The classes were amaaaazing! And get this--i even texted the pics to the upholstery teacher! Lol. He said he liked them and that he is still offering classes. I'm going to sign back up to learn more techniques!
"Couple of years ago"!!! How has it been that long since your upholstery class videos? These chairs turned out beautiful, you really do have a good eye for pieces and colours 👍
I know, right?!?? That's how long it has been, and that damn wingback chair still isn't done! 😂 I will finish it, though. Maybe even try to make an ottoman for it, too. I can't believe I have been so slow with it. Lol
I was telling someone else here in the comments that I'll definitely finish! I think now that I'm in the mood to reupholster (and the weather is colder), I will focus on it. Thanks so much!!
Absolutely gorgeous! Purple is my favorite color, and this fabric is stunning. I was getting anxious during the button tufting section - my goodness, that looks so hard! Beautiful job!
Serena, you already know I pretty much enjoy all your projects. This purple velvet is off da hook!! And to be filling it while wearing Rec Buffalo Check PJ's made the color combo in screen pop!! And once all the brass tacks went back in was the icing on da cake. Great job as always, Merry Christmas & a Blessed Holiday Season to you & your Family. Dirty Jersey out!!
Hey Mike!! Haha, I'm glad my PJs weren't distracting! I usually try not to capture myself with jammies on, but hey--when you gotta work, you gotta work, right?? So glad you liked the chairs!!
Incredible job! I bought 4 living room side/dining chairs that are no where near as detailed lol but I have been too intimidated to try it. I fell in love with the shape. I just don’t understand how the back stays tucked in at the seat. Love to see detail on that
A few years ago I got an entire couch like that except I didn't do all the pieces in the back I just one big piece of material and pop through the buttons and it turned out wonderful I like the wrinkles and it that was back in a time where we didn't have these fancy little crayon things that are put on the furniture legs and my grandmother taught me how to use crayon and do that and hit it with a blow dryer or heat gun or whatever and man it does the same job and they look absolutely marvelous by the way those are beautiful chairs I would pamper myself to sitting in such luxury
Beautifully done. They would look beautiful with one on each side of the buffet. Used for important holiday dinner guests. Or, with a small table as a breakfast area in your master bedroom. That course you took on upholstery really must have been top notch. Tufted chairs are a major undertaking. You get five stars in my book. Thanks for sharing.
Just an FYI... You can literally make any size covered buttons yourself, and it won't cost you a penny. You don't even need a button! Grab a relatively sturdy piece of cardboard and trace a circle on it in the size that you want your covered button to be. Cut that circle out (you can even sand the cardboard circle edges to be sure its perfectly round). Using an awl, or ice pick, or anything sharp and pointed, put your button holes in the cardboard where you want them (either two or four holes). I put a small piece of wood on my table (or floor) and just use a light hit of a hammer on an awl to punch the holes where I want them. Super simple! Place your cardboard button on the fabric of your choice (fabric right side down). Typically, even a scrap of fabric will do. Draw a circle around the cardboard 1/4 to 1/2 inch larger than the cardboard circle, depending on how large it is. This can be "eyeballed" and hand drawn. Remove the cardboard and hand baste your circle of fabric loosely around the outside edge of the circle, but don't knot it or remove the needle. Leave a few inches at the end to be able to pull the thread tight. Place your cardboard button in the center of your fabric circle and pull the thread so that the stitches close around the "button" you created. Make a stitch or two in the back of the new button cover and knot the thread. If you want a "puffy button," add some "stuffing" under the cardboard button before pulling your thread tight around it. I've been using this method for years, and the covered buttons are fool proof, free, and literally take a couple minutes each! No more waiting or paying for someone else to do! Give it a try! Your chairs look great, by the way! I'm about to do the same for some chairs I thrifted on facebook market place, which was what brought me to this video. Great tips to follow... thank you for sharing!
Wow! the chairs turned out beautifully. I have the same project started but got scared and stopped. You have explained and demonstrated the process so clearly. You have given me confidence to go back in! Thanks. Love your channel.
They look professionally made! As some others have also mentioned, it was fun watching your video and EXTREMELY educational! Inspirational and interesting to learn of the techniques; your deconstruction process was very well thought out. Nicely done! 👍👍🤗🤗
Dear Serena, have a lovely Christmas. Thanks for your energy, for be so honest, for give great tips, oh I am really so happy to find you this year. Cheers Serena🎉🎁🌺🎇🌷🎄🌈🍾🍷
Serena, they're beautiful. If you need a dust cover for underneath, it's the same as landscape fabric, something you probably already have in the garage (and it's a lot cheaper than buying it in the fabric stores).
Ahhhh, yes! I totally forgot that part! I wasn't even thinking about the dust cover since it didn't already have one. I might have some left over from the previous chair! Thanks, Kay!!
Thank you, Nikkie!! Over the years I moved my favorite color palette from turquoise (which I still love, though) to shades of purple. It just feels soooo good looking at it. LOL. Glad you like it!!
You are so welcome! I am still learning, too. Every project I do is a learning experience and I build onto what I already knew with new information. :) Thanks, Pau!
Is there anything you can't do?! Tremendous project...but your always are. Howard's Restor-a-Finish works miracles on wood finishes, especially when used with 0000 (super fine) steel wool.
Awww, thanks, Nora! I shock myself sometimes because I worry something won't work out, and then when it does, it feels like such an accomplishment. LOL. Glad you like them!!
Beautifully done! Thank you for the lesson. I have made many slipcovers but been intimidated by upholstery. "It has been done, it can be done!" Thank you. Merry Christmas🎄
Excellent video! I just thrifted a beautiful vintage chair, it's orange crushed velvet for now but she'll be getting a purple/black gothic dressing room makeover!
This came at a great time. A friend just gave me these same chairs. I was looking for a tutorial all over and couldn’t find anything. Thanks so much for sharing.
The fabric is drool-worthy, isn't it?! I have a huge Ethan Allen sofa that I picked up years ago from an estate sale for $100. I wonder how much fabric I would need to reupholster that with this fabric?!?!
The chairs turned out amazing (and I personally love the purple velvet fabric)! Thanks for showing the steps and tips that made it easier for you. If I ever decide that I have enough patience to tackle a project like this, I will refer to this video.
Tip for making a pattern from old chair fabric... Always add about 2-3 inches all around on the fabric that needs to be stapled down. It gives you some to grab on to during the pulling process 😉
Yes, definitely!! This chair actually had some cheaper fabric sewn onto the bottoms for pulling, which is what my upholstery teacher recommended (it's cheaper than using your expensive fabric). But I had forgotten to do it for the first chair. The second chair, was much easier! :) Great point!
Me, too!! I have so much fun working on them (when things turn out!). Plus, with the weather cold, it's a great indoors project. Thanks so much, Dishauna!
You did a phenomenal job ion those chairs. You remember all the things you learn in the upholstery class. I remember when you were in the class. Your mother is right not for kids. Those are grown up chairs you did Great in lining up the chair Tac nail heads. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Haha, "grown up" chairs! That reminds me of how my husband always asks me to buy "grown-up" snacks at the grocery store! Lol Thanks, Evelyn! Glad you liked them!
Love watching you work in your cute pajamas! You did a terrific job and should be so proud of yourself! I can't imagine trying to cut and piece all those small pieces together and keeping track of what goes where! I use to sew alot when I was younger but there's no way I would attempt this! ... Here's hoping you have a Merry Christmas and great New Year!😀💗🧤🧣🧦🤶🎅❄️⛸️👼☃️🎄🇨🇦
Gorgeous!!! I’m going through reupholstering videos…I have 2 chairs that I hope to tackle soon. Love the choice of fabric…the purple is stunning. Beautiful job.
Oh shoot, I forgot to include that, Liz! The fabric was a bit expensive because I bought it locally, whereas I later found that online it was cheaper at $30/yr. But for the fabric, let's say $150. And furniture tacks, which were about $20. My cost was higher because of the fabric, though. I'm still bummed about over-paying!
I’ve always found it easier to temporarily attach the fabric piece first (at least the top part of the chair) and then do the tufting on the buttons. Also, using pinking shears can help tp make sure the fabric does fray or unravel during the stretching part or in the future.
oh my goodness! they are gorgeous. yu dd a great job! i love the color. i have a velvet lavender chesterfield. i just love it. i wish i could get a chair in the color you used. but i find it's hard to get a rug that really goes with lavender. i'm on my third one. but i'll keep on trying. :)

Love. I wish i could do
This came out really good. I cant tell it's a DIY project. Looks like they were always that way. I guess that's the goal right? lol
Agreed. Total artisan.
wow, that class you took awhile ago really shows. Those look so nice.
The classes were amaaaazing! And get this--i even texted the pics to the upholstery teacher! Lol. He said he liked them and that he is still offering classes. I'm going to sign back up to learn more techniques!

This was so fun to watch. Would love to see more videos of old wing chair. Loved that series!
I was telling someone else here in the comments that I'll definitely finish! I think now that I'm in the mood to reupholster (and the weather is colder), I will focus on it. Thanks so much!!
I’ve never seen tufting this way before.
Only with one piece of fabric.
Looks beautiful!
Gorgeous chairs! Awesome job!
Thank you, Katherine!!
It is videos like this that helps me know my kids are normal. These are BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Whew! Yes, normal, although definitely destructive, even if not on purpose! Lol
Gorgeous color. The chairs turned out so beautiful😍
You did a fantastic job on those chairs, especially for a newbie! They looked store bought. Kudos to you!
You rocked those chairs! They are absolutely gorgeous and your tips were great, too.
fantastic work enjoyed the video!
I'm subscribed to CHEST'ER, he has amazing techniques when it comes to tufting. Great job!
WOW !!! FANTASTIC MAMA !!! 2 BEAUTIFUL NEW CHAIRS !!!! GOD BLESS YOU AND THE FAMILY....XXXOOO...
Absolutely gorgeous! Purple is my favorite color, and this fabric is stunning. I was getting anxious during the button tufting section - my goodness, that looks so hard! Beautiful job!
Me too, Brenda! I was like, "Oooh, shoot, please let this turn out!!!"

I love the way the chairs turned out! Great job 🎄☃️🎅🏼❄️

You are a champ. A project like this would make my brain explode!! Great job!! 👵
The chairs are beautiful. You did an excellent job.
They are BEAUTIFULLY done!
The color/material is gorgeous 💜
I tried reupholster a chair back in the 90s, it is Hard on the hands! The chairs look amazing 😄
They loook great!!! I think they look great in the dining room. They work with the wall color. And they look nice at the ends.

Thank you, Nikkie!! Over the years I moved my favorite color palette from turquoise (which I still love, though) to shades of purple. It just feels soooo good looking at it. LOL. Glad you like it!!
💓Love them & the colour is fantastic💓That colour goes with so many other colours to make a room pop💓
Excellent job! I learned a lot from this video. Thank you so much for putting all of this together and sharing all your tips with us. :)
You are so welcome! I am still learning, too. Every project I do is a learning experience and I build onto what I already knew with new information. :) Thanks, Pau!
Wow! I learned some valuable tips here. Especially about the buttons and all of the little pieces sewn together first. Who woulda thunk?
They turned out great! That they're upholstered in my fav color makes it even better. 💜
Mine too, Darnia! I used to really love turquoise, but shades of purple are amazing and make me happy. Thanks for watching!!
Serena, everything you do is always fabulous!
Is there anything you can't do?! Tremendous project...but your always are. Howard's Restor-a-Finish works miracles on wood finishes, especially when used with 0000 (super fine) steel wool.

I have chairs almost identical to those that need recovered and you’ve helped give me the encouragement I need to go for it!
Beautifully done! Thank you for the lesson. I have made many slipcovers but been intimidated by upholstery. "It has been done, it can be done!" Thank you. Merry Christmas🎄
They are so gorgeous sunshine. I love the colour you chose. Great tutorial indeed. 💜

You can see a scrap piece of fabric onto the bottom to give you leverage to pull it tight through the other side x

That's true! I tend to buy cream/white shad rugs so they'll go with nearly anything! Lol
They look fantastic. Well done
Your projects are amazing they give me so much inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing.
I read where you can take 1 part cooking oil and 1 part vinegar to repair scratches in wood furniture. I'm going to try that soon.
These are gorgeous and you did an excellent job. 👍
Those chairs are divine❣️
Those are STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much, Julie!!
