    Wow a Galaxy Class core in such a small ship, its a muscle car of a starship :) It would make a really nice plucky hero ship even without its special warp jump if it works as well as it looks on paper. Between the generous power generation capability, weapons coverage and potential warp redundancy, I honestly feel like its only down side would probably be... pretty cramped living quarters by Next Generation standards. But probably no worse than what people had during the TMP era, honestly.

    Normally I'm not a fan of three nacelle designs but this one I like. The extended hull at the back is also unique. Although I like having the chunky strut for the third nacelle, I'm not sure how safe it is having a cargo bay / shuttle bay underneath it is. Even with the third nacelle, she's sleek. She perfectly fits in with the other Project Galaxy ships but the detail makes her look more refined than her older sisters, especially around the deflector. It's a great narrative too. It would be great to have a video showcasing groups of ships of a generation. TOS/TMP era, Excelsior era, Project Galaxy era. Anyway, great vid.

    This kit bash is excellently done! And, as always, the story is (chef's kiss). You're adding wonderful pieces of information into the franchise's history and lore, like this nugget.
    Although three nacelle designs in Star Trek are hit or miss, this one works well at looking credible (especially when compared to the Niagara Class for instance). I really appreciate how this ship flows together from slightly disparate parts into a completely viable Project: Galaxy ship. I also see what you did with the lead designer working on the Luna. 😂
    Superb work as always!

    This was a great video. The narrative is a great story telling of a ship that could have been cannon. I do wish that (even though costly for the studio) we got to see more star ship design in the series. We were limited already established ships. I love how you tied in how we went from the golden age of the galaxy class to a new era of technology for all intents on Protection of all worlds from a deadly enemy. Trying to say war ships.
    I would love to see how the federation got the idea for better war ships. Like consulting Klingon engineers on improving weapon systems. I am sure there are other war focused allies whom have better tactical systems or strategic battle plans layouts they could teach.

    She's a beautiful design, love the traces of the New Orleans-class, Freedom-class, and Luna-class because it makes her look like a well-crafted starship. The overhead/dorsal view definitely shows the V-shaped New Orleans-class body that makes her look elegant and shows the age she was supposed to live in, the Luna-clas deflector and angled forward section of the secondary hull makes her look agile and semi-robust (if engaging in combat), and the Freedom-class look with the third nacelle makes her look like she could be faster than she firt appears.
    A nicely designed kitbash design, especially with the long "lip" at the rear of the secondary hull accentuates the design. Combining the Doubleday with the Luna by having them share a designer is a beautiful touch, makes her seem like the equivalent of a supermodel compared to how the majority of other starships seem more like they're just beautiful.

    Instead of the third nacelle, I think a Nebula class-like weapons pod would look really good. That would also fit in nicely with the idea that this design was a forerunner to the Luna class

  • @JimmyBlether
    @JimmyBlether Год назад

    A Luna plus a New Orleans works rather well, the compact secondary hull suits it well.
    Problem with the nacelle pylon hangar though: how do you fit it in plus the jump drive/space fold system (weak coaxial warp system) and the primary pylon warp plasma conduit.
    Maybe if the third nacelle was tweaked in being moved forwards and a separation plane added, you could jettison the secondary hull and have a warp capable escape vehicle too, like sometimes is the case for the Federation class.

With which a short production run. It wouldn't make sense to refit it to keep up with the post Borg ship designs. I've had a similar idea for a new propulsion system, that I have included in a small number of my ship designs.
    There are 2 "normal" warp nacelles, for normal warp travel, and either 1 or 2 additional (but smaller) nacelles (depending on the ship), working off a second warp core, to produce a secondary warp field (at a different "resonance frequency"), which interacts with the original field, to achieve a slightly different version of "co-axial warp drive"... producing an effect similar to a minor, temporary "worm hole" to give the ship the ability to travel at faster than warp speed, for a short time, and only in a straight line.

    I like it. Adding it to my headcanon, wherein Starfleet has a sister service, the Federation Survey Corps, more civilian and directly tied to the old UESPA. Survey has a strong preference for three-nacelled ships ("triremes"), and used them even when Fleet would not. My view is a third nacelle does not increase maximum speed by much; that is a factor of the state of warp coil material science and how hard you can drive them with a warp core. Cooling is, to mangle a metaphor, baked in; at emergency speeds, however, overheating is inevitable. Three nacelles are firstly more efficient at delivering power (less subspace damage, when that was a concern) than 2 or four (see 3-phase motor diagrams for explanation), and secondly divide the _work_ of achieving maximum speed 3 ways instead of 2. This grants higher cruising (sustainable) speed and longer endurance at maximum warp. Strategically, you get further before you have to check down to cool your engines, and have high odds or arriving on scene with less stressed engines, meaning higher tactical readiness.

    I've never been fond of tri-nacelle designs but the lore is nice, and I've always preferred small and midsized designs to the heavy classes. Among my earliest exposures to non-TV or movie Trek lore was the now utterly non-canon Spaceflight Chronology which stated that Starfleet's first attempt to create a tri-nacelle design was an utter disaster, and the worst major ship Starfleet ever constructed because of problems caused by the presence of three warp nacelles. Not a single ship of the class ever managed to finish an assigned tour of duty because they always had to return to drydock for major repairs before their tour was complete due to technical problems.
