I've recently read the books and now know how dangerous the brutes really are, and how devastating the covenant weapons can be. A group of 3 brutes took on chief and 3 other Spartans. Grace was killed in the initial ambush, John was grappling with a brute and nearly died while Fred and Will were pinned down, unable to do anything. Seeing just how many brutes and other Covenant soldiers there are, seeing the men falling and running, the sheer hopelessness and fear on those faces, it barely looks like a battle. It looks like a massacre.
the great schism and really the arbiter are the only reasons humanity survives. my only complaint of Halo 3 is I wish they displayed that hopelessness a bit more and made you feel the weight of just how much the shangheli helped
That's big considering, I can't remember if it was Will or Fred. But one of those Spartan's specialties were hand to hand combat and even threw fists and beat a Hunter in unarmed combat in the book Ghosts of Onyx
The most powerful trailer I know of, for any game. You don't need the characters to move. The expressions on their faces say everything that needs to be said. You don't get trailers like this anymore. Now, it's just flashy hype for next-gen mediocrity at full-retail price. Gaming as a whole has gone to shit.
I couldn't agree more. They just try too hard & not just with the trailers. They use to be a lot more creative as well with their games. Most of the companies have moved too far away from what made games great like back in the good old days (90's for me when i was born).
The greatest* No video game has ever had a better series of advertisements than Halo 3, even Halo Reach or ODST's ads weren't as good as this. It really was lightning in a bottle, when pop culture, internet culture, and gaming culture all sort of came together at once throwing this game deeper into the zeitgeist than a series of advertisements alone could ever do. The timing was perfect for it.
I second that notion from the fellow above me. Nothing has topped this, and it will be well earned if anything ever truly manages to top this. But I'm pretty confident that won't be in my life time.
I still believe that Halo can make a comeback. Never forget the franchise that Bungie made. Never forget the entertainment it brought us. Never forget Halo. Rest in peace. 2001-2010
Kurt -051 Can't you see? It's over. Are you blind to all that's happening? The micro transactions, the head of Halo leaving, etc? Halo is a dying franchise. At this point nothing can change that. Halo will never be the same, it will never be as good as it once was. All we can do is try to make our voices be heard "Take out the req system" "Bring back the old art style" "Make Master Chief the protagonist again" If we do that, we might just have a chance. But I have a feeling that Microsoft doesn't care about us or Halo anymore. In their eyes, Halo is just their cash cow. It's a shame, really. I like to think that Halo stricken down when Bungie left and Halo 4 was its last stand. Now the flood took over its body. That's what Halo 5 is.
PhantomMori Can't you see that excessive toxicity from the community doesn't help either? You are a part of this toxicity. You're saying that Halo is dying? You know that you can recover from a very large cancer, even though you are at your final stand? You are one cell of that cancer that the community is facing right now and you are badly metastasing. You're keep saying that your opinion is a fact, although everything is relative and everything is possible. ^^ First, you can't really be sure of anything (exception of relatively). Secondly, every opinion, point, argument, statement, perspective, etc. is valid and connected to everything. This is the effect of relativity. Here are some corrections: Josh Holmes isn't the head of 343i, he is one of its leaders, like Bonnie Ross, and he isn't leaving yet but soon. "Make Master Chief the protagonist again" and "Take out the REQ system" are purely closed minds, these things only need adjustments (no microtransactions, no armor customisation included to the REQ system, better UI, revise Locke's/Chief's roles, make MC appear as much as Locke) and those are long term adjustments so stop being so "frustrated". Also, Chief is already on of H5 protagonist.
Kurt -051 What difference will one kid do to the moral of the Halo fan base? Chief was only in 3 missions in all of Halo 5's campaign. 343 is just digging the hole deeper and deeper. It's gonna take a miracle for Halo to make a come back. Microsoft won't let go of micro transactions. And because of that, we're pretty much doomed. It's not like all because I said that Halo is finished, you're gonna give up as well, are you? So calm down man.
Toenism Everyone has their own opinion I respect yours but as a Halo fan since day one and I mean Friday 15th November 2001. I will always be a loyal gamer towards Halo. Yes we are going through some tough times but that can only mean improvements are coming soon.
When I was a kid, Halo 3 was the first ever M Rated game I played; it was also my introduction to first person shooters. Before that, I pretty much just played Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2 and the Revenge of the Sith game (also for a little while I had the spiderman 2 game). Halo 3 was so groundbreaking to me, it was the first time a game's story and gameplay had really grabbed me and pulled me in. I still have so many fond memories of it. I will never forget playing "The Covenant" with my older brother and dropping him off onto a scarab from the hornet I was piloting and then picking him back up right before it explodes. I also remember playing infection mode with just him and his friend (on splitscreen because we didn't have xbox live at the time) and I would struggle so hard to get them because they would just drive around the map on a mongoose. It may sound ridiculous, but the experiences I had playing Halo 3 honestly changed my life. God I love this game.

The Halo trilogy tells an amazing tale few others have matched in terms of greatness. Humanity colonizing the stars in the 26th century and encountering an alien conglomerate empire known as The Covenant. Even though the entire war was a lie for the great prophets to hang on to their power through lies that humanity was an affront to their gods and masters the Forerunners even though humanity were the heirs of their technology the Reclaimers. Humanity fought for nearly 3 decades against a foe that outnumbered them and outgunned them. But humanity endured their light never going out despite the billions of deaths and dozens of planets scorched by the fires of the prophets judgement. Humanity's ultimate victory was not achieved in one skirmish or in one day it was bled for by billions of humans. Civilians, Marines, and the ODST's and ultimately the Spartan-II's of which John-117 the Master Chief was the most famous and his light shone the brightest giving hope to a species who was losing their hope and their faith that the Covenant War could be won. But in 2552-2553 the war at long last came to an end Master Chief, The Arbiter and his Sangheili soldiers defecting causing a Schism and the new strength given to humanity gave them the will to achieve victory but at a large cost. The Human-Covenant war was the most destructive and bloody ever fought in Human history except perhaps maybe the war with the Flood and Forerunners. The lore, backstory, gameplay, and characters have made Halo my favorite game franchise of all time and I hope like humanity it will endure and shine brightly even under new leadership of 343i.
Well, at first to me it was just this game about take the Assault Rifle, grab headshot capable weapon, deal with grunt minions guarding brute leader, throw a few stickys back melee brute and move on... ...but when you put it like that...

Just to share a memory; I remember watching this trailer over & over while on my grandmas couch… when I close my eyes and listen to the music I can still see both her & my father, now both deceased watching it with me; I see the couch, the giant Tv from the 90s she refused to replace, everything. For all the disappointing nostalgia trips I've had, ones like this hit me hard for how much it really holds up as much as it did for me as it as a kid.

These games will never die. You can play them with new friends and love ones. Show these games to a younger audience. A friend next door, a niece, nephew. Anyone! Let them enjoy something from our past. Explain the story of S-117 and how he helped shape who we are today as men and women. When I was a child growing up all I wanted to be is Master Chief. I love being a leader and assist others. Tell the story. Keep Halo alive my friends.

I gotta say one thing 343 has done right is the Halo 2 anniversary, it was fun to play it again but with updated action packed cutscenes. It's as close as u can get to watching a halo movie.
The amount of detail they put into the emotions of the marines is crazy. They look genuinely terrified for their lives. I wish I could see it in person there's so many faces we don't get to see. Also I love how Chief looks up with the grenade sans rifle and is like "yeah I got this"
When the Master Chief's head tilts up at the end, the hairs on my arms literally stood straight up. Massive chills, one of the best advertising campaigns for any game I've ever seen.

Ghoulish gyro what? Halo 2’s campaign was incredible. I like Halo 3 but the arbiter and chief basically don’t even acknowledge each other’s existence save for one or two moments in the entire campaign. Halo 2 was very fleshed out and had amazing character progression for arbiter. Amazing story in general.
Hell yeah!!!
A sad day for our boys in green. 1/13/2022, I wasn't there for the end. But I was there since the very beginning. To all you folks who stood your ground before the servers shut down. Thank you, thank you for fighting the good fight. We knew the fight had to finish one day, but I wish we never had to witness it. Rest in peace, Halo servers on the 360. May we continue our legacy in the MCC and may that never burnout.
its been an honor spartan.
I was there on day 1…. And I was there on the last…. It hurts.
@@randipoling635 i found a cool group of people a few weeks after shutdown, they had a discord server but at the time i didnt have it, but i got to play halo 3 after shutdown and its so much better than mcc.
I was online when the servers were shut down. It was beautiful, everyone was talking on their headsets just reminiscing with total strangers.

The greatest trailer for a video game ever. You can't beat Chopin.
Raindrop Prelude is top shelf stuff
Seeing master chief raise his head gives me goosebumps to this day
I've recently read the books and now know how dangerous the brutes really are, and how devastating the covenant weapons can be.
The games rarely do justice to show how grossly outmatched humanity truly was. A few lucky breaks were all that separated them from extinction.
@@thewarner2139 dam
the great schism and really the arbiter are the only reasons humanity survives. my only complaint of Halo 3 is I wish they displayed that hopelessness a bit more and made you feel the weight of just how much the shangheli helped
That's big considering, I can't remember if it was Will or Fred. But one of those Spartan's specialties were hand to hand combat and even threw fists and beat a Hunter in unarmed combat in the book Ghosts of Onyx
This also shows the true meaning of war. Just look at those marines. How scared and defeated they look.
If you are still alive after 8 years, I have to say to you, I love your comment. War is hell
This video was incredible.
deliver of hope for halo reach
Raptah Jesus deliver of hope for halo reach
I couldn't agree more. They just try too hard & not just with the trailers. They use to be a lot more creative as well with their games. Most of the companies have moved too far away from what made games great like back in the good old days (90's for me when i was born).
To be fair Gear of war capture the essence in their trailers. although the characters move
One of the greatest ad campaigns ever conceived.
The greatest*
No video game has ever had a better series of advertisements than Halo 3, even Halo Reach or ODST's ads weren't as good as this.
First we Believed. Then we Delivered Hope. Now, we need to Discover Hope.
We also remembered Reach. But never did we Hunt the Truth.
@@MondySpartan NGL, still feel bloody scammed by that marketing campaign, had virtually nothing to do with the game.
One of the best Video Game ads I've ever seen.
I still believe that Halo can make a comeback.
Never forget the franchise that Bungie made. Never forget the entertainment it brought us. Never forget Halo. Rest in peace. 2001-2010
PhantomMori never forget Reach
PhantomMori Fuck off, Halo isn't dead.
Here are some corrections:
Josh Holmes isn't the head of 343i, he is one of its leaders, like Bonnie Ross, and he isn't leaving yet but soon.
Every once in a while I’ll come back to this commercial just to remind myself how good old Halo was with Bungie.
What always gets me is when chief turns to look at the camera, gives me chills

The saddest part is, we'll probably never get an era of gaming like this again. And what I mean is seeing THIS level of passion, love and care for games, as an art form if you will.
The lore, backstory, gameplay, and characters have made Halo my favorite game franchise of all time and I hope like humanity it will endure and shine brightly even under new leadership of 343i.
top comment, now
Well, at first to me it was just this game about take the Assault Rifle, grab headshot capable weapon, deal with grunt minions guarding brute leader, throw a few stickys back melee brute and move on...
...but when you put it like that...

Then 343 came, and fucked it all up.

Just to share a memory; I remember watching this trailer over & over while on my grandmas couch… when I close my eyes and listen to the music I can still see both her & my father, now both deceased watching it with me; I see the couch, the giant Tv from the 90s she refused to replace, everything. The memories of playing Halo 3 with my cousins in that same space come flooding back as well… it’s like it was just yesterday we were snot nosed kids playing on the 360… I remember playing, and owning my dad in Halo 3 Forge, later in Reach, but we would still laugh & smile through it all…now we’re adults and so many of the adults who watched us play are dead and gone…but all I can say is thank you for the memories Bungie… I doubt anyone who worked on these games will ever realize how much impact they had on us, but y’all deserve to.
For all the disappointing nostalgia trips I've had, ones like this hit me hard for how much it really holds up as much as it did for me as it as a kid.
