Yeah Star Trek is how a certain ideology thinks their ideal future is going to be, but in reality turns out to be the worst aspects of Demolition Man, and only the best option of how it would turn out.
We've seen what happens as a result if Starfleet didn't make combat ready ships. Remember the "Golden Age of Exploration"? That's how you get the Galaxy. It took a TON of resources and effort to get that unicorn of a ship ready for the Borg and Dominion. Q did nothing wrong. He woke the Federation up to the fact while they have great ideals, there's just some parts of the galaxy that would rather them dead. Very bad things in the dark. After all, there's Quadrillions of sentients among hundreds of species in the Federation. Every planet glassed, captured, or assimilated could potentially wipe a species from the galaxy.
Seeing this ole Gal receive a new lease on life makes me wonder if our Earth-bound ( short of a Star Blazers or Robotech future occurrence ) Nimitz-class ships could also be overhauled to such an extent... The Nimitz herself has actually reached and gone past the timeframe for which she was to be put out to pasture but due to the delays in incorporating the new Ford-class into the fleet. It sure wouldn't be cheap but it might be less than a new Ford-class or even one of her make and given that they are already going to have to dismantle her to get to her reactors why not refit rather than scrap. Great as always on the wordsmithing and bountiful visuals.
@@randybentley2633 Having served on Nimitz class, USS Eisenhower CVN 69, I can tell you that the majority of her engineering systems are 1960's technology. Particularly the ship's environmental systems are steam heat and chill water heat exchanger type cooling. The Tertiary loop of the Reboiler/ship service steam were already notoriously leaky, when I served 1986-1990. Ike was only in her early teens, commissioned in 1976. The Reactor control electronics were Radiation hardened by lacking even a single IC Chip. Neutron radiation embrittlement of the reactor vessel itself has made start up heat up and shutdown cool off times 2-3 times longer than when it was new to prevent temperature differential brittle fractures. Some of the steel of CVN 65 USS Enterprise has been used to build the New USS Enterprise CVN 80.
"Churning them out like a tribble in heat" that line really got me 😂😂 I love watching your videos, you have a talent for amazing storytelling. I totally agree with everyone else here, you should be hired by the trek writers.
From 2360 - 2390: devastating wars with Cardassia, Klingons, Borg, Dominion and Romulan proxies (synths). Federation Council Members: Why do we need warships. Starfleet: *sigh*
Everytime they play the “we are pacifist” storyline or “we don’t make warships” I think back to the shear number of wars Star fleet has gotten into with everyone from the Gorn to the Klingons to the Founders to the Borg. Yeah they are peaceful and the federation is good at diplomacy and science but when your manual has General order 24 in it, does it matter if you have a warship doing it or a science tug. So have some warships, it really can’t hurt.
I just had a crazy idea for the transwarp coil-thingy... use it as a passive weapon. "Accidentally" let the technology fall into enemy hands, then watch as they destroy their own ships trying to use it. 🙂
What a Great Ship, It just goes to show how Dangerous Starfleet can be with the Europa, Akira, Defiant ect, when the dic**(cough) morons of the Federation council Allow Starfleet to Show there Teeth. Honestly Starfleet Should have Two Branches Exploration/Science and Military/defence.
the Variable Payload Launch Tubes (VPLT's?) are something I have thought about before is star trek ship designs. allows for a massive variety of combinations during combat that I wish was seen on screen more. enter the fray with a spread of tachyon charges to disrupt shields, followed by quantum torpedoes, maybe throw a few tri-cobalt devices into the mix for fun. it's a smart design decision
16 sounds quite reasonable considering that there were many of the Nimitz class already constructed and refitted to be the Europa Class, so 16 additional ships is reasonable.
Great video and true we love peace but we also must be ready for war the enemies don't care about peace but in order to protect the peace we must be ready 🖖
Great video! I usually love the sto designs, but there is something about this one that leaves me wanting... The Nimitz class is so majestic and impressive that I find the STO variant to lose most of the original's appeal
I was looking at it and wondering you said 16 built yet 8 recovered so be around 24 of the vessels allowing them to cover the 6 angles of the Federation with 2 pairs in Federation space and 2 pars on each of the outers
How about next you do the Prius Class. Starfleet's first hybrid electric ship. Though slower, uglier and far less capable than all other ships, the captains of these vessels would insist on enlarged bridge windows, so they could sneer at the crews of other vessels in a smug display of imagined superiority. Weaponry consisted of self-righteous haughtiness and the ability to suddenly merge in front of those dilithium-guzzling monstrosities and slow them to a crawl.
This reminds me of my tos Connie in sto t6x she looks old but has all the guts of a 25th century ship with mk xv tmp era undiscovered pulse phasers and kelvin photons
The term Battlewagon doesn't do this ship justice. Wartrain would be a better moniker for a ship that brings everything & the caboose, which it Will throw at you.
Only because I'm playing a variant of it on STO at min, wouldnt the Europa class be considered a Miranda variant, it would be one if you got rid of the upper nascelles.
Regarded as one of the worst ships in game, being a sluggish vessel only good for soaking up enemy fire, it does prove to be a heavy weight in the shooting back department

Another beautiful four-nacelle design!
Your truth or myth series of beta Canon are my favorite videos that you make.
That’s one very nice looking starship.
Tribbles in heat. Line was a gem.
Defiant's phase cannons on the Steamrunner would be awesome.
Really funny with the Tribbles comparison to the inquiry class🤣
Just this once, Rose, EVERYBODY LIVES!

I would sleep comfortably on that ship knowing that I was totally safe.
That's how I felt sleeping and serving on USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN69. Hurricane Hugo was an Interesting experience.

Sweet ship!
It seems like a more powerful take on the Miranda classes concept with a quad nacel layout.
Just what I was thinking 🙂
OK, who would sign a petition to get at least Cryptic if not full on Paramount to give TriAngulum a gig writing background lore for Star Trek?
Ive never been a fan of starships with four warp nacelles but in this case the Europa class looks beautiful with four
Europa refit... Seems to me it is definitely a result of the quote, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." Lol
Maybe that's why it lasted so long?
I'll take one.

The Europa is a cleverly designed ship... Pretty much a 25th century Miranda.
Ablative neutronium.... these two words shall not be uttered in succession .. Engineering General Order 18 ;)
It's a cool ship, but you can only beam to it because you can attempt no landings there.

Uhm… aren’t Tribbles ALWAYS “in heat”
True…they always are…
thought europa class was in discovery series one during the battle of bineary stars
No that was the Nimitz Class... And the Starship USS Europa of the Nimitz Class was destroyed tat the Battle!
Know what I don't get? Why discovery never did anything with Trans warp conduits.
Only because I'm playing a variant of it on STO at min, wouldnt the Europa class be considered a Miranda variant, it would be one if you got rid of the upper nascelles.
Unfortunately In canon that wouldnt work though, since the Europa Class is a Nimitz Class refit, predating the Miranda Class by 50 years!
It only used the slipstream drive for a short period at a time? Why didn’t Voyager do that? 🙄
Because Voyager couldnt! ;) :P
Upgrade and refit them with new technologies. Ships like the the Defiant. Who knew.
Easier to simply build new, then to completely refit an entire fleet!
i would have used hulls rather than hulks....it maybe be me being a military brat upbringing. (Army BTW) but it gets on my nerves.
Im fine with the term Hulks!
