I have the 2022 Dual Motor, same color as yours, no plus or performance pack. Never had the TCAM issue, but I did have the Battery Disconnect Unit (BDU) fail on my last trip in September and my car spent two and half months at Polestar Los Angeles waiting on the part to come in. Now it's repaired and hopefully nothing else goes wrong!
I just bought this car getting it delivered in the coming weeks fully decked out bought it cuz I was in the market and teslas are just so hideous, have had a lot of Volvos love them so I got this one made a lot of sense to me. I’m insanely excited about the purchase. Might not be the same lvl of performance as a Tesla but it makes up for it being quality and looks great way better interior and exterior on this vehicle
Good review and information, thanks
Wonderfully balanced review! Great job 👌
Nice review. 2021 owner here. I like the car especially the hatchback design. The AC is very flaky and on a recent 90 degree day was blowing warm air. I also had a TCAM issue and the service center fixed it but recently I was locked out using the junk app and I had no GPS or internet connections. I'm taking it in to service next week. Great car when it's not broken.
Totally agree. My tcam was out on road trip and it was so annoying not having nav or music. My service center replaced my tcam and it’s been working fine since.
I bought a Universal cup folder for strollers, you put it on the middle side storage.
Works perfect, get a 2nd cup holder without losing the arm rest.
Do you have the link to it ?
Nice review 🙂.
Totally agree about the external looks.
Shame about the range, but I guess you tend to use the performance 😂.
I have the upgraded harmon kardon sound system. It's super clear. Bass could be a bit better but the mids/highs are crispy clear. I agree the cupholders are vexing but i usually commute solo so it's not much of an issue for me. I can set the climate to low in the app and am surprised you cannot. Mine is set for farenheit not centigrade.
Edit for an error: app sets climate for whatever the precious setting was. I cannot alter it remotely.
I'm in Australia and have just done winter, using the parking climate prior to getting into the car early in the morning it is definitely not set at 22 celsius. It knows the temp outside and adjusts accordingly, so when it's 4 degrees Celsius out and i preheat the cabin before getting in - it's positively TOASTY inside - so you could easily melt snow off the windscreen if that was needed. If i'm not mistaken it just goes for Max heat.
That’s quite interesting
It gets to 4 in Australia?
Thankyou for a very clear concise roundup.
I have had my Dual Motor Long Range with Pilot Pack for about 2 months now and I agree with your likes and dislikes.
Those cupholders in the middle are completely useless; I would have preferred a storage space instead. I remember reading somewhere that they require the driver to adopt "Dinosaur Hands" to get to them!
Also the lack of 12v supply in the cabin means I had to buy a new USB-C cable for the dashcam transferred from my previous car.
I do miss that there does not appear to be a 'easy entry' or exit system (yet?) as at 5ft 3inches, my seating is quite close to the steering wheel and getting in and out of the car can be quite tight.
On the whole I like the car, feels well and solidly built though the ride can get a little bumpy without the full pack as roads here in the UK have sadly deteriorated recently (but that's another story!)
I should mention that my previous car was a 2014 S Class Merc Hybrid which was getting on a bit, sometimes I do miss the luxury, but the Polestar has most of the "toys" that the other car had.
Having retired, I mainly do short trips round town and I am very impressed by the Polestar 2
Sorry to heard you were another one driver that got a TCAM issue. It is very annoying being a new car. I had the same issue twice at one month of ownership. Hopefully you reported to polestar (connect button) so they can log the problem and create urgency to Polestar to fix the issue. I could have done the reset but I didn’t and took it to the service center. They ended replacing the whole TCAM module ( that also fixed the lack of sound on the dash speaker) the foot well lights still don’t work though. Other than that, I’m still happy with my choice. Great honest video! I agree about the base sound system, it is mediocre ( I replaced all the speakers with Audison and the sound is way better now). I will add that the center console “cushion “ is quite hard. I ending getting a mouse pad that fits well there on top that matches the 3d diamond design from the console.
The TCAM issue is downright terrible. Polestar has to fix it.
Great review, hopefully mine will arrive soon. Just on the purpose of the jack, if using the tyre repair kit it is advised to raise the wheel off the ground to aid the seal and also I dont think the pum would be powerful enough to inflate with the weight of the car resting on the wheel.
You’d be surprised at the strength of air pressure.
Thanks for the review Branden. I have had my Polestar 2 since May 2022. Lots of Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) issues and Polestar has been unable to fix them after all these months (and many attempts). That is super concerning since they seem lost on what to do. My IHU reboots randomly all the time and sometimes will complete shut down (and randomly starts working again if the car is parked for awhile). I've also had the TCAM failure. In my view, this car is an electronic dumpster fire. I love the ride and handling but the other issues are really frustrating.
Totally agree
great review. looking at the cabin and back seat, it looked a little closed in. Have you found this to be the case for someone your size? For the cup holders, it would have been almost better to have just one, so ut wouldn't have brought up so many complaints. the hidden one from what i understand is removable (?), as if it was an afterthought to allow for having 2. it's not like they didnt know having 2 is better than one, they gave 2 in the back. In anycase, i did look at getting a Polestar 2, and the reviews seem pretty good, but there were some little quirks which turned me away, and it didnt seem to come with a heads up display which is something i really like having (didnt get a Tesla for the same reason). I ended up
putting in an order for a GV60.
Your presentation style is really good, so i have also subscribed. thanks
Well he’s way taller than average.
I have an SMLR (single motor long range) in snow. I love the styling but I have not recommended this to friends and family looking for an EV. I have had software issues. The one issue that is really killing my experience is when the car fails to unlock using the app and when I grab the real key to open my car the alarm goes off. Frankly I think they need some serious software work. Ride, drive and efficiency is awesome though. I've taken it into my Pokestar service center where they reset things and redo the app but it still locks me out.
That is really unfortunate :/
Awesome video. Where are you located? I wonder if you get cold weather. What the range penalty is in the really cold weather. I live just outside of Toronto Canada, i ordered a polestar3performance. So I’m trying to see what I can expect for range loss in the cold (-15 to -20 Celsius)
You can get Ohlins suspension on Volvos. Funny thing is they're called Volvo Polestars. The two models are s60 Polestar and XC60 Polestar. They have the gold seatbelts and brake calipers, are tuned by Polestar but they're Volvos and they're around $70,000 plus. Excellent review. Thorough and fair.
Polestar was/is a race company owned by Volvo.
@@matc1603 Yes. And Volvo's performance tuner.
Bro! You listening The Midnight! Good Guy! 😎
I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these to review . Looks like a very 🧐 ev
Hey Brandon great video as alway. What about the Pulsar app experience? I’m not sure if you mentioned that. I know when you had the ID4 the app wasn’t very good. Would love if you cover that in your next video if your tone allows. Thx.
May not be enough to cover to make a dedicated video, but the app is basic but reliable. Allows charging controls, climate, lock/unlock and phone as key.
@@brandenflasch Awesome. Thank you for addressing my question. Greatly appreciate you both.
Under the frunk bay is a whole tire kit you missed. 😂
Identical config to mine except mine is snow ($1200 extra).
One correction, it will DCFC at 155kW on a 350kW charger.
150kW or 155kW… close enough since it doesn’t hold it very long anyway 🤷♂️
Are you having trouble getting out with the low roof frame or its only me at 5'10
Nice video Branden. I loved everything about it when we test drove it except interior space and the ocean waste plastic weave seats that made us sweat - on a rainy April day. Otherwise fantastic. We opted for a fully loaded ID4 AWD MY23. Because we carry two adults and a child in the back 3 times a week. Hump was a killer too. Good videos and keep them coming.
This configuration that Branden (and I) have doesn't have those seats, the seats are not the wet suit like material of the plus pack and are not sweat inducing and very comfortable (on par with the most comfortable seats I've ever had in the 30 some odd cars that I have owned).
IMO the bottom cushions are a bit lacking 🤷♂️
Do you have enough legroom in the back? The transmission tunnel hump is really annoying at the back seat.
Back seat doesn’t have a lot of room.
Oh dear TK, you are officially old and boring.
13:48 What would you use 12V for?
I am renting one in Seattle. Hertz has it at a really good price
Rad! Fun rental.
Why do you remove the flap/covers for the charging plug as they are there to prevent dust from getting the plug holes. As we all know, dust gets in everywhere.
I DCFC very frequently, so I don’t view that as a concern.
I'm seriously looking into EVs at the moment. I'm 6ft 4" so I found your review of the Polestar quite useful seeing that you're a similar height. What other EVs are worth looking at in the sub $60k USD range that is suitable for a tall person?
The 2023 VW ID.4 is a good value, used Tesla Model Y is tall person friendly
Sit in it before you go forward. I have one and at 6'2 I absolutely cannot stand the sitting position. My right knee is ALWAYS pressed against the center console.
I'm 6'3 and saw these comments saying its small and cramped when i actually find it really comfortable. If I sit in the back seat behind drivers seat in my normal position I have about 1.5 inch of knee room and my head touches roof (panoramic) so yeha a squeeze but no one tall really sits in the back. I like that the center console is so high, can rest my whole arm along it. The seat also tilts back nicely so provides support for thighs.
Great and thorough review video. Like you said, I agree that all cars should offer drivers the option to show battery/charger voltage and amperage when charging. It's ridiculous that people have to use an OBD2 adapter connected to a phone app to be able to see volts and amps.
True
Seeing volts and amps in a car is useless.
@craigsj Please elaborate
@@brandenflasch Why don't you ask why "it's ridiculous that people have to use an OBD2 adapter connected to a phone app to be able to see volts and amps"? It's NOT ridiculous, end users cannot do anything with volts and amps.
Maybe you should ask yourself what information you need about the state of your battery and how that should be best presented. The car manufacturers do ask that, and NOT one of them chooses to display volts and amps. Why is that?
Polestar and Tesla show volts and amps.
How far are you from a service center? Have you needed service and did they come pick it up and leave you a loaner? That's what they promised me when I was considered ordering one but I found it hard to believe they'd do that every time for every service or support need. Our closest Polestar "space"/service center was 115 miles away and they said for any service they would flat bed tow it to and from the service center, which seemed like it would be a huge hassle if it needed some minor fix.
Luckily my service center is about 15 miles away and I haven’t needed service. I have heard of them doing the flatbed service transports
My SC is about 50 miles away and twice they sent someone to pick it up to drive it to the service center and back. It was very convenient.
Can you share what 3M wrap and screen protector you use?
Dedicated video here: ruclips.net/video/UVQf2tzOjZU/видео.html
Nice eyes. Great review Thanks
Subbed for not saying the Google keyword... Cheers!
*With the DC flap, do you cut it off or do you remove it in a way that you can put it back on when you go to sell the car?*
I just yanked it… thought it would be able to be reinstalled like on my ID.4 but wasn’t able to when I tried
@@brandenflasch loool
Can you remove the divider on the front trunk?
Probably if I yanked hard enough it would come out
i love this car.
You cannot have route mapper on background? and you can't split screen? WTF ?
I thought you could split screen and listen (and change) to music while having route mapper open no?
When you mention about the charge rate most cars start to Plateau out and the charge rate does drop after about 75% so when you say that it’s slows down at 90%, even the ionic five will slow down after 75% what’s called trickle charging look it up in the dictionary
I am very familiar with charge curves - it is absurd to say the Polestar 2 charge curve is anything like an Ioniq 5, because they’re not.
What size is your shoe and how does your left leg extend/fit around the brake pedal?
Size 13… didn’t have issues 🤷♂️
@@brandenflaschSubscribed!
thank you! Still watching the video amongst others and some RH drivers complained about small foot box. I'm 6-foot UT with size 12's.
Your right knee looks long enough not to be a problem with center console some complain about it intruding onto driver area.
What brand of DCFC station does Circle K use in California?
Well there aren’t any yet
@@brandenflasch that’s disappointing. When will they appear?
Why didn't you show the "hands free" for the tailgate? Even the base models' do open and close hands-free!
It wasn’t reliably useful
How do u start the car and turn off the car?
Get in and put your foot on the brake - then get out
In black it looks like a state trooper
I'm glad you mentioned the cupholders...it may seem petty but it's the reason we didn't buy the car. As it would've been our only car and daily driver and we both use cupholders daily, we knew this would've driven us absolute crazy. Went with a Mach-E with 2 very well placed and usable cupholders...like every other car 😁
It drives me absolutely nuts every time I get Starbucks and just want to have whatever drink I get and my water in cup holders… this shouldn’t be difficult
When I first started watching the video I thought "how bad are these cupholders?" Then I saw the front console. Holy crap that is the most piss poor design I've ever seen. Definitely would be a deal breaker for me, too.
The cup holders are almost impressively bad.
If you buy a car based on cup holders, buy a Chevrolet or something and get some cords and sandals.
@@matc1603 The real reason not to buy it? Made in China. But then I would never buy a Tesla because of Elon Musk and his conspiracy theories.
Hiya!, Yo. good ~ ese ya!.EV!
To summarize for people… another Volvo with Volvo quality if your interested look at the general reliability and quality of materials in Volvos, this is more of the same
Thanks for the candid review. At 55K I'd buy a Model 3 SR all day long before this car.
With the tax credit no longer applying to Polestar, I agree
It's too black like a funeral car. It's gonna be too hot in summer
If you need an armrest while drinking, you are drinking too slow!
😂
Because they tell you not to go over 90 percent or face battery degradation. Cup holders requirements alway make me laugh.
Because what?
@@brandenflasch Because what..... WHAT?
“Because they tell you not to go over 90 percent or face battery degradation.” What are you trying to say?
@@brandenflasch I stated it already, the car manual states dont go over 90 percent and it is the recommended level.
@@SilverMonsterCoind ok… and?
4:04 America is so weird lol
Yes it is
It looks just like the 2023
There is litterally no difference
2024 has changed
The Polestar 2 is a good car for picking up chicks.
6 foot 3, youre just a giant lmao. Seating space in the back is pretty good if the driver is more "normal sized"
6' 3" isn't that tall.
@@brandenflasch the average man is 5 9 so yes
Chinesium
Not at all but ok
@@brandenflasch 99% chinese parts content. Made in China. So...yes, yes it is.
Saying Chinesium implies poor quality, but it’s not poor quality,
@@brandenflasch Glad you like it. I personally won't support the CCP when there are options made in countries with fair labor practices.
@@1970351C2V well, the Polestar 3 is being producer in the US if that's any consolation.
hmm Teslas estimation for destination battery life is actually pretty dead on accurate to me.
It always makes me laugh how infatuated you Americans are with cup holders. I have great ones in my Kia Optima, and used them like twice in 8 years. Great video, thanks from Austria!
Do you not carry water or coffee in your car?
@@brandenflasch Rarely, only on cross-country trips... :-)
It's a cultural thing, less common in Europe.
Indeed, even on trips we put the bottles in a bag in the rear or in the trunk and mostly drink during stops. I've never drank from a cup in a moving car: we only get cups from fast food restaurants and then we eat and drink there, not in the car. Drinking from a cup in a moving car is the best way to spill it.
@@VideosForGeeks wouldn’t it be more convenient to have those bottles in a cup holder rather than a bag?
@@brandenflasch If we drank all time yes, but we mostly drink and especially eat during regular stops to walk a little bit.
Not so good.
Buy this car if you want to support the Chinese Govt.
After advert no. 6 I gave up.
It’s not jamming, you just don’t know how to open the hood properly
Model 3 is same size and quite literally better in every possible way. More cabin space too.
Even the Y is cheaper in our country.
Also, there are some things really annoying about the 3/Y. They both have everything controlled in the screen. My god damn airflow is done through the screen. For someone used to the orthodox styles of cars, that is really annoying. Ive tried to get used to it, I can't
Not really. Stuff like body solidity, handling, ride comfort (on non-PP) goes to Polestar. If you want Tesla's tech prowess, that's the strong point. Different strengths and weaknesses in both cars.
@@benjaminsmith2287 buy your polestar and enjoy it. you might buy a used one as their re-sale value is terrible and there are a ton of people dumping them.
@@mikesmith1702 Like I said, different strengths and weaknesses. I'm used to Volvo solidity and Polestars are Volvos. I'm not worried about resale value. Long-term, both the status and Polestar and Tesla will change and nobody knows how.
For $54K ish…that’s a hard pill to swallow. That center console is a disappointment and waste of space. I have a Tesla and rented this Polestar 2 on travel for nine days to experience the differences…the charging is a dump!!! The charger is heavy and a two handed operation at 70kw’ish max with most companies and most do not operate…embarrassing. Should be a “Not a wise choice” to purchase a Polestar 2…a BMW i4 is a beautiful machine for the same price range with some tasteful appearances if you are not interested in the Tesla bandwagon. Why and who the heck purchase a horrible looking car for $50k ish range just because they are sick and tired of hearing the word Tesla or its door gaps. This EV movement era has shown me the world of human taste for cars…no taste in design and functionality when making a purchase decision. Same in a gas car…who’s in their right mind to purchase an ugly azz car…right, they are in their left mind.
Polestar 2 has shortcomings but design is definitely not one of them - it’s a great looking vehicle
@@brandenflasch how is it a good design? A rectangular box on wheels is a good design? Have you taken any aerodynamic classes or watch any aerodynamic RUclips videos? We, engineers, love to keep our job and follow the design aspect of things. Human society as a whole improved because we copied what works from nature and its living things. A shark has a pointy noise, a whale has a smaller, thinner frontal area, a dolphin, a bird, a rocket, a space shuttle, a lambo, a Ferrari…why design a box for drag when this WHOLE WORLD is about low drag???? Now you called it a great looking vehicle. All I trying to say is people are clueless in a EV purchase decision and love to be different in a $50k wrong way. I do fully respect those who can afford the $50k purchase price because they have or will be working for the car payments.
The center console has the traction batteries, so it's not a waste of space, but maybe not the best packaging. The charging situation is not close compared to Tesla, for those that use it as a commuter car without road trips that might not matter. I can charge at work and home, and most destinations, in one charge. I like the look of the Polestar only second to the Ionic 5. You can find used Polestar 2s from used Hertz inventory at used car dealers for $40k or less for the dual motor AWD with less than 10k miles. I love the split screen navigation, similar to a Model S, ride height and build quality and combination of physical controls, and ventilated leather seats. If you want a stealthy EV sleeper with 0-60 times around 4 seconds, getting a used one is a pretty good bargain at the moment. Also, if you want the ability to change the suspension ride, you can get it with adjustable suspension from the factory with Brembo's too. If charging speed and ease is #1 criteria, then you already know the answer.
Now buy the stock
I don’t hold any automaker stock
@@brandenflasch..it's Actually consider a Tech stock ..but I understand..!
