No, she's getting no kick of power! She's only tired of finding herself being lied to time and time again by the same person! Trying to hide the fact that he's broken the law not only once or twice but several times! Hiding his catch of illegal fish caught throughout the boat in many hiding spots! We need to replenish our stocks of depleted resources in our oceans if we want our future mokopuna to reap the same benefit of kaimoana we have had!

Wow, I can't believe how lenient the fines and penalties are in NZ. I know a guy in Australia who got caught with excessive abalone and copped an $80,000 fine.

Yeah our fishing les are ruthless. There was a boat in Exmouth that was seized and put on display with a note stated what they were charged for. If I can remember properly it was for being way over the bag limit on fish, squid and cray fish. Boat was seized and a total of $460,000 in fines dished out.
I’m a bit surprised on how relaxed the fishing laws in NZ are.
In saying that I’d love to fish in NZ. Such a rich ocean life.

I agree, we are way to lenient. We also have an situation were Maori can get a customary permit to take fish, grays etc. for a reason such as a burial, a gathering etc. and they can take way above the legal limit. It is totally wrong by my reckoning and then they complain that the fish stock is running low.

He had prior convictions and that's all they did?! What a tiny slap on the wrist! He's going to back out there overfishing, harming the fish ppopulation thus ultimately fishing industry and tourism. His next haul will easily make up that measly fine. What an absolute joke. I would've laughed in their faces.

penalties must be made much more severe. NZ is going to end up with fishery stocks completely depleted between recreational rules abuse and commercial overfishing by foreign trawlers stripping the sea of all life

too lenient. they lied, several times, they had way more than the limit, they hid fish, they had undersized.... they should lose their boat and pay $5k fine for the captain, and $1500 each for the others.

These thieves are laughing all the way to the pub where they sell off the extras . the act has no teeth and this will continue until big fines are pushed and boats taken along with cars. for now it's a joke and the officers are laughed at how weak they are , lies are believed so the story is told around a few beers.

She shakes her finger at him, gives him a time out and then lets him go. I realize that they need to further investigate, but this guy could be long gone in the meantime. Slap the handcuffs on him, confiscate the fish and his boat. Let him sit in jail while the investigation is going on.

I'm a fly fishing guide here in Oregon and I often give the days catch to people on the bank by the boat ramp I'm using. These guys are guilty as all get out but, I do just randomly walk up to strangers and offer them fish my clients don't actually want.
    It does happen maam.

    • @2011blueman

Yes, it happens, but it if it will put you over the limit you're not allowed to accept the fish so it doesn't matter if someone gave them the fish (which was a bs story) or more likely they overfished.
