    I've wondered about Oceania and Virgin. The total cost seems quite high for both but there are also a lot more inclusions and less emphasis on upcharges like specialty restaurants. Oceania has included excursions and some alcoholic drinks too. Plus internet. I'm always going to get wifi. In the end, it may not be that much more than what I would spend elsewhere, with maybe a bit more refined level of service.

      Exactly. It’s all about how you like to cruise and what you get for the fare paid. It’s amazing how the luxury lines come more in line when. You take a look at everything that comes with your fare.

    You missed SeaDream Yacht Club in the top band. But I suppose that is fair, because SeaDream is yachting not cruising, as the strap line says. But as SeaDream is all inclusive and can go to smaller, more interesting ports, it is a wonderful alternative to normal cruise lines.

    I tried to follow the math in your cruise value calculator... especially when you divided the summary by another seven nights and two persons and ended up at $20 per day. I am glad you are presenting comparisons and applaud the good work you do here and the attention to me as a customer. However, if there is a cruise with a cabin price of $2857 and you can get me in it for $20 per day... then I would be delighted! I remember back in high school when a teacher got a little too close to the chalkboard and came up with some math answers like that.... but he was still a great teacher!

      Lol. It’s for comparison for the value of the room when you subtract the cost of the value of the perk package so we can level set the playing field based on value vs actual costa.
      Perceived cost is me just saying because I received x value for the perk packages. How much am I spending on the room so I can easily compare.

    Great information! But I also think the price per day/cruise depends on the cruise ship you are on for each cruise line!

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  Год назад +1

      Very true. That’s why I was trying to compare against everyone’s newest ship where I made sense. I was not going to compare Royal with the over inflated icon. I chose symphony OTS

    You are missing a cost on the "free" drink packages and specialty dining packages - the 20% (NCL) mandatory gratuity. If the drink package value is $600, for example, then the $120 needs to be added in for an apples to apples comparison.

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  Год назад

      My Price for NCL gratuity add on for their drink package is captured in my spreadsheet. I hate how they do this too. Also they never add in taxes, fees and port expenses on their web portal till after you put names into the booking. (Deceptive!)
      My final booking prices includes all fees and tips, etc. I was surprised how Royal came out the highest in the Contemporary band of cruise lines, I was banking on seeing NCL there, but those dang Oasis class ships still command a high price point.

    Are these per person costs? I ask this since my cruising is based on offers cruise lines send me and the cost is usually well under $1000 per person. I have no idea where that $274 perceived cost on the Celebrity cruise came from!

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  Год назад

      Perceived cost is based on backing out taxes fees port expenses, OBCs offered, and subtracting the value of the included such as tips, drinks and WiFi.
      Most cruise lines advertise prices for cruise only fare without taxes, fees and port expenses. This levels the field for cross brand comparison.

    I’m still confused about Celebrity no longer including tips/gratuities into the all included package. Why not just raise the price of the all included? Appears they are trying to advertise lower fares despite the fact.
    Also, I appears as if you didn’t total correctly for Celebrity in your spreadsheet. Shouldn’t you have included the tips into the total? Maybe I’m missing something.

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  Год назад +1

      It was an easy way to "keep" the advertised fares low. Just like you said. Marketing at its finest. Thus why I use my value calculators to sift through all that crud.
