started. And guess what? It reclines too! Needless to say, I’m so excited! Thanks for the info!!!
