This game was the true finals. I said it before the match, whoever gets this is going to win the whole tournament. No other team can compete with Spain or Germany.
@@LMaNdRe83 yellow cards get erased after the quarter finals. Only the players that got their second one in that match are now locked for the semi, which is only 2.
Honestly, I'm just glad that a match that was considered to be the real final did actually deliver. It was a close match an absolute nail biter and a good showing of both teams.
Right! The ref needed to stamp his authority on this game from the beginning. It was clear from the beginning that the Germans were out to physically intimidate the Spanish, even to the point of physically injuring players - Pedri, for example. The Germans were very dirty. Had the referee given Toni Kroos the red card he deserved for his brutal assault on Pedri, things would have calmed down and this would have been a much better regulated game.
It was simply unlucky for Germany that the two best teams in the tournament had to meet so early. One had to lose, and Germany was better overall. There is no reason to diminish what Nagelsmann managed to build up since he took over. If the team can keep this up, Germany is an obvious favorite for WC 2026.
English referees at it again. nothing new. Even if it does seem like he's favouring Spain he did let Kroos go without a card at all against him in the first half until the 2nd half. Kroos should've got at least a yellow card in the first half.
It seems like he wanted to compensate the fact that Kroos did not get a card by favouring Spain in the following minutes. But, no referee on this level should need to put himself into that position. This automatically and undeniably causes problems.
@unknownplayer978 Don't remember much about diving in the match but hey what can we do about it? it's Anthony Taylor after all. Even the prem fans hates him

As a Germany fan I'm somewhat sad, but our team restored the faith in our national team and I'm exited to what the future holds (Especially with Kroos and Müller retiring) [edit: Neuer seems to not be retiring and plans to play in WC 2026].
Exactly. As a Spaniard I was really nervous for this game because I knew how good Germany are now. We are both better than in the world cup but that game was a superb clash. You have very good players like Musiala, Wirtz, Gundogan ,etc. We both Spain and Germany have a great future and there will be more games like this coming up. You must be proud. We played the best game of the euro and in instances of the game you dominated us in our own tiki taka. Historic game
@@RosamandaKajni I just checked to make sure. Thomas Müller announced this to be his last national game. According to news articles, Neuer is not retiring yet tho! I just heard rumors of it and corrected it in my comment :)

This was a high end match with a low end referee. Not only that he didn't check the handball, he gave 16 (!!!!) cards in one match. Can't remember to see such a lot of cards in a match between high level teams. yes, the first 15 minutes the Germans played much to hard. Never seen this from Germany before.
Have to admit I was a little disappointed in Kroos. Didn't expect this type of 'rough' play from the Germans. They are better than that and they know it.
@@thecrimsondragon9744 agree. The first 15 minutes wasn't the german style of fight, espacially not Kroos style. In my opinion Germany lost the game in the first half. The second half and the extratime Spain had a lot of pressure and need some luck. Both teams played on very high level and it was fun to watch. France, for example, disappoint against Spain.
Great match; both teams gave it their all. Nagelsmann revived the national team and is bringing on the next generation. Frank Leboeuf thought he should have rested the older players in the Switzerland game. The older players did look tired. But congrats to Spain.
The moment Germany started to struggle counterpressing the wide areas. It was only the next minute away before Spain tries the centre and scored by Mikel Merino.
why would Germany change strategy 4 minutes before penalties. It was a lucky punch between many consecutive German close calls right after that atrocious handball
Absolutely nail-biter game. It was one of the best games after a round of 16 in this euro. I hope spain and Netherland win. It will snooze fest if the final is between France and England.
Why did De La Fuente take Lamine and Nico after going 1-0 up when you know now the Germans will push numbers forward so you will have room to destroy them on the counter. He almost gifted the game to Germany with his substitutions. I hope he has learnt from that. Dani Olmo was a beast this game, he deserves huge credit.
1-0 up, 15 minutes to go, close the match, defend what you have and then if you are a good coach (as he is) why to expose a couple of teens to a huge responsibility when they are burnt out? if we had lost it wouldn't have been their fault, I think he took the right decision.
Lamine is only 16 years old and Germany has a law that people under 17 can’t work after 20:00, sportsmen can until 23:00 but due to the timing of the matches he has to stop before or Spain could break the law and suffer penalties.
It absolutely was Spain is spectacular, by far the best team at Euros But Germany had them pinned down for the second part of the game - if they had their chances converted, they’d be ahead Absolutely the best game I’ve seen in this tournament
Thts where you are wrong. Spain dominated all game .at no point was Spain threatened. Germans couldn't convert because they Spain was a class above Germany. Defence was so good for Spain tht even germans playing like their lives were on the line couldn't do anything.
Not sure through which rose tinted glasses you watched the game, but on raw xg stats it was 1.42 spain to 2.13 germany, with a clear overall expected points advantage for germany. Both teams played really well in this entertaining game and spain was the best team so far in the overall tournament, but on the day they were lucky to have slighly better finishing
Xg dossnt tell the whole story, spain dominated in the first 60 minutes, then they dropped back, relying on counter attacks, which is when germany suffocated them, since they have very good players on the ball, and their crosses were killing the spain defence, the entrance of fullkrug was crucial for that, nacho and laporte just couldnt stop them, the goal came from a cross for example@@halcalaquende9952

But overall the match was super hands on from the first second. Never have i seen a match where players literally elbow each other when standing in a line waiting for the free kick. Or players being pushed to the ground while waiting for the match to resume. Absolutely 100% agression from both sides. The moment pedri got injured, spain was in a tough position. Spanish strenght isnt individual talent, it is teamplay and tactics, pedri is a midfield beast and he is key to play the typical spanish attack. Thats the reason of the changes in the 2nd half, when he got injured, manager didnt have time to get a new tactic and spain was offensively inconsistent. We have seen a defensive match from Spain, not our typical dominance style, that is because it cannot be done without him. I know spanish team is strong enough to face upcoming matches, but we just cannot play the same anymore, de la Fuente is smart and I trust him to get a solution, I know he had already a plan on how to play without him, he experimented multiple tactics before so he doesnt have to rely the team in a specific player, thats why our lineup against albania worked
@@MaekcseN as I have said, de la Fuente experimented in multiple matches to have different tactics so he doesnt have to rely in a single player, my point is that spanish dominative play will be no more for now and we will spot a different approach in the following matches
Olmo, Pedri's substitute, was the best Spanish player on that day, scoring the first and assisting the second Spanish goal. He was also awarded Player of the Match. Hence, I don't agree. In the Bundeliga, Olmo performs great too. His only problem is his susceptibility to injuries. Otherwise he would probably play for Real Madrid, FC Barcelona or Manchester City.
I mean, individual talent? Tell me another midifield with more talent than Rodri + Fabián + Pedri + Olmo + Merino + Zubimendi. Casuals don't know Merino & Zubimendi, but they are ballers for sure. But then that late goal in the 119th minute that came from nothing... That was painful. I feel robbed but its by no means undeserved for Spain and i wish them the best for the rest of the tournament.
@erdbeerschosch2839 - Nope! It was Germany who, as hosts, were hyped to the max. It was Germany and its pundits who were calling Spain a "just a bunch of kids"! But once the game began, it's clear what their dirty game plan was - to kick the sh*t out of Spain's more skilful players. Germany did not lose because of the not given handball. It lost because they missed to score one of their many great chances. Spain had the lucky punch. It was a great game and the first game that looked like a real football match in this Euros. Bitter for us but two equally good teams with the better ending for Spain. Greetings from Germany.
The most decisive factor in the game was Kroos sending Pedri off after 5 minutes without even being booked, and then stomping Yamal's foot 2 minutes later for a second forgiven yellow card. Kroos did merits for 4 yellows through the match and injured a key player for Spain very early. That was more decisive than anything. And regarding Cucurella's hand, there was an offside 5 seconds before, plus he was pulling his hand back, in a downwards position.
The guy replacing Pedri scored the 1 - 0 and assisted the 2 - 1. If that foul was decisive, it was decisive against Germany. Füllkrug was not offside. Ref communicated that he saw the handball and decided it was no pen. They didn't breath a word about offside. Downwards position of the arm has no bearing on if it was natural or not. It was significantly away from his body, thus extending his body frame, and most importantly, denying a clear shot on target. No field player hand should ever be allowed to block a shot on target.
The Offside is already been checked multiple times. It wasn't offside. Yes the Referee was to slow with the yellow cards allowing Kroos to keep on playing aggressive. But none of his fouls was worth a red card. And if this fragile wimp would not have been send off, your MVP Olmo would have never found its way into the Game like he did. Spanish time play, was also not called out and there were serveral emergency fouls in overtime, of which one was worth a red card also. So stop whining and show character and be a great winner. Stop gaslighting away from the penalty with Kroos fouls, it won't work and make you look stupid.
@@zenmonk5403 UEFA said that a defender in a standing position when the ball hits their arm at or close to their side, in position vertically, and/or with the arm behind the line of the body, it should not be punished. That Cucurella was bringing his arm in is a factor, as that's deemed to be removing a possible barrier (though you could be deemed to be doing that in a deliberate handball action.). Besides, Germany should've been with 10 players after just 10 minutes of game, you can't deny that.
@@Druzzt Vertical position of arm is utterly nonsensical when the body is not vertical. He was diagonal like some inflatable air dancer at a car wash. The phrasing of that first sentence is nonsensical. What does the vertical refer to? His standing position or his arm? And the ref cannot withhold a pen just because he felt regret about not sending Kroos off.
He played the ball on the first foul and wouldn’t have committed the other fouls if he would’ve got a yellow card your talking about toni kross he only had one red card his whole career if I remember correctly
Simón, ?, Nacho, Laporte, Cucu, Rodri, Fabián, Olmo, Lamine, Morata, Nico. Only issue is who plays right full back, Navas is 39 yo. @@xebio6 It's still very good, but significantly fewer options for subbing in. And 130 minutes of brawling in their bones. Hope Olmo remains hale, as he has been very injury prone at Leipzig. France will probably try another boring long con, for which they have more energy and deeper bench. But they suck so there's that.
If that was no penalty, what else is a penalty? Cucurella stopped Musiala's shot with the hand. The shot was aiming at the right top corner and Unai Simon would have had to make a great save, while it is unclear, if he would have saved this hard shot. The position of Cucurella's left arm was also not folded to the body, in contrast to his right arm. I always thought that only goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands and arms while playing football, but now I've learned that Cucurella is something like Spain's second goalkeeper, who makes great saves if necessary. If Germany would have got this penalty, I am convinced that Spain wouldn't have left the pitch as the winners. But that's football. And football can be cruel.
By the logic of UEFA this also wouldn't have been a penalty if he stopped the ball like that on the goal line. Such bullshit, this was the clearest penalty I ever saw. It gets even crazier when you look at the penalty Germany did get against Denmark. I watched the match and said "I don't want us to win with a bullshit penalty like this". If something like this is a penalty but the one in the Spain game isn't the rule is bullshit.

This is just total conjecture on your part and MAYBE the right call would have been to check it, so we dint have to have this argument. Why do we have VAR if not to make sure such controversial situations are handled correctly?
It wasn’t just this one Situation with the handball were the referee favored Spain. After he missed the yellow card for Kroos he tried to equalize this mistake but just made the game completely unfair
so after missing the first yellow for kroos in the pedri incident he tried to equalize his mistake by not giving him another deserved yellow 3 minutes later against jamal? totally valid explanation
Dude, there was a outside and a handball before that handball. Stop talking in these situations about the handball of cucurella and start talking also of the other situatuons
Spain is showing the best football but against France anything can happen. With France, England, Netherlands and Spain at this stage anything can happen so but somehow France is still the favorite to win, not for good football but for resilience. France keep playing poorly and keep moving forward.
What that German side review is that that left hand side for Spain is weak and to airreal ball. Also cucurilla is not gas in recover and both their center half is slow. Majority of the French attack is going to come from that left. And the reason why France haven’t score is because dechamp left all the goal scorer at home.
I think it's a real shame that we were knocked out because I think we were the better team overall. The handball penalty was obvious to me and to be honest it still pisses me off. But as has already been said in the comments here, Kroos had the legend bonus. When he forced his yellow card, I thought it should be a second yellow card. I don't know if that's a satisfactory analogy... I somehow think not, but whatever, we were knocked out by a strong opponent and I hope they take the win know. If we're going to lose, then we'll lose with our heads held high against the champ.
The whole play wasn't checked due to a previus Fulkrügs offsside position. It's an official Uefa statement. Also I dont know how can you say Gernamy were the better team overall when they didn't score a goal until the 87th minute. They only were better in then first 20 minutes of the game, after that Spain were better and forced Germany to play 40 minutes of long balls from the center backs to Fulkrug until the equalizer because they couldn't outplay Spain in the midfield.
@@gankstrap Spain dragged the game out wherever they could because they couldn't find the right means. Apart from that, scoring more goals has never been a reliable indicator of the better team. 10:00 why do you lie? the handball was preceded by a Germany's player handball and an offside. They checked it out in the VAR and the referee decided to continue with the game. And you don't talk about how permissive was he with Germany's faults and not with Spain's. Kroos had to be sent off in the first half. And two more times in the second half and the extra time. Also Andrich.
sorry, but if you leave out gthat one fould from Kroos neither team was more brutal than the other. The spanish players literally elbowed and hit the german players while getting into walls whenever there was a free kick.
Cucurella's handball came after an offside, so even if it's weird that the referee didn't decide to check it with VAR, the action would've been invalidated prior to the handball.
Cucurella did not know there was a previous handball by a German player and an offside that was not called. If a penalty had been called, a Var review would have intervened for sure.
Germany should had one. They had Spain on the ropes at the end. The left side of the Spanish team is really lack. I don’t see morata holding up the play against that France midfield
The referee's hand decision had to do with how many fouls tony kross was allowed (7 with only 1 yellow card, 1 of whom injured Pedri for the rest of the tournament)
How many dives were allowed by the Spaniards? Carvajal and Nacho should have seen yellow earlier as well. The ref was just incredibly bad. And then there is the handball situation...
if that was the case then the match would need to be replayed... and that is in the rules... because that would mean the Ref decided on personal beliefes and not rules invalidating the entire match.
Spain's manager got away with murder, worst in game management i have seen plus his initial approach of relying on countering and not pressing was just inviting pressure, Spain have never been a "counter and let the opponent have the ball" team, had they been knocked out it would have been 100% on the manager and diservengly got the sack. no. The footage has been watched over and over. The problem is that the ref did not use any technical devices during the game. Not once did he check the recordings or animations. @riatsudni8563 no there was not. The footage has been analysed thousands of times. There was no offside and even if there was the raf would still need to paus the game after the hand play to make a decision A handplay has to lead to a pause. Not pausing the game was a break of duty.

Should players be allowed to jump dive like goalies and have their arms in a 90º angle vertical to the ground and have hypothetical arms blocks be fair and square? The phrasing of that first sentence is nonsensical. What does the vertical refer to? His standing position or his arm? And the ref cannot withhold a pen just because he felt regret about not sending Kroos off.
He played the ball on the first foul and wouldn’t have committed the other fouls if he would’ve got a yellow card your talking about toni kross he only had one red card his whole career if I remember correctly
It should have been the recreation of 29 june 2008. Euro 2008 finals.
The win was so costly for Spain it might cost them the semi-final
Simón, ?, Nacho, Laporte, Cucu, Rodri, Fabián, Olmo, Lamine, Morata, Nico. Only issue is who plays right full back, Navas is 39 yo. Coach might choose a centre back in there or even move Cucu to the right to deal with Mbappe and play Grimaldo on the left. The rest of the starting 11 is not that bad or different, is it?
@@xebio6 It's still very good, but significantly fewer options for subbing in. And 130 minutes of brawling in their bones. Hope Olmo remains hale, as he has been very injury prone at Leipzig. France will probably try another boring long con, for which they have more energy and deeper bench. But they suck so there's that.
@@xebio6 Nacho plays full back for Madrid, don't you remember at Anfield he destroyed Gomez in the 5 to 2 win lol 😂 😂
But the play before the handball there was a clear offsides....
Very good....we all wanted Kross not to get a yellow card (just 2), not to be called offside prior to Cuscurella's handball and, finally, to call the penalty...... (that would have been the right?).......well no
@@maatfrancis Kroos should have get a yellow earlier true, but that doesn't make the penalty decision any less wrong. Füllkrug wasn't offside.

Furthermore the only rule that somewhat could make that not a foul would be the "natural-position" rule and that wasn't a natural position by any means and even if you would count it as one there is also the rule of "taking the risk of getting hit by the ball" rule and that clearly applied here cuz not only did he not put his hand behind his back as he should have but even hold it out half an meter and with that increased his body-surface (which is forbidden aswell). @@thepretorian5292 I don't know what you've smoked, but don't worry, I'll enlighten you. Spain's last defeat against Germany was in Euro '88, (2 goals from the legendary Rudi Völler)
@@MrTramborrios germany always owned spain in major tournaments before 2008 whenever they faced. Tbh they haven't faced much as spain was trash before their golden gen who barely qualifies whereas germany always reaches atleast the semi finals in every major tournaments.
@@thepretorian5292 Life teaches you that no one remembers who reaches the semifinals and that in sport you don't live from the past. On the other hand, I have never seen Germany score 6 goals against Spain like the national team did last year in the national league of which Spain is the current champion.....Germany is light years away from Spain and that stings the ass
@@MrTramborrios lol that was germany's b team spain defeated. Nation league is similar to olympics nobody gives a shit.
And how is Spain light years? Spain football career started from 2008, before that they were completely irrelevant and unknown in football besides that fluke euro win while germany has always been a powerhouse since the 60s. Records speak for itself 4 cups and 8 finals 3 euros and 8 finals. Now compare that stats with Spain, it's laughable.
To be fair, the hand ball was preceded by an off side from Fulkrug and I believe thats why they did not check VAR
No, if it were off side # they would have had a free kick. Nobody ever said anything about off side. The ref just decided, that a clear handball wouldn't count for some random and that he wouldn't even go and review it.
the uefa will not release their footage and data to check for offside. Whcih tells me that it wasnt offside. If it was offside they would just release to data to mute all discussions. The german broadcasters id and offside check with the footage they had and said that it wasnt offside.
@@maxwellsdemon10 No, they didn't give spain a free kick because the match didn't stop by VAR, if the VAR checked the handball they 100% would gave spain a free kick, learn the rules before saying bs.
@@gankstrap so the lines judge didn't see the offside position, but you could see it during the broadcast?
Sure buddy....
And still no one talked about Rudiger's crosses... ?
I don't know why no one is talking about that one of the reasons why the referee did not call a penalty was because previously Füllkrug was offside and controlled the ball with his arm
German TV checked exactly that and concluded it was no offside.
Nico y lamal hay que reservarlos y protegerlos. Son " niños" 😂
It was offside before Cucurella handball...
dude...NO ONE knows...why is stuff like this just stated
@@peter-mv5gkwhy does the penalty seem so obvious suddenly lol there was a very likely offside before, and a very likely handball before. I think it's not mad to say that the penalty wasn't an obvious decision.
@@kenclark3170 there was no call for offside and from the pictures there seems to be no offside
@@kenclark3170 and i did NOT say that haha...i just call out people who act as if they would be in the VAR station themselves and would have drawn the invsible line which shows that it was offside...which sometimes takes minutes as we know
@@peter-mv5gk you never know, maybe they were in the var station. Quite unlikely but could be
For all those dumb Germans whining: the ref was biased for Germany. Krose should have had yellow long before. 3 minutes extra time became 5 without any stoppage in play and a lot more.
He would have given a penalty however it was clearly off side in the first of two passing before the shot.
Wasn't fulkrug offside just before the handball action?
no. The footage has been watched over and over.
The problem is that the ref did not use any technical devices during the game. Not once did he check the recordings or animations. Otherwise Kroos would have gotten the yellow card much much earlier and the german defender would not have gotten his for jumbing into a faint and then having a spainard running into him tackeling him away.
This game was so full of inconsitensies that it hurts. Great game made controversial by the ref doing whatever he wanted.
Spain deserves the win but germany would also have deserved it.
This entire situation is why Fifa and Uefa decided to allow all the camera proof and then the ref does not use it once
There was a german offside slightly before, yes.
@@AlphaHorst It wasn't checked due to a previus Fulkrügs offsside position. It's an official Uefa statement.
@riatsudni8563 no there was not.
The footage has been analysed thousands of times. There was no offside and even if there was the raf would still need to paus the game after the hand play to make a decision
A handplay has to lead to a pause. Not pausing the game was a break of duty.
@@AlphaHorst And the thousandfold analysis led to the conclusion that there was a german offside before the hands.
Pls do u know where to get these matche with the Birds Eye view cameras pls
Kroos. Disgusting ehat he did to Pedri
calm down its not even a very rough foul. It's unlucky he got injured but it's a yellow card at worst.
@@roflcopter4273 not very rough? I'm sure Pedro's injury shows otherwise.
@@icyveins21 There are very rough fouls that don't result in injury and not so rough fouls that unluckily do result in injury. An injury by itself does not say anything about the gravity of a foul. Come on man.
@@roflcopter4273 he did him twice in quick succession........
@@freddysquirenaranjo4859 he made up his mind mate. He's convinced Kroos did no wrong
I don't see why teams play sane , he's shit for Germany and shit for bayern too, horrible player to watch
About the penalty; as far as I'm concerned, if the ball touches your hand while you're trying to put it next to your body it's not a handball, which was what he was trying to do.
The other arm had enough time to move to his body, but this one was way slower. If the arm wasn't there, it would have been a solid shot on target, so a penalty only seems fair. It obviously wasn't on purpose, but still canceled a shot on target
@@mclovinisback5866 But before the hand there was an offside and a possible hand from Germany, so it wasn't a penalty.
@@hugooo16-hhfh I still havent seen any proof that it was offside neither of Füllkrug`s handball almost 24h after the game, so im still very confused about the situation. They simply shouldve checked it with the VAR
Having to make your own interpretation of the rule is why FIFA et al are making football a joke.
@@mclovinisback5866issue is player shot right at his arm. So no foul. U can't cut off an arm when someone shoots at it
Tony Kris should have been red carded at the very beginning of the match for his foul on Pedri. He didn’t even get a yellow card.
Bro thats just delusional, that is yellow at best but neeeeeever ist that a red card, never
The referre show have show a red card to Tony Kroos at the very beginning
