I totally agree on increasing the battery range to 400 miles. Some people will disagree but mass EV adoption will not happen until customers have the "choice" of having 400 miles of battery range in any EV model if we are willing to pay for it. Its frustrating when someone "tells" a paying customer how much range they should need. The car manufacture that provides customers with 400 miles of range for a reasonable price will gain market share period. Great video!
Agree but think cars should get 450 mi. That makes charging between 10% and 80% =315 miles. I consider that a minimum for those that may live in an apartment in the north. Batteries aren’t nearly good enough. Should be able to add 300 miles in 10 minutes charging. No cars come close to that speed. Trucks and large SUVs should get 500 to 700 mi range for hauling/towing things.
I have a Model Y 4680 (bought mine a few weeks before you) and one biggest thing I miss that I had in my previous car are the ventilated seats. I charge 95% at home. Have not Supercharged in 2024 so far so charging curve not a huge impact to me. Two issues I had so far was AC compressor had to be replaced two weeks into ownership. Just had one of the rear window regulators replaced due to rattling issues when you closed the door. All covered under warranty. Overall, really like the car.
Thanks so much for taking one for the team, Branden! I picked up my 2024 MY RWD SR recently and your video series reviewing that version (range and charging performance) absolutely convinced me that it was the right Tesla for my needs. It's disappointing that the 4680 pack. charges so poorly. My 2022 Bolt EV charged slightly worse than the 4680 pack. And that's saying something. I'm still waiting to see if Tesla releases the range unlock for my car. I'm super pleased with the charging speed of my version of the Model Y. Thanks again for all the videos you do and especially for giving me the inspiration to get my first Tesla. I hope Tesla eventually gives 4680 owners a charging update or some other incentives towards a 2170 Y (or the 2025 refresh Y).
Good rundown. Don't forget about the Super Mega Schmega Ultra Power Frunk on the F-150 Lightning. I get where you're coming from about 400, but I've learned to plan my bio breaks, restaurants, and hotel stays around superchargers. Instead of saying that I need more range, I would prefer to have far more charging opportunities. My Model 3 range has dropped from 322 to 300 miles in four years. During my cross-country trips, I set the nav to hit superchargers near lunch, dinner, and hotel stops and let the car choose any intermediary stops. Some people don't want to set the nav to any stops except hotels, but I don't mind the extra planning. It lets my passengers know exactly when to expect stops and what we're going to do there.
I also would like to see Tesla offer a 400+ mile range option. Of course I don't need it, but I still would pay $5-10k more just for the convenience. People used to say "no one NEEDS 400 hp in their car," but some people bought powerful cars if they could afford it. Others were just fine with less. Now with EVs, power is not expensive, but range is. Most people will be fine with 300 miles, but 400 miles is a nice luxury to have.
There’s no way in heck I would pay that kind of money for another hundred miles of range I would virtually never use it. So far I’ve done my car year and a half. I’ve charged it to 100% four times. Each time to leave for a road trip where I wanted to extend the first leg. I never charge over 80%, which is 240 miles. More than enough.
@@bigdougscommentary5719 A minority for sure, but still a decent market. “Flagship” cars, with high power, luxury, or long range EVs show off an automaker’s capability and add to the brand cachet. This helps sales of the more affordable cars from that brand, in addition to profits on the flagship.
I probably have one of the longest time on EV batteries with my 2011 Nissan Leaf (that has no thermal control). The car is garaged: I vary the charge level, never have fast charged it, and never leave the battery (when fully charged) sit for a long period of time. Back in 2011 it got 105 mile range and now gets between 65-70 miles after 13 years. If you take care of the battery it will easily last past 10 years. Granted I only do short trips on the car because it is only a 24KWH battery so my mileage is not even close to what Tesla owners put on their cars, but I can't complain about reliability.
I had two 2013 Nissan Leafs. One did not have the CHADEMO port. I did fast charge the other one. The one without the CHADEMO was the only one that needed a battery replacement (under warranty). But, hey whatever works for you. Or maybe I was just lucky.
Great info about a great vehicle overall. Regarding charging very valid points but if 90+% of charging is done at home overnight then not a major issue to the vast majority of buyers. Thanks for all you great videos, I thoroughly enjoy them.
But people who live in Apartments have to rely on SuperCharges. Yes 90% of charging may be at homes, but that’s for Rich Tesla owners. It needs to be good enough for us po folks. No way EVs get over 25% with these specs, charging performance, pricing. ICE wins - Corolla gets 400 miles for 25K.
Couldn't agree more on the 400 mile range option. The average one way trip distance is 285 miles, so a 400 mi range EV could handle most trips without needing to fast charge for most people. As for the pee break crowd, people still stop for pee breaks at rest areas. Like they do now. Love the review.
The top down view that everyone seems to want, I had in a Chevy Bolt. It stitched the camera images together nicely but I find the current Tesla display to be every bit as useful for all your top down needs. 😃
Efficiency tires like the Hankook iON EVO AS tires can dramatically increase your range over the stock tires. I can get 330+ miles of range with my 2024 Model 3 Performance with those tires.
It took me many months before I finally figured out why the Tesla phone app didn't always unlock my car automatically. On my Android Samsung Galaxy there is in Settings, then Battery, then Background Usage Limits (of all the stupid places!) an option for Never auto sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps. Once I designated the Tesla app not to auto sleep I've never had a problem since. The option not in the Settings, Apps section which is totally stupid.
Another great video. I appreciate all your knowledge with the 4680 battery. It is also my Tesla Model Y and I’ve learned a lot. It would be great if Tesla would improve this. Thank you.
I think one factor matters above all else. Home charging! Period. Level 2 charging at home is the whole difference. Everyone focusing on crazy long range and super charging network etc etc… if you have a good level 2 charging station in your driveway it all makes sense. If you do not have a level 2 charging station in your driveway it’s a struggle and always will be.

1. I think a built-in hot spot would greatly increase data use, and that would cost Tesla a lot more to maintain. So, they would have to raise the connectivity cost. 2. The Model 3 does have a RWD Long Range version with 363 miles of range, and right now it is cheaper than the Model 3 RWD Standard Range because it qualifies for the Federal EV rebate. 3. HYUNDAI has the technology and the temp is never an issue driving but adds time charging. I can only get 0 %- 82% in 22 minutes on a 70 degree day. Got my 4680 AWD Model Y with the 20”turbine wheels? What is your actual real world range charged at 100% I also use Tessie app. I havent seen my range past 200 miles. Is that normal?
In the MYLR 2022, one of my longest drives is 212 miles taking 3hrs 51min with no charger stops. Leave with 95% SOC, arrive with 16%. That's basically 4hrs and I always stop at around 2hrs in the middle. The worst drive is 399 miles taking 8hrs 12min with one Tesla SC 150Kw and one ChargePoint 62Kw, arriving at destination with 7% SOC. I stay somewhere along the way as 8hrs is too much for me.
I'm almost at a year. My main issues are having a flat with no spare and needing to pay so much to protect the paint. Should come protected IMO. Also have a buzz in my AC vent that is irritating to me.
Can I charge my model y 260 range everyday to 95% without paying the energy boost? A lot people wanna know that answer. Could you make a video about that ? Thanks
Wait, how does Tessie know your car’s battery temperature? Do you have to plug something into Canbus to make it work? How would an app on your phone get that information from your car without plugging directly into the car?
Branden, if you find a solution for cleaning those marks off of your driver seat please post. We bought our Model 3 RWD last October with white seats (thanks for the referral discount!), and while we love the white interior and have no regrets, I have noticed there are marks now showing on the driver side outside lower bolster. Like you, I used Gyeon ceramic coat, applied on day one but those marks seem impossible to remove. They are faint but noticeable.
Juniper is probably at least 6 months away so in the mean time Tesla will do its best to flush the remaining inventory of Model Ys and get it's RUclips pumpers to tell folks to "go get one now as it is a great time to buy!" Model Y is a great vehicle with mediocre range available only in perfect weather conditions.
Dude, you need to learn how to use the cargo cover! I started doing what you were doing but i learned to pull up the part that is the farthest rather than the nearest one. It's smooth sailing after that. No more fighting with the cover.
I really like your wrap. It looks great. This battery is just so disappointing for someone who does long road trips like you do. Have you checked the resell value with Carvana or CarMax? Just curious what they offer you for this car.

Hey Branden, forgot where I heard, but I thought you had ordered a new Model 3 Performance. Is that still in the cards or are you going in a different direction for your next vehicle? Being selfish here but I hope so since I would like to order one in the future. Always like your range tests and commentary.
@@brandenflasch No, I have the same as you do. It’s been a solid car and one of the best I have owned. I’m still hanging on to a gas powered truck but I’m leaning toward going all EV. It’s night and day difference in comfort and handling. I’m trying to decide whether to buy the new long range RWD 3 or wait for the new model Y. You may have answer this but has your charging time improved from your early videos?
Agreed. I almost don’t believe I’m driving a modek Y when I drive the 4680 model Y It actually is comfortable suspension. I know they improvd the suspensiont for later models after 2022 but they still were never great. The 4680 Seems to have a different build that is unique perhaps due to 4680 structural battery reclined modification to its suspension.
You bought a car for the particular content. I think somebody with your knowledge would buy a different car, but you have to acknowledge the choice was yours. I disagree that the 400 mile range is required. It’s been proven over and over and over that if you have the supercharger, you don’t need anywhere near that kind of range.
Spoken review and Cleanerwatts were about a year ahead of you in reporting the dismal charging for the 4680 but we bought them anyway. Enjoy the best around town EV.

Broa you got all the accessories i needed! 👍
If you didn’t have this car right now what car would you replace it with that is within your budget?
Tough choice between Model Y LR AWD / LR RWD or at a bit higher price, used R1T. Crazy deals on BMW iX, Ioniq 5 and EV6 also though
@@brandenflasch I drove a top trim Ioniq 6 and really liked it. The efficiency was excellent in that car. Easily 300+ miles of range.
@LearningFast I just can’t get over the looks and I don’t do sedans
Can I charge my model y 260 range everyday to 95% without paying the energy boost?
A lot people wanna know that answer. Could you make a video about that ? Thanks
Yes you can
Wait, how does Tessie know your car’s battery temperature? Do you have to plug something into Canbus to make it work? How would an app on your phone get that information from your car without plugging directly into the car?
Pulls from the Tesla API - you have to enable “Direct Telemetry” but no device needed
@@brandenflasch cool. So that means the Tesla app has access to that information but just doesn’t display it?
@@LearningFast correct
Does fsd work for you when it's really dark? Mine craps out.
Yes but most of my driving is in the city so it doesn’t get that dark
I have a Uniden radar detector, the R8. Where did you find the suction cup to put on the back of the screen?
Dude, you need to learn how to use the cargo cover! I started doing what you were doing but i learned to pull up the part that is the farthest rather than the nearest one. It's smooth sailing after that. No more fighting with the cover.
That’s still terrible
I really like your wrap. It looks great. This battery is just so disappointing for someone who does long road trips like you do. Have you checked the resell value with Carvana or CarMax? Just curious what they offer you for this car.
I haven’t but I highly doubt they’re enough
I do one or two long road trips a year. I think I will just rent a car for that next time. I would do that sometimes even when owning an ICE car.
@@brandenflasch I am just curious what they will say. I wonder if they price it the exact same as the LR AWD? Would make for an interesting video even if you don’t plan to sell it.
Brandon - Great update as always! When do you plan to switch out the model Y and upgrade to the Chevy Blazer EV? I would look forward to viewing your content with that product line.
Not a chance
To me the hotspot in the car sound ridicolous, why would i have that?my Phone has it
It’s not unlimited and not with an external antenna
I like your good honest view of this car. Good luck getting Tesla to make good on this beta technology battery. Tesla continues to screw its early adopters.
I spy the A2Z adapter!
Oh yes!
How many PPF color flip Model Y's with mudflaps could be seen on I-77 near Charlotte?!
Probably just mine

isn't vision park assist a 360 view? it gives a birds eye view and then you can manipulate the angle with your finger
You can’t actually see a camera view, just a rendering
@@brandenflasch i know, i've used a traditional 360 degree view in a polestar 2 and i have vision park assist in my m3 '24. i dont see how its much worse, since it shows a heatmap of objects you're close to and it shows the parking lines as well

Hey Branden, forgot where I heard, but I thought you had ordered a new Model 3 Performance. Is that still in the cards or are you going in a different direction for your next vehicle? Being selfish here but I hope so since I would like to order one in the future. Always like your range tests and commentary.
Nope, I didn’t. 3 being a sedan is a no-go for me

I think the new MY LR RWD version is the one to get.
I have the model y with the catl lfp. I wish i had the byd versioon, has a beast of charge curce
Even the CATL pack is much better than 4680
The cover on the back is trash but I love everything else about my AWD Y.
Is yours a long range?
@@brandenflasch No, I have the same as you do. It’s been a solid car and one of the best I have owned. I’m still hanging on to a gas powered truck but I’m leaning toward going all EV. It’s night and day difference in comfort and handling. I’m trying to decide whether to buy the new long range RWD 3 or wait for the new model Y. You may have answer this but has your charging time improved from your early videos?
@@jeffreyblanton9877 same terrible charging
You have improved suspension and that beats any model Y of 2022. For practical purposes your car is better.
Where can I get your Tessie referral code? I don't see it in the description.
Referral program has ended.

Excellent points. I also have a Model Y. I will check later, but isn't there a plug in the trunk area? I've seen fridges in the back of some. Thanks.
Yes there is

You bought a car for the particular content. I think somebody with your knowledge would buy a different car, but you have to acknowledge the choice was yours.
I disagree that the 400 mile range is required. It’s been proven over and over and over that if you have the supercharger, you don’t need anywhere near that kind of range.
With what knowledge? No one knew the 4680 charging was trash until I made my content
Spoken review and Cleanerwatts were about a year ahead of you in reporting the dismal charging for the 4680 but we bought them anyway. Enjoy the best around town EV.

Not always
