- Went out into East Galveston Bay with the Solo Skiff and got some amazing trout bites with top water. All the fish of the morning were very healthy and good size.

no tides and you catching fish amazing
nice work ! that place is on fire
Minh Tran yah it was good fishing that day for sure!
Videos getting better each one, keep it up!
I've had one of those days; wound up changing the hook too and it helped
Awesome first day on that motor. I love the hunchback, amazing lure
Yah it really is. I have discovered that if there are bigger trout around it sparks their reaction bite where otherwise the dinks would get to your lure first.
Just got a Solo Skiff myself can't wait to get it out on the coastal water. 2 questions for you, Kagen. What gas do you use? and where is that fish cleaning station located? thank you for this great video
Yodaddi Jim I get ethanol free gas so I don’t have to worry about it gumming up the carb. The fish cleaning station isn’t public unfortunately.
As always 👍 thanks for sharing. I was thinking Ray... But it seemed to fast for that. Power Pole Up... I got a grin at one of your replies regarding the yak, ... I got my Solo and never looked back. I have owned boats since I was 12 years old and came so close to buying a kayak at the boat show, basically because I got caught up watching Yak video's. Now a few of the guys I was watching have Horse Power and NOT peddle power. I'm really glad I went with a 16 shallow water boat. Plus me on a Solo or Bote would be the proverbial Monkey F#@&ing a Football, Kinda Texas Size 😉 Keep'm comin and Tight Lines and Full Limits to Ya.! 🎣
I love those Falcon Rods!!
Good stuff man!!!! Those damn hooks!!
Sweet vid dude! It's hard to beat that Lews Lite on a Waterloo
Dr. Fishing thanks! Yah it really is
I was having the same issue so I eased up on the hook set and let them tire a little, after that none escaped
Those Falcon XG Rods are awesome for the money! Great video.
Good stuff!!
Im coming down mar 6th. Have two kayaks and a big pontoon boat. Share some tips and locations? My 13 year old is sooooo freaking excited.
You got me seriously looking at these solo skiff instead of the Hobie PA
Since I got my solo I have never looked back at wanting to use my outback. It’s an awesome machine!
@@KagenFishing so you're going to sell your hobie?
Great video of you fishing, just subscribed to keep watching you . I live in the Houston area and really enjoy fishing the jetty's and Marsh beds. 👍 Up bud
Glad to hear from a new viewer! Thanks for supporting the channel!
Great video! I recently bought a solo skiff and am trying to dial in where I want to put tackle, rods, etc. I was wondering if you could make a video on how you set yours up so I can get some ideas, thanks!
I think I could get a quick rigging video and how I organize my stuff out sometime this week. Currently im running a 21 inch Hobie Hrail on each side. The left has the 3 horizontal rod holders so they stay down and out of the way. On the right I have a Hrail to railblaza star port rod holder and behind it the Hobie tackle bin. I am able to hold two red plano boxes in it. The rest of my tackle I just put in the main hatch in red plano boxes.
Nice vid u remind me of thresher keep it up
Nothing worse than pulling hooks on a good bite. It happens a lot with specks though. Great vid. Thanks!
That's why i use straight mono or straight flauro.
Great video brother! Looks like your skiff is anchored. When you flashed the video towards the stern I tried to pause...is that a stake out pole? I noticed at one point, around 8:41 the pole was at the stern while you were paddling. I was thinking maybe a micro power pole for my solo skiff.
HMan One yes I have a power-pole installed on my solo skiff and it’s worth every bit. In my new motor + power-pole video I show how I installed it.
Who makes the hunchbacks?
nice!
I would love to go fishing with you man!! Let me know if that is possible haha. Always enjoy watching your vids man
Really enjoy your videos! Just subscribed. I'm rather new at this so I'm just asking...your rod looks rather on the light side. Isn't it more difficult to set the hook deep with a light rod? Live in Dallas so I'll be down there this Sat/Sun. Can't wait!
Thanks for watching and the sub! To answer your question It really depends on the size and species of fish your targeting. Trout are known to have a good fight but very delicate mouth tissue and if worked to hard to open your hook hole and are more prone to the hook being shook out of its mouth. Redfish have rubber lips so usually once you set the hook it’s in for the fight, but they also have bone like crushers in the back and hooks won’t penetrate that and if it’s back there are more prone to come out. The rods I use are on the lighter side but when marsh fishing I would rather have the extra sensitivity and for fishing with lures I like the extra action a lighter rod gives. I have caught upper slot reds on them and handled it fine. If I was going to the fish the end of jetty’s yes I would use a heavier rod.
I have a regular paddle kayak right now. Should I upgrade to a pedal yak or go for it with the solo skiff?
Peddle kayaks and solo skiff each have their advantages and disadvantages. I loved my hobie outback and you don’t need anything except maybe a milk crate with a zip tie rod holder to get out on the fish and be organized. With the solo you can get to spots faster and back to the launch faster + it’s more stable but you have a motor to keep up, it weighs more and you have to do a little rigging to make it an organized fishing platform. Just giving you realistic things to look at between the two.
Oh wow I wonder what the big one was! Good video!
Evelyn deharde I think a red but you never know!
Where did you buy that boat at?? Near Galveston or online?
There is a distributor for solo skiff in Houston (Brice Sanchez) that’s sells them. No shop but you contact through Facebook and y’all meet up and do the deal.
Thank you been wanting one for quite some time now but don’t want to order online
What fishing line brand is the pink line
Brandon Morawski Finn wind tamer
@@KagenFishing thank you love the videos
Hey great video! I am headed to the crystal beach area in two weeks. I have a small 8ft pond hopper with a trolling motor to fish the bay side. Haven’t fished that area before. Do you have any tips or good locations to launch? Just looking to catch some trout or reds.
Jared Ledbetter rollover pass is a easily accessible and nice spot to launch on bay side off sand that is a hot spot for fishing. Google maps satellite view is your friend!
Damn bro you were on the grind today!! Lol good stuff tho bro
It was hot but the bite kept me going!
Kagen Fishing where you fish at bro? I need to bring the yak down and rip some lips
All over the Galveston bay complex. Main factor in where I fish is wind direction.
My guy be losing the heck out of some fish 😅
we need to fish together one day. I like fly fishing for reds as well.
One thing about catching specks is their mouths are paper thin so it is tricky to landing them monster's now when their small it's easier lol
why do you always turn the little gears on your rod i just got a baitcaster not sure what it does lol
On that specific reel it has magnetic brakes and the adjustment is on the outside of the reel. I turn it up or down depending on if I am casting into the wind or with the wind.
Nice video. Keep em coming! What bait is that? 6th?
The beginning of video super spook jr then a hunchback
@@KagenFishing thanks for the reply! Really like the solo skiff, been pondering getting one for the lakes around me
Bet money that was a black drum and not a red
Hunter Nessen strong possibility!!
Hey Y’all I need a couple good kayaking spots if anyone could help out, I catch and release.
If you go watch some of my other videos I say where I’m fishing and then get on google maps and do some digital exploring. Find a place you can put your kayak in with water then go try it! One of the most rewarding thing is finding a spot that produces fish by exploring on your own!
We should do a fucking colab to start off my channel!😂
Great video! What do you prefer to edit with?
I use Final Cut Pro for all of my editing.
Kagen Fishing - Ok. 👍🏼 Is it hard to work with? I’ve used Adobe Premier Pro and using iMovie now. iMovie is a breeze. Adobe is hard a heck and has too much crap to learn.
I feel like Final cut is in the middle of Premier Pro and iMovie.
Kagen Fishing - Yeah I think you’re right. Thx for the info and great fishing edits!

You make an entertaining video but your top water technique is flawed. You are pulling / trying to set the hook too soon. With top water you need to let the fish take the lure then set the hook. Do not set when you see the splash wait for the pull then set. I promise you will catch more fish on top water. If you were fly fishing you would set the hook as soon as you see it hit but not with conventional baitcaster or spinning reel. If you think your hooks are not sharp enough change them out with VMC Cone Cut hooks, this will also increase your success. All in all great video your doing a good job keep it up and keep them coming.
OK i stop watching cuz this guy cant keep the fish on the line.....
Yah this guy sucks at fishing 😂
