I believe my life was saved by miso soup. When I was attending the University of Minnesota I was so hungry that went to find food. I worked at a Chinese restaurant and loved the food I ate at work. I went to the food court and found nothing appealing or affordable except for Miso Soup from a little stand. I ordered and sat for lunch. My favorite soups all had green onion garnish and good flavor. Miso soup with just Tofu and green onion satisfied my flavor wish and stomach and nourished me for the rest of the day of learning. @@JapaneseCookingChannel so my Miso paste came in today, the same one that you use, all the writing is in Japanese, could you tell me about how long will it stay good once it’s open, and do I have to keep it in the refrigerator? Also how long will it last unopened and can that be stored on a shelf or in the refrigerator? I bought two of them. Thank you so much, you are such a nice lady. .😊
It's wonderful! You bought the same miso as I did. It's Kyo-kaiseki miso right? Is there a print on the side of the miso labeled "賞味期限" date? That is basic shelf life, but if it is unopened, it can be eaten for six months (some people say even one year) after that time. Please note, however, that its expiration date is only valid if it is unopened. And as for storage, if unopened, it can be stored at room temperature. Please keep it in a cool, dark place. Always store sealed miso in the refrigerator. Ideally, once opened, miso should be sealed to prevent exposure to air. (Some may transfer the product to an airtight container after opening.) However, I use it up in about a month, so I keep it refrigerated with the miso lid on, without transferring the container. Ideally, opened miso should be refrigerated and consumed within 2-3 months if possible. However, I checked online and some places say you can eat them for up to a year if they are kept refrigerated. If you want to keep opened miso for six months to a year, you may want to freeze it. They say that frozen miso can be kept for a year. Freezing prevents the growth of bacteria and keeps the flavor intact. Incidentally, miso, by its nature, does not freeze to a crisp even when frozen, so it can be used in cooking without hassle. These recipes look so easy and good! I might actually try the meatballs and okra one as an introduction to okra. I don't think me or anyone in my family has ever eaten okra, but if it's crunchy cooked like that then it sounds good. My only addition is a tip for you. I think the first part of the recipe should be making and searing the meatballs in your empty soup pot. You can put the cooked meatballs in a soup bowl you're going to use temporarily. Then you just add your water and scrape the brown bits with a wooden spoon so they can help flavor the soup. Then you can just continue the recipe like normal.

@@JapaneseCookingChannel thank you so much. I am Ukrainian, its difficult here to find Mochiko flour. So, just can get glutinous rice flour from Thailand i guess. And one question how to store mochi. Thank you
Regular rice cakes (used for meals that are cut into thicker pieces) can be frozen for long-term storage. However, very thin mochi used for Daifuku are better eaten the same day they are made or the day after. I believe that refrigeration or freezing would considerably reduce the texture.
I love your channel!! I have been watching your videos and learning so much. I got to go to an oriental supermarket in my area this weekend and grabbed a ton of ingredients to start making my own misos & Japanese style breakfasts at home! ❤️❤️ Thank you

I never realised miso soup was so simple to make, thankyou.
In the UK, we can get miso soup in packets as a soup drink but miso paste and fish flakes are very hard to find.
Yes! Miso soup is so easy to make. Hope you can try that sometime.
How about buying miso online? I put the links just in case.

@@JapaneseCookingChannel i be waiting for your mochi recipe☺🤩it is was my favorite treat, when i was in Japan.
Oh! You like mochi 😆 Me too!
This is old video, but maybe you can try making it.
ruclips.net/video/gUdfF82tJ0k/видео.html
I think I will make more mochi recipe in the future 😁👍
@@JapaneseCookingChannel thank you so much. I am Ukrainian, its difficult here to find Mochiko flour. So, just can get glutinous rice flour from Thailand i guess. And one question how to store mochi. Thank you
Regular rice cakes (used for meals that are cut into thicker pieces) can be frozen for long-term storage. However, very thin mochi used for Daifuku are better eaten the same day they are made or the day after. I believe that refrigeration or freezing would considerably reduce the texture.
miso soup is the best comfort soup ever. could have it every day.😋
Oh, that's great!
In Japan, it is said that drinking miso soup every day is good for your health.
Hope you enjoy various miso soup 😊

I pray for the birth of a healthy baby! Please take care 😊
I absolutely love miso soup and the first one showed is the one in familiar with, its affordable and I love the taste of tofu, sadly here in Peru might be hard to find some of those ingredients such as Dashi, so idk if someday I'll get a chance for cooking this delicious dish, I'm not sure if it will taste the same without it
You can make miso soup without dashi. It tastes even better with dashi, but I think you can still enjoy miso soup.
@@JapaneseCookingChannel oh really? thanks!! Gonna give it a try!
Greetings from Russia. I love miso soup and thank you for such simple recipes. I was very surprised by the milk miso. A very unusual combination of ingredients for us. Спасибо большое!
Спасибо большое!
Thanks for watching my video! Yes, it's unusual but soooo tasty combination. Hope you can try that 😆
@@JapaneseCookingChannel I will definitely try this recipe😇. I will continue to learn Japanese cuisine using your recipes. It's a pity that not all products can be purchased from us😢
Thank you so much! Please let me know when you need some substitute, I can maybe help you!
@@JapaneseCookingChannel Oh thanks. I have been interested in Japanese culture for many years and, thanks to various sources, I have learned to find substitute products. And in the last couple of years, we have been developing the import of products from Asian countries. This year I finally found dashi, Hitomebore rice, and Hagoromo seasoning for rice. I hope I translated the names correctly☺
You did correctly! Wow! That's amazing 😆 I'm so glad now you can get some ingredients from Asian countries. Please enjoy cooking Japanese dishes with them 😊
I love miso soup! Thank you for demonstrating so many variety of miso soups. I love all the veg you used. I’m trying to use more variety of veg due to health condition. I love the simple format you used.
Thank you so much for watching my video! I'm so glad you liked these miso soup recipes :D I love using variety of veg in miso soup too!
Thanks for the help, I'm making miso soup for my friends, this is a great help for new recipes.
Thank you so much!! Please enjoy various miso soup with your friends!!
I love the simplicity of the dishes. We'll make the first recipe since it's the one that's vegan 🥡🍜🥣🍱
Thank you so much!!
Please enjoy delicious vegan miso soup😘
You could always add mushrooms too, instead of the meats. I usually bake them with little olive oil(salt+pepper) and use that on my soups. And I will try the last one with coconut milk 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 hopefully it tastes good too.
Replace the meat with vegetables or vegan meat.
Dashi isnt vegan but you can find vegan dashi probably, or use vegetable stock together with the miso
I loveee this video. I immediately started following cause i like how well you show everything and how got directly to the food
Thank you so much!! I'm so glad to hear that :) Enjoy the miso soup!
~When my father got cancer, and said hed rather die than have to eat tofu, i made him miso soup with shittake mushrooms, tofu & nori, all good for reversing cancer, but didnt tell him what was in it till he ate some~He loved it & it opened his mind up to heal his cancer naturally~
I would rather die too, than eat tofu. I make the traditional miso soup with just wakame and spring onions. And sometimes I add a few slices of chili.
I just moved to an apartment & looking for healthy, non-fried recipes that i can do within 45 mins. Your video is my life saver!!!

I love miso soup. Can eat it all day every day. After spending some time in S. Korea I now like my food spicy, so I usually put into my soup whatever I feel like, kimchi, ghost peppers, eggs other stuff. My favorite tho is curry miso soup that I had few times in Japan. Never knew tho that you can make one with milk! That was amazing.
Thank you so much for your comment!
Wow! You are such a miso soup master! I love kimchi, so I should try that! And, curry miso soup sounds good too:D
Yea! Milk miso soup is also very tasty, so please try it some day!😊
@@JapaneseCookingChannel For any case, just like miso paste don't boil kimchi for the same reason - health benefits. Kimchi is already good and best if added after the soup is ready ;)

I love miso soup. I wish I could eat every day at breakfast, but it's not common to eat "dinner/lunch food" at morning here in my country
You can eat miso soup for lunch or dinner too! I do that often :)
Thank you for these delicious recipes ! What type of sausage to you use in your milk miso soup? Thank you. 😀
Thank you for watching my video!
The sausage in the middle of the picture on this site is closest to the one I used.
We call it "Wiener Sausages" in Japan.

But, you can use any type of sausage! Bacon and ham are also good substitute:)

I am currently unable to eat for days and your videos are wonderful. I am going to make each soup when I am better!!
Question: What Miso paste are you using because you said it has stock in it too. I would like to try and buy the Miso you use. Again. Thank you for your videos and I am excited to see your other videos! Have a wonderful day!! “ oi-yasumi-nasai “. :-)
Thank you so much for watching my video! I hope you feel better soon and try some miso soup.
The miso paste I use is this brand 👉 bit.ly/3LWVlKq
I'm not sure if you can find the exact same thing, so I also give you the link of miso with dashi stock in it 👉 amzn.to/3tI4XSi
Actually, you can use normal miso (without dashi), and just add dashi powder!
Please make miso soup any way you like 😊
Take care, and Have a great day!
