I really hope one day we finally get a Pokémon game that’s so massive that you can literally choose any starter you want from any and every single Pokémon generation. Plus you can find and catch any Pokémon in the world known to man. I really miss the Generations 1-5 Pokémon, especially 1-3 because that’s my childhood and what I remember the best.
They will never do this, since it means they cannot milk that cash cow anymore + it costs more to make than it will return in profits.
Seeing the quality of Violet/Scarlet I think you could expect that to never happen

@@nickdentoom1173 there is a way, make it online servers where you can go with friends and compete in multiple tournaments and explore caves etc. There's so much potential, and they can charge monthly subs to keep money flowing its really not difficult to figure out. Plus they can release new games and than charge for expansion packs to have the new pokemon. Its endless cash cow but Nintendo were always 10 steps behind Microsoft and sony
One thing I really like about Skeledirge's Torch Song is how smoothly it pairs with overheat, you can start a battle by casting 2 TS to kill the first mon, and then have a +2 Overheat that can oneshot almost anything even if when resisted, and you go back down to regular sp. atk, you can rinse and repeat.
Equip throat spray, you'll only have to use it once and not twice #TeamSkeledirge

I really love the 3 choice with these starters
-Slow but Strong Tank
-All around Heavy Hitter
-Fast and Versatile Sweeper

That's actually a really good point about the game having other options to fire pokemons. What I also realized is that the 3 storylines were probably implement to give each of the starter a chance to shine. It's even hinted at in the game (Fuecoco - Victory Roads, Quaxly - Starfall Street, & Sprigatito - Path of Legends)

Indeed. The last grass starter I liked and used for a first playthrough was…. Bulbasaur in LeafGreen. Like shite. That’s not to say there haven’t been solid grass starters since but the Water and Fire types end up grabbing my attention those other times.
Nintendo's tired of people sleeping on grass starters. They are soo OP, just need a little patience. Slow and steady wins the race
Agreed , it is very helpful against the late part of the game however it doesnt do well against the team star bosses but for elite four, geeta and nemona is very good
I typically opt for fire types in pokemon, but this time I went with Sprigatito just bc I liked the look. I ended up being blown away by the time it evolved into Meowscarada between using flower trick and being so fast it could avoid most of the attacks coming to it. Grass type isn’t the best, but tbh it encouraged me to go out and catch more Pokémon to cover all my bases. In the past I only used very few Pokémon beyond my fire type starter.

I love how thorough your evaluation is! I personally always pick the starter who’s role is hard to replace (infernape in Sinnoh or Blaziken in Emerald), therefore I’d pick the grass 1 :)

When I heard Meowscarada had a move that always critical hit and doesn't check accuracy, I knew it would be good. (Well done pokemon for a great grass type starter that's a cat!)

Honestly I like the insight you provided. It kept the spoilers to a minimum. I haven’t played the games as of yet but if I had to rank the starters as to viability on my end game, I would go Grass, Water, Fire. Like you said the fire type stater is easily replaceable while the grass type not so much. The duel typing of grass/dark meshes well with the typing I typically use for a competitive build and while water types are my usual go to starter it is hard to deny the usefulness of that grass/dark overt water/fighting. I do feel bad that our fire/ghost boi falls off a bit, but as you said he is a very good starter I just can’t get over the fact he’s easily replaceable.

I went with Sprigatito because one of the Violet exclusive Pokémon is also fire ghost. Then I eliminated Quaxly as I think there are more good water types than grass types.

@@henryhuangstar3270 you know type matchups right? then why you will use grass/dark against a bug type. you use your fire type pokemon to do that job. if you are talking about bug coverage then I can surely say no trainer in this game uses bug coverage frequently like dark,, ice and fairy( these are most used coverage moves used by other trainers). fairy and ice type moves are problems but you can somewhat tank them if you are high level because these moves will be none stabs.

I personally agree with the tie, however I do prefer Fuecoco because of Torch Song and it’s build alone. I also love the fact that this is one of the first quadrupedal starter we’ve gotten in a while. And I mean a WHILE. I like the other two, but sometimes too humanoid can really change my opinion. For that, I’m choosing Fuecoco as my starter!
I hate the look on that duck and the cat looked nice at first but it evolved into human-cat hybrid and looks stupid.
Very insightful, I definitely feel more confident about all of the starters usefulness now as they all appear to be solid pokemon

The speedy attacker is usually my go to for a starter regardless of typing, and grass happens to be my favorite of the 3. Hearing its tied for best then makes my choice even easier!

Meowscarada is an example of bipedalism done right (looking at you Incineroar) and I was immediately sold when I saw it's mask and carnival performer design. Do not regret my choice one bit. Grass-Dark is a great offensive combo and it has a ton of coverage (also the most broken grass type move in the series lol). It's hard to find a mon in either version that can replace Meowscarada
Just need to avoid bug types at all cost.

I like meowscarda's design but i also think incineroar also hits a good design too. One, and elegant sword fighter and the other a brute of a heel wrestler.

I didnt spoil myself enough beforehand. I only saw first stages Pokémon. My ranking then was water grass fire. You kind of convinced me because it’s the first time I’m seeing any type of video about the starters. Nice video
I picked Quaxly at first due to it having the fewest weaknesses to worry about. You are right about them not tanking too well, but I found a couple of fun things to do to cover that flaw. One of them is having roost and a fun item on hand to annoy others with. I have also experimented with using chilling waters to slow opponents down until getting fainted and use a tankier pokemon afterward. I had found that building them like meowscarada made it easier to wreck the field with them. The build I had set up for my gal made her take out half of the champion team because I was breaking down the opposition's speed and boosting my own with recovery on the side. I only had to rely on three pokemon total to beat the champ.
Meowscarada is similar in building and can be more unpredictable. Easily the top starter in my book to be a support for teammates in a team battle. Getting all of those weaknesses covered is the hardest for me among the starters, especially the double weakness to bug. It seems to be able to be altered to handle either attack or special attack, making it the trickiest of the starters to play with. I won't be able to tell what is up this cat's sleeves...will it pollen puff an ally or play a dirty trick? A great sweeper in the end.
Our fiery croc is definitely the tank among the starters. It can just concentrate on its defenses to fight against its many weaknesses instead of hunting strategies to negate them. It seems to be the easy starter this round despite the risks that come with it due to how straightforward you can be to make it a powerful sweeper, as the video displayed. I haven't played with it enough to evaluate all of the potential it has.
I love all three starters and these pokemon will only shine brighter if the teams they get set with are just as grand.

I really liked your ranking, you went through not only their abilities, but also by level on how well they will scale throughout the game. Ive seen Fuecoco and he looks adorable, but I think I'm going to go with Sprigatto its just too cute and its final form looks mysterious and cool. It also reminds me of the rowlet line which I absolutely adored. Much appreciated your ranking :).

Ive only played emerald and heart gold my entire life, but watching this walkthrough. i am so intrigued to play the new pokemon games even before scarlet & violet. no doubt meowscarada is a fan favorite and a mon thats diversed in all of the gyms a starter youd wanna hold on to throughout the playthrough ❤️🔥❤️🔥

The ranking and analysis is amazing. It's sound, reasonable, and understandable. Overall, despite the stats and moves of Quaxly and its evolution line. I like its design of all 3 cause it feels more energetic with its flowing design. Not saying the others are designed bad, but the way Quaxly conducts itself in its movement and animations draws me in more than the rest. Thanks for the video my guy!
Note that you can get Ceruledge or Armarouge really early on in the game if you want a fire type pokemon

Loved the design of Sprigatito when Pokémon Scarlet/Voilet was announced, and hearing its a great starter gameplay-wise as well makes me all the happier. Definitely a my choice for this gen’s starter.

After watching again and thinking about it, I want to say that Skeledirge isn’t just big, bulky, and like a tank, it’s also really good at defeating other Pokémon in one hit with moves like Flamethrower, Hyper Voice, Hex, and Shadow Ball.
I AM SO HAPPY THAT SOMEONE IS PRAISING MEOWSCARADA. It's always the fire types that are everyone's favorite ya know? And I just really fell in love with Sprigatito at first sight and the only downsides were that it was grass-type. My brother told me that Fuecoco was the way to go and that grass was not the best. I'm so glad that you showed how good Meowscarada actually is.

I loved that you went so into detail into the ranking and saying both pros and cons it really wasn't 1sided . Coming from a pokemon fan since I was little. In pokémon you really always want to go first and one-hit the opponent for your main run, so I'd say Meowscarada takes the edge
No matter what, the starter choice is yours, all of them are REALLY good.
I love skeledirge and meowscarada and Quaxly’s line is growing on me. I love to have sweepers on my team but skeledirge’s design is the best in my opinion.

Thank you for this! I'm a bit disappointed to hear my boy Quaquaval isn't quite on par with the other two, but I guess that just means I'll have to give my team building a little more thought. While he's not as immediately deadly as Meowscarada, I think I could definitely make something work with Swords Dance and a berry to help him regain health while he's setting up!

Wait until the Hidden Abilities are released, then Quaquaval is instantly elevate to top spot due to Moxie (Meowscarada will be less good, because Protean is nerfed, meaning its really easy to prepare for, since it most likely carries Flower Trick, Dark Move and U-Turn + with the Protean nerf, Terra on Meowscarada is bascially useless).
I completely agree with your readings, but one thing is, I am definitely getting Violet 100%

Good ranking I think Skeledirge and Meowscarada are the best for beginners. And Quaxly is good for a second play through.
I've always been choosing fire types as my starter Pokemon since the first game I played (Pokemon fire red) so I'm glad to see that I can still have faith in this Pokemon even multiple generations into the game. Thanks for the information.

Meowskarada is the fast physical grass sweeper we all waited for years.
I was initially gonna pick Quaxly and then I see it's final evolutions design. I then chose Sprigatito as a second option. Not only is it powerful, I'm starting to really like it's design. Meowscarada is probably my new favourite pokemon.

I am going to choose Sprigatito because of Meowscarada. I like how that Pokémon is able to hit first while also being a dark type. I rather use a different ghost type like Gengar.
I liked how you presented sprigatito differently. Other videos claim that route is the “hardest” starter but after this video I’m going with Sprigatito
I beat the "hard" gym (no 7) as my 4th gym - the game is so open you can do whatever you like, so just pick whatever you like 👍

When I saw Skeledirges design and stats I was sold on Fuecoco, and I think this list is good and informative while reinforcing the fire croc supremacy
You do know Meowscarada and skeledrige tied for first, right?? He isn't the actual best because they were tied. But Meowscarada is still better because of the signature move, Flower Trick. Skeledrige's signature move is a better Charge Beam.

After watching, I think I’ll switch my pick from Fuecoco to Sprigatito. A fast sweeper is definitely the way to go, especially with its insane signature move. Skeledirge is cool, but like you said it can be pretty easily replaced, so there’s no sense in using it to fill a niche on your team comp.

Your ranking makes total sense to me, tbh. My favorite is probably the Quaxly line, but that's just barely and has nothing to do with stats -- I just love them! Taking stats into account as well as design, and the Sprigatito line actually shoots up to my faves. They're all super close though; this may actually be my favorite group of starters.
I feel we're gonna see a lot of teams including both starters in online battles
Sprigatito was the starter I chose cause I thought it was cute, and then I saw that it would end up being grass dark, and knew I made a good decision. The fire starter was a close second for me though. The water type just didn't appeal to me this gen. Also, I'm glad to see you doing pretty well with the pokemon stuff. I used to watch you speedrun origins like every week way back when. You seem just as informative and knowledgeable in pokemon as you were in zombies. Keep up the good vids, I got really lost(Cause I skipped a lot of dialogue lmao) and these vids are helping a lot.

I was fixed in choosing Sprigatito but eventually chose Fuecoco because of its irresistible cuteness in Pokemon Violet. Good thing though I bought the Double Pack, so I will definitely choose Sprigatito, because of this video.

I'm usually a water starter user, but this time I went with grass kitty and I'm so glad I did! Meowscarada is now one of my favorite starter pokemon, right up there with Greninja and Blaziken.

I think you are very right on the rankings as both have there strengths and weaknesses as for the water starter he can be good at some points but doesn’t match up with the others you explained this really well

I disagree with the final ranking in that there is a tie and I would give the slight nudge to the grass/dark fellow due to there being less alternatives to replace it with. I will give fuecoco the fire/ghost mon second place since it is bulky and capable of being a massive attacker with its boosted special attack shadow balling all opponents but considering it can be somewhat replaced typing wise with Ceruledge in Pokemon Violet and then the other mon Annihilape in which both games have. Then lastly I agree Quaxly to be tha last but considering its Fighting type and not great 1st and 2nd stages due to its move pool I would take the honor of being able to build a team built around him as the least favourable of the bunch in the ranking of this Video! ❤ Great Video!

AMAZING ranking. Personally, all the starters seem to be pretty good, but if I had to pick, I think I would go with the fire starer. Sure, Meowscarada is amazing and all but I think honestly that It’s design, it’s stats, My gosh, I can’t believe how good they made this fire little crocodile. Come on, it even has it’s own signature move. It also matches up pretty well with the gyms inside of this game, also, I really loved all the evolutions new evolutions scarlet and violet gave us, especially the Primeape. This definitely is one of the best generations that I find really entertaining.
To be fair, all the gen 9 starters have their own special move
