No wonder your grandmother lived so long! I really admire how she took care of her health and always made sure she looked nice even if she had nowhere to go. I think with the pandemic, many of us have been wearing pjs and sweatpants for too long. My grandfather was Chinese and he also lived till his late 90’s. He was pescatarian, and would always drink one bowl of herbal soup before dinner. He would wake up at 5am every day and do Tai Chi. Your video reminded me a lot of my grandfather! Thank you!
We started eating Japanese style breakfasts a few months back and just love it. Loved hearing about your grandmother. Full makeup and a kimono everyday? Wow!
wow! I would love to see your style of Japanese breakfast! So happy to hear it! I can't imagine myself having full make-up when I become 95... haha I don't even put much make-up now in 30s.... haha thank you for your comment Naomi!
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking You should warn westerners about this being so carb heavy. A lot of people in the Americas mostly drive and don't walk and exercise that much so eating a diet that is mostly carbs can be very bad for them!
@@feifongwong4138 the standard American diet has many more carbs than a bit of rice, tofu and some vegetables, much of those carbs is sugar, even something as plain as bread is sweet in America...eating Japanese food would be an improvement, lol
I took inspiration from Japan and tried to incorporate their healthy eating ideas to my country the UK. Basically, I've found we can provide pretty much provide everything we need if we were to eat locally or even nationally. Potatoes as a carbohydrate and vegetable, broccoli, cauliflower or carrot as other vegetables, and fish or meat in general for a protein. We've even got oils like rapeseed or sunflower oil (the latter contains omega 3) and salt, which helps massively for taste. As a plus, we also have a lot of sweet foods like rhubarb, beetroot and apples. We could make sweet sauces with that! Without the internet, I never would of figured this out. So thank you Japan for giving me ideas 👍
What a shame we didn't have a chance to see and get to know your grandmother. She sounds like a lovely person! She raised good people. Thank you for sharing this.
And it's so very very simple. I've switched my diet alot since Sept 2020 and eastern style cuisines have been helping me with weight loss and overall body healht
It looks like the same foods we eat in the countryside with my grandma in the Philippines. We had a porridge cooked in Coconut milk. Added a little bit salt or cane sugar. Then, we had homemade made cacao chocolate drinks or homemade roasted rice or coffee. Or we had boiled Plantain, sweet potato, or Cassava. Eaten with broiled dried fish or fried dried fish. Sometimes, plain cooked rice with fried eggs. Healthy breakfast made by grandma's in the morning. Love Japanese cooking. Healthy organic foods. Thanks for sharing your videos. Take care. 🥰🥰🥰
I would love to experience a traditional Japanese breakfast. Such clean, simple and high quality ingredients. Your great grandma im sure is smiling down as you're honoring her memory and also sharing something so powerful as food and memory with your viewers. I love it! This made me cry, i can tell you really loved your grandma. I just lost my grandma a month ago. This brought up good memories with her though thank you
thank you very much for your kind comment Shake! the house in the video is a typical traditional Japanese house! If you ever come to Japan in the future, please stay at Ryokan for the experience!
Mt grandmother passed away in 2014, seeing a video of someone honoring a (great) grandmother with sharing a typical made she used to make it beautiful to see. Inspired me to try and recreate one of the dishes that she always made for our family during Easter back home. Very nice video.
This is so lovely! When I lived in the same city as my parents, I would drive about an hour to their house every Sunday for brunch. They would cook a full American breakfast with fluffy scrambled eggs, bacon, etc. or Eggs Benedict. It was so delicious, but more than that, I loved being able to spend time with them. It was our special thing (I still enjoy it when I visit them during the year). This video reminds me of those times. Food brings us together and is the heart of a family.
I love Japanese meals because of all the different flavor combinations, a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. So satisfying! I am growing shisho this year and I need to actually use it!
Hi Miwa-san....your grandma sounded like a wonderful lady. Living on her own until she was 95!! Sugoi!! When my parents were alive, Mom often made Dad gohan, shio salmon, kyuri salad, tofu with bonito flakes and green tea for his breakfast. Lovely memories. Thank you for this 😊🙏🏼🇨🇦
sugoi yone!! I'm very proud of how she coped with herself until 95 years old! I didn't realize how impressive that was when I was 10. If I could go back, there are so many things I wanna ask! your parents cooked just like my mom do for my dad! sounds very comforting! thank you for sharing wonderful memory of yours Janet-san!
This is awesome! Older Taiwanese also used to eat this way, I also learned to eat rice porridge in the morning. I usually do combinations of 香米, 芋香米, 糙米 or any brown rice, white rice, millet, wheat, and red&black rice, sometimes adding taro, pumpkin, sweet potato, water chestnuts, lotus root... this I've learned from old-fashioned Buddhist Taiwanese cooks. But my favourite is just plain fragrant brown rice, Taiwanese organic rice that smells like heaven! It feels so healthy and filling, especially in winter! I usually soak it in the rice cooker right before I sleep and turn it on as soon as I wake up, around 5, it cooks for 20 minutes or so then sits for an hour, and it's so creamy, doesn't feel like brown rice at all! Rice cooker is such a time saver! In summer it's too hot, so I've switched to regular fluffy rice or other foods like avocado toast, but I'm looking forward to going back to my Japanese/Taiwanese staples. Thank you for the inspiration! I will try it!
We have red and green Shiso in the garden, also Myoga, amongst other herbs. Tofu we make ourselves, Ume-Boshi we get from Japan, also Kombu and Wakame. Kabu and Daikon we have from the grocery with stable supply. Our rice is from Portugal (Koshihikari). I love this kind of breakfast. Greetings from Germany.
I loved sharing the precious memories of your grandmother. It made me think of my own grandmothers. Wouldn't it be wonderful to share a meal with them once more.
So beautiful for you to pay homage to your great grandmother. I'm sure she is so proud of you sharing her recipes. How special you got to have that. These all look delicious and cozy. Thank you

I fell in love with your videos! Watching them makes me feel peaceful and relaxed. I really admire your attitude towards every single ingredient. Besides, It makes me feel warm to hear the story about you and your great-grandma, she sounds so elegant. Beautiful memories.
Oh, this looks amazing. As a plant-based westerner I often have trouble finding satisfying breakfasts and typically just have a protein shake. This seems like something very good to try
This is so lovely. I loved hearing about your great grandma and learning about new ingredients. She must have lived to a hundred eating such healthy meals! Thank you for sharing your culture and your stories. New supporter here!
I appreciate this video!! Once Ojiichan died, Obaachan tried to pass away herself, but she was too healthy! She ate similar meals, did her hair and makeup without going out, and passed 45 years later at almost 100 years!❤
Thank you for being so generous with the recipes. It was a beautiful vlog. Your grandmother loved you a lot in sharing such special Sundays with you. Those special times makes me think of my grandma. Thank you.
I would love to try this breakfast recipe. Your great grandmother would be so very proud to know you were honoring her by cooking her recipes. She's still there with you in spirit. Your great grandmother knew how to do it, she did what made her happy especially when it came to food. Food should make you happy and hopefully nourish you at the same time.
Everything seems so delicate and prepared with care. No rushing to add ingredients or items to the pot. Everything has to wait until it's time. This goes against the modern trend of rushing, seems we've all forgotten how to sit down to enjoy a meal, that's why it's so precious. Love this so much. Thank you for sharing. I have a Japanese grandma and a Filipino grandma. Both mostly ate their traditional foods the majority of their lives, which as you shared was simple and mostly vegetables. Most of my Filipino grandma's produce came from their own or neighbor's yard (trees) and garden. Feel so blessed to have had them and the beautiful experiences they shared with me. Much love to you

I’m so glad I discovered your channel! I don’t have access to a lot of these ingredients as an American in a rural area, but thank you for sharing this!!!

I love these type of videos. I’m glad you shared this with the world. If we don’t remember our ancestors then they die to the world. I’m from the Southern United States and I would love one of my grandmothers home made hamburgers. Not as health as your grandmas food but the memories are there.
We Kazakhs/ Eurasians also eat food from small bowls called kese which is about the same size as shown in this video. Small bowl of rice with toppings. Eating healthy and looking healthy is a motto among Asians. My maternal relatives all lived to their 90s. My mom is in her mid 80s.
Such a wonderful story of your great grandmother! The food looks so good. My mother used to make me rice porridge when I was sick when I was a child. I never thought to eat it any other time!
Thank you so much! I have gone back to eating my Japanese breakfast Vegan version. When you speak of your grandmother it reminds me of my Japanese Grandmother ( we called her Bachan) I lived with her during my University days in Japan my home stay family was right next door just like your's. We always sat together and had those golden conversations! she always waited until I came back from my part time work ( aru baito) and then we had some ocha after ofuru before bed. She always taught me of everything about life and those good conversations always stayed with me!!! she also made my and my home stay sister's breakfast box ( bento box ) before Uni early in the morning! I really miss her now that I'm back in Australia! I haven't seen her for couple of years ! she's in her late 80's now! she's still Genki and going strong :) Thank you for this video xx
This was very special. Thank you for sharing this. It is rare to find such a personal way of eating. I am finding better health with eating traditional Japanese food. I look forward to making this meal and telling your story to my wife and mother when we share this food.
Thumbs up. She can cook, proper way of using knife and all. Hate to see so many "cooking shows and channels" that the person don't event know how to use a knife properly. We should have more people like this.

Wow thank you for sharing what your grandma made for breakfast and how to eat it! How special to honor her memory :) And it’s fun that you can customize the breakfast how you like!
The mixing of the Miso on the spoon before making the miso shiru and the fragrance that comes out..I could be there for ever watching and smelling that....I also have Japanese roots from my Maternal Grandmother....I love the dishes she makes for us everytime we used to visit her during holidays...but it was 15-16 years back before she passed away.....
Thank you for sharing your beautiful memories and recipes. I love the clean and healthy eating that your family has carried on throughout your generations. I would love to eat this kind of food if I can find all of the ingredients.

Hi Miwa. I enjoyed this video so much! It gave me some good breakfast ideas. You picked the perfect background music - it set up a sweet, peaceful mood.
Thank you very much for your kind word!! I'm so happy to hear that this video gave you some peaceful moment!! also, I'm very appreciated to have your feedback regarding editing!! you made my work meaningful!!! 😊🙏
I love these type of videos. I’m glad you shared this with the world. If we don’t remember our ancestors then they die to the world. I’m from the Southern United States and I would love one of my grandmothers home made hamburgers. Not as health as your grandmas food but the memories are there.
memories are priceless!!!! Thank you Dalton!
Great memories that need to be kept alive. Thank you sharing the recipes 💕💐
thank you very much for your kind word!!
Thank you for sharing. Our grandparents are so special!!
yes! They are ! We all have something to learn from them! 🙏 Thank you very much for your kind comment Kathy!!

You're grandma must be proud of you 💝
Thank you for sharing these amazing recipes and your stories/memories. This was so lovely to listen to.
What a sweet memory of your grandmother! ❤️🥰
Thank you very much for your kind word !
This was very special. Thank you for sharing this. It is rare to find such a personal way of eating. I am finding better health with eating traditional Japanese food. I look forward to making this meal and telling your story to my wife and mother when we share this food.
i love how u do stuff in ur grandmathers memory! finally a japanesse vegan channel
Thumbs up. She can cook, proper way of using knife and all. Hate to see so many "cooking shows and channels" that the person don't event know how to use a knife properly. We should have more people like this.
This is already one of my favorite videos of all time

What a beautiful way to honour your great grandma! And the food looks totally delicious 😋
