No, she's getting no kick of power! She's only tired of finding herself being lied to time and time again by the same person! Trying to hide the fact that he's broken the law not only once or twice but several times! Hiding his catch of illegal fish caught throughout the boat in many hiding spots! We need to replenish our stocks of depleted resources in our oceans if we want our future mokopuna to reap the same benefit of kaimoana we have had!
Wow, I can't believe how lenient the fines and penalties are in NZ. I know a guy in Australia who got caught with excessive abalone and copped an $80,000 fine.
Yeah our fishing les are ruthless. There was a boat in Exmouth that was seized and put on display with a note stated what they were charged for. If I can remember properly it was for being way over the bag limit on fish, squid and cray fish. Boat was seized and a total of $460,000 in fines dished out. I’m a bit surprised on how relaxed the fishing laws in NZ are. In saying that I’d love to fish in NZ. Such a rich ocean life.
I agree, we are way to lenient. We also have an situation were Maori can get a customary permit to take fish, grays etc. for a reason such as a burial, a gathering etc. and they can take way above the legal limit. It is totally wrong by my reckoning and then they complain that the fish stock is running low.
The pathetically low fines ; probably been the same for 40 years, is an incentive for these CRIMINALS to take the chance. It will probably take ANOTHER 40 years for the fast asleep Judiciary to WAKE UP.
He had prior convictions and that's all they did?! What a tiny slap on the wrist! He's going to back out there overfishing, harming the fish ppopulation thus ultimately fishing industry and tourism. His next haul will easily make up that measly fine. What an absolute joke. I would've laughed in their faces.
penalties must be made much more severe. NZ is going to end up with fishery stocks completely depleted between recreational rules abuse and commercial overfishing by foreign trawlers stripping the sea of all life
too lenient. they lied, several times, they had way more than the limit, they hid fish, they had undersized.... they should lose their boat and pay $5k fine for the captain, and $1500 each for the others.
Wow, they would have their Vessel, Truck confiscated, locked up, and heavily fined + loss of Fishing privileges here in GA-USA. Depending on the Judge, a prison sentence likely.
You can not expect compliance when there is no punishment dished out other than a slap with a wet bus ticket. These thieves are laughing all the way to the pub where they sell off the extras . the act has no teeth and this will continue until big fines are pushed and boats taken along with cars. for now it's a joke and the officers are laughed at how weak they are , lies are believed so the story is told around a few beers.
I wish we had game wardens like that here in Illinois..I call them about poachers over the limit, stuffing fish in bags, hiding them in coolers in the car and taking illegal sized fish.. unfortunately they rarely show up after placing a call, or they show up hours later.
Fines are far too lenient. No surprise those poachers keep repeating their offending. There won't be any snapper left at this rate. Sonia has the manner of an elementary school teacher giving young children a telling off for lying.
I apologize, but she sounds like she is talking to a 3 year old. He continuously lied to her, told her that he had fines from illegal fishing before. She shakes her finger at him, gives him a time out and then lets him go. I realize that they need to further investigate, but this guy could be long gone in the meantime. Slap the handcuffs on him, confiscate the fish and his boat. Let him sit in jail while the investigation is going on.
Same people, same BS excuses bro! Never allow them to keep entitlement if over the limit, that would mean they wasted their time and might be better incentive to stop them.
YOU ARE WE AND BEING SO EASY ON THEM THE ONES WHO RIP OFF THE FISH STOCKS ARE NOT GOING TO STOP UP THE FINES TO THE THOUSANDS AND STOP GIVING COMMUNITY SERVICE, HURTING THE POCKET IS THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE THE FISH
Snapper are overrated and over price, they're not that great, theres alot more fish thats a 100x better and tastie like Gurnard,Grouper,Tarakihi,Trevelly and so on......
I'm a fly fishing guide here in Oregon and I often give the days catch to people on the bank by the boat ramp I'm using. These guys are guilty as all get out but, I do just randomly walk up to strangers and offer them fish my clients don't actually want. It does happen maam.
Yes, it happens, but it if it will put you over the limit you're not allowed to accept the fish so it doesn't matter if someone gave them the fish (which was a bs story) or more likely they overfished.
that female police officer sounds like a primary school teacher. Just the way she talks reminds me of mine.
she is talking to the "I don't speak English "
She has to speak slowly to foreigners.
To make it clear.
Yeah they get a kick out of power over other people and then wat let them go?,FFS!!!

And a just and fair fine.
Abalone is a export product.

@@peterdykzeul3074 They aren't even natives so why do they get an exemption

Poaching fines are less than the price of fish from the store.
This lady is awesome, shes fun to listen to!
Shes a school teacher alright?? a dam good one haha!!😂🤣😂
Too lenient for a multiple offender. Should have taken his boat, car, all the fish, and a short jail term might be a deterrent.
$250 for that amount of fish over the limit? That is ridiculously cheap, it should have been 10Xs that amount!

Once over or under limits, confiscate the whole catch, higher fines.
Should have taken boat, car, gear and fish with life ban on fishing in nz. Rules to soft. No trailer lights aswell
At $250.00 each, hardly worth the effort !
Wow, they would have their Vessel, Truck confiscated, locked up, and heavily fined + loss of Fishing privileges here in GA-USA. Depending on the Judge, a prison sentence likely.
why weren't they arrested their car and boat seized? talk about a slap on the hand, bet your life these guys will do it again.
His name is Jonah Takalua from Tonga, he has his own TV series. 😅😂😅
In canada they can take your boat on the spot. Fines need to be more serious for these types of offenses
Poachers should spend a few months in jail!
7:46 Never hear anyone saying it like that Good we need more people like that
Damn it's like she talking to 3year Olds..
Only 250 for that much, im becoming a game warden in the states we would take the bout rods they go to jail and fines
She sounds like she is talking to a small child.
Only a fine? Should remove their license and ban for 2 years.
If someone gives you a fish , it is part of your limit and also part of their limit at least in Missouri and Tennessee USA
Throw the book at them.

Game wardens in Australia are way too SOFT on poachers , all there equipment n vehicles should be CONSFESCATED and jailed like in America!!!
I wish we had game wardens like that here in Illinois..I call them about poachers over the limit, stuffing fish in bags, hiding them in coolers in the car and taking illegal sized fish.. unfortunately they rarely show up after placing a call, or they show up hours later.
Liars, always same groups
Stop blurring their faces. You should show everyone what these people are like. 😊
Take their gear boat and truck
Not enough, very lite

The fish stock will run out unless your fines get realistic.
The NZ law makers should get tougher on these native conservationists..

Take All the fish aswell take boat and vehicle
Fishermen do give fish away

That random someone who gives away his catch is only doing so because someone has phoned him and told him the cops were at the ramp.
Show their faces, what right do they have to steal food from future generations?
Boat should have been confiscated !!
Should have taken the boat
