I am so tired of them making them look like humans. It's weird for a human to have a pet that looks like a human, it makes it feel more like a furry thing
Not only that but it goes against everything pokemon was suppose to be. The creator said himself that pokemon are suppose to feel like real life animals. Which is the thing I loved most about pokemon growing up is the idea of animals with these special abilities and being able to live along side them. But these don't feel like animals. If anything they seem more like furries. There are many upright standing pokemon that work but these just.. they don't. Black and white I kinda didn't like their designs when they first came out but now looking back from the gens after black and white, I appreciate them and their designs a lot more now.
And I'm sick and tired of people saying that Pokémon HAVE to be animals in the first place! Pokémon aren't animals, they're monsters or Kami (deity's). Monsters can come in all shapes and sizes, humanoid or not. It's fine if people don't like the humanoid pokémon that much, I get it we hate furries yadda yadda. But it feels dumb to try and make a subjective preference as an objective fact when pokémon never had a set path of what a pokémon can be, especially since it's a fictional series. Since gen 1 they've been designing humanoid mons with set roles to them, so why complain now? In other fictions, there are humanoid monsters too (succubu, beastman, werewolves, and etc) that are categorized in beastiaries if they're not clearly a human, so I really don't see the issue of a pokémon looking human-like if that's okay in other fictions with monsters either. If pokémon stuck to just making generic animals on all 4's that just kind of spews elemental attacks, I would probably not be a fan of the franchise today. The beauty of pokémon is the variety of inspirations that goes into each and every design, ridiculous or not. I'm not saying you have to like the starters here, that's up to personal preference. But I'm saying that when someone tries to say what is and isn't a pokémon, it is just a point of preference rather than fact.

The Sprigatito line is based on the gentleman Thief archetype. They're more or less cat burglars who rob from wealthy people and use trickery to outwit the authorities to flee. Fuecoco's line combines the idea of the synthetic relationship that crocodiles have with specific birds, mariachi bands, and most importantly the Day of the Dead Holiday. Quaxly's entire line is just based off of Capoeira, a Brazilian fighting style that focuses on dancing and kicking which was developed by slaves to fight back against colonizers. There's a lot of history stuffed into these three

They look so.. out of place and unnatural. ;w; It doesn't look like they are Pokémon. :x Especially the fire one. Just.. feels so off.

Nobody talk about these,but The starters are also heavily inspired by carnival, if you look closely the cat inpired by carnival magicians with that mask, the croc face also looks like a clown beacause of the side bird burning thingy looks like a hair of a clown and the duck as a dancer resembles the costume design of carnival dancers. Im not sure if carnivals originated in spain
Yeah. The final form of the grass type reminds me of cirque du soleil performer and the water type final form reminds me of carnaval performer from Spain. Anyone else get the same vibes?
I still plan on getting SPRIGATITO for my starter when I can get the game. While I don't mind the biped masquerade idea, I feel like the design is not colorful enough.. It is mega cool that their secondary types trump each other backwards instead of forwards
I hate humanoid Pokemon, and I hate "clothes" on Pokemon... but Decidueye was fine, it was literally just an owl with a ghillie-suit made of leaves... I also love how Empoleon's beak is his crown and I give that a pass cause bird keratin can do stuff like that... what I can't forgive is Empoleons ugly suit and ruffles!! x( The final Quaxly evo literally reminds me of Sylvando from Dragon Quest 11 :')

I honestly don’t like the final evolutions, the sprigatito evo is my favorite, the other two are…. Not in my taste, I will be choosing sprigatito :) Edit: I was also soo excited for fuecoco but I was really disappointed. And quaxly, it’s just got the same posture as a Instagram model Edit 2: the more I look at it, the more I start to love sprigatitos evo, it’s all in all super cool, and a Pokémon I look forward to having on my team! And I don’t hate the other two, I’m just a bit disappointed, but the more I look at them too, they’re not really *that* bad

Honestly, I am so happy that I stopped playing pokemon with gen 8. I was let down too many times with recent games, and these starters are following that trend. I don't want to use any of those starters. I was hoping that this would be the game to redeem pokemon, but with these starters and all the technical issues I've heard. I think this will be the first mainline pokemon game that I will not purchase. It's truly a sad day. In the words of Blink-182 "I guess this is growing up"... I hope pokemon can redeem themselves, because I want to play their games, but it looks like I've grown outside of their target demographic.
when they first revealed the starters, I was in team Sprigatito but once I saw their evolutions, it just looked pretty bad, so I went with the coolest one, Fuecoco turning into Skeledirge, plus that Day of the Dead theme for Skeledirge and them turning into a ghost fire type is so sick ngl. So a Day of the Dead theme clearly beats an out of place bipedal virtuoso and a cha cha cha fruity looking peacock
Themed evolutions have existed since generation 6. I miss the days when they just made evolutions without an overall gimmick. These have to be the absolute worst starters ever
I personally don't mind any of the Gen 9 starters. I *love* Skeledirge, but the other two are fine too. Idk why people seem to hate them so much, even to the point of saying they're *worse* than Gen 8's??? Like... no? Lol.
I'm loving the game. It's been a while since a mainline game was this great (I know about the glitches/bugs, I have encountered some myself but they're not game breaking so I don't mind them). I really like the starters design and all (except the spriggatito line's movepool; worst protean user ever so far). Don't know why folks were expecting one thing or another with these mons (really, if you don't want to be disappointed, don't have expectations or have expectations that are factually reasonable at least), I expected spain or latin america related designs and got exactly that.

Feel like fire had so much potential to be cool and it’s weird how aggressive it looks when it’s first two forms were so goofy looking. Like why did they even give it a hat to take it away. Leaning toward grass. But maybe I’ll go with fire. Water is just absolutely shot. Def a no go.
I think people are missing the point on why some of these starters are humannoid. The reason why they are designed is about the history of spain and colonization as well as african Brazilian and french ties. As well as spiritual meanings like the day of the day for skeledirge and vodo as well for Meowscrada and Quaquaval with an exotic fighting style their a martial arts reference i forgot the name and the festival associated with their evolution is not all fun either most of it is filled with death diseases and slavery and people fighting for their lives, due to European colonization, That could tie into the whole premise of the game especially the paradox pokemon and area zero i love all of their designs. U may not like it because if preferences but when u see that pokemon put so much history and real life lore inside the designs than whats on the surface u kinda have to respect it. Most of the hate is for bipedal pokemon which i don't understand because most of the starter's are not bipedal or either mons that van stand on too legs like incinoroar or tysplosion, and goriilabom who can also run on all floors and can do both 🤔🤨

I think Quaxli evolution is inspired by the Brasilian Carnival maybe. Since in Brasil they speak portuguese, I don't know. I'm not a fan of Meowscarada it's too similar to the fenekin final form imo.
I don't care how much people just want to cope, and say game freak this, Pokemon that, of course maybe I can see someone liking the starters and their final, Maybe its just just how the game looks that makes them look bad, these Evolutions couldve been more but they drop the ball without looking just like weird people or boring, I don't understand people all over the Internet made gimmicky Evolutions that still looked cool and were referencing various things to do with the game or the location or the theme.

Its an old catholic/cristian tradition if i remember right i dont think it has much to do with Spain though.
Quaquaval is specifically based on the Canary Islands Carnaval. So, yes, Carnaval is from the Iberian Peninsula
But yeah you have a point. Masquerade its the name of carnival in Italy if remember right and Venice is really famous for it.

I'm not a fan of Meowscarada it's too similar to the fenekin final form imo.

I don't care how much people just want to cope, and say game freak this, Pokemon that, of course maybe I can see someone liking the starters and their final, Maybe its just just how the game looks that makes them look bad, these Evolutions couldve been more but they drop the ball without looking just like weird people or boring, I don't understand people all over the Internet made gimmicky Evolutions that still looked cool and were referencing various things to do with the game or the location or the theme.
I dislike humanoid pokemon since machamp, jynx, mr. mime times...it's a shame that this trend has infected the starters.
