We did a week on Oasis, prepaid gratuities. Without even planning to we ended up with $0 account at the end. Never felt like we were missing anything, it just happened.😊
@@lavans06 the cruise line wants you to prepay gratuities before you board. It's called starting with a clean wallet (or something like that). Once on board you forget what you spent to get there and just look at what you are spending.on the ship. If you see gratuities coming out every day that is coming from your "travel budget." But by prepaying you also lock in the cost, any increase is not charged to you. In theory the gratuities include wait staff and cabin attendant but many people continue tipping them either out of habit, guilt, or appreciation for what they do, but it is not a requirement.
Thanks so much for the information. Going on our honeymoon for 2 first time cruisers in June 2023 on Freedom of the Seas and we’re both VERY excited. I have a whole playlist of videos I’m watching to make sure we are as prepared as possible when it comes time for our trip next year
I feel you. Going on my first one as well with my bf and I have been researching since last year when I first found out I was going 🤣 guess you can say I’m a bit overeager
Just came back from a trip in Freedom of the Seas! What an amazing experience it was!! It was my first time and I’m already planning another cruise already
Freedom of the Seas was the first ship I was on. Loved it! Beautiful ship, and not too big or too small. It was 2016 and sailed from Port Canaveral, Florida. Awesome memories.
@@CableReadyTechnoSIut i also went on the same ship in June 2023. This company has amazing services whether you're a first timer or returning customer. Freedom of the Sea is one of the older ships, i believe 2008? Just like the video says it's not as big as some other ships that were built later on which have more varieties. Still wonderful experience regardless
another fantastic informative video Matt, i learn something new from each one you post! hopefully by the time we cruise next August ill be in a good position to make the most of everything! keep them coming! 👍
Tony, that was a jack-up oil drilling rig. I used to work on OSVs (Offshore Supply Vessels) in the Gulf of Mexico that used to bring supplies to them offshore.
Booked and leaving in a few weeks. First timer, so I'm watching these to know what to expect. We're part of a large party and I've been told that although the RC app provides a way to communicate with the rest of your party, there's no way to make it notify you that a message has come in. If so, that's a shame. Sure would be useful.
Fucking love sarrentos pizza been on oasis twice and it’s just great being able to go down to the deck get a full pizza and bring it back to my room at 11pm after watching the comedy show
I have lost track of how many cruises I have been on with Royal Caribbean. I am also a member of their Crown & Anchor Club. I also own stock shares in Royal Caribbean. I do have an issue with the gratuities. I would take less of a stock dividend. The burden to provide a decent salary should be with Royal Caribbean, not passengers! I have worked for over 40 years, and never received a gratuity. I currently live in Central and South America. Many times gratuities are automatically added to restaurant bills. Over the years, I have seen worse service, because gratuities were automatically included!
Really,Tap Water!!!!wow!!Cant believe felt need to include that..😂But great info..Will be my next Cruise..have only been Carnival (9 Cruises)but has gotten to -as one RUclips influencer has said-be the Walmart of the Cruise Lines.-
My wife and I are booked on Royal Caribbean in March 2023. You mention in this video that limited non alcoholic beverages are allowed. Yet, Royal Caribbean web site says other wise. Please confirm.
I’m going on Navigator of the Seas in the Royal Suite… still not sure what is included with that. Any thoughts? I know there’s some VIP perks but not sure what it is…
Most cruise lines require you to put any beverages you bring onboard in your carryon. Can't put in checked luggage. This is when it pays to pack light & arrive at the departure port a day early. When determining whether it's worth it to bring beverages aboard, take into account your physical abilities and tax rates. Also which beverages do you want. Uncommon sodas (cranberry ginger ale or raspberry cola or stevia sweetened sodas) would be an excellent choice. Last time I was in New Orleans the sales tax was 20%. In Texas sales tax varies by county and city but most places it's under 9%. So it would save me money to buy beverages at home and take them with me on the train.
I purchased a refreshment pkg for my upcoming cruise and I've heard from other RUclips channels that when in port you have to pay additional taxes for each beverage. Is that the case on RC?
I have bought drinks packages on Royal Caribbean cruises and they were fully inclusive ( tips also) no extra charges at all even in port . Hope that helps .
I think they mean when you are in port and YOU get off the ship...you have to pay for drinks as the drink package does not extend to on shore vendors. The exception may be if you go to one of the Island Resorts owned by RCL and your drink package MIGHT be honored there. Easy enough to ask and find out.
I have an unusual question and I haven’t been able to find an answer anywhere. If I have the dining package can I still go to the buffet during dinner hours for a pre-dinner snack before I go to Chops for my dinner reservation? Furthermore, could I use the dining package to make a dinner reservation at Chops for 5 pm and also make a reservation for 8pm at a second specialty restaurant? Or is it one dinner per night with the dining package? Just trying to make sure I know my options; my first ever cruise is in 5 months.
Yes you can visit Windjammers as much as you would like while it is open, regardless, if you have any additional reservations for any other restaurants.
I’m lost. If I pre pay gratuity, do I also pay gratuity throughout the day? Or if I pay $14.50 a day instead do I pay that $14.50 PLUS 18% per purchase? If so that’s awful
Love your videos thank you so much you have now turned me into a cruise expert!!! My very first cruise is July 7 leaving sesttle on the Quantum of the seas! 7 night Alaskan cruise!!! Super excited! And you have helped me prepare for it!
I pay for shore excursions. Also a few alcoholic drinks. I also attend Captain's Cocktail parties and get the free drinks and appetizers. I have also gone to some of the Art Auction lectures and gotten free wine and art prints. They do have some nice art. The thing to keep in mind is it's not really investment art. You only buy it if you like it and want to hang or display in in your home or your office.
How much bank balance is needed to go on these cruises? 5 million or more or even more than that? What is the typical cruising person’s total wealth? So I will know that I am not stepping beyond my boundaries?
@climbeverest You don't need to have millions in the bank. You do have to save up your money. How much you need depends on where and when you want to go. Also, where you will be cruising from versus where you live. A minimum wage job won't cut it unless you have other money, such as an inheritance or retirement payments. If you can reduce your daily living expenses and put the savings towards a cruise fund, you can cruise sooner. If you want to go to Alaska, it will take longer to save for it than for a Caribbean cruise.
We booked through Royal Caribbean website and paid payments. It’s very doable for anyone to enjoy. Just be mindful of what is your must haves. Research research and research.
when you are doing review like this dont mislead first time cruisers , graduities are not mandatory and they can be removed at guest services. and you should say that in your video
Yes, correct. I hail from Australia so we do not get charged gratuities. We sailed RC from Singapore and I had the gratuities removed. I prefer to tip direct.
I booked a cruise on Royal for 2/9/24, leaving from Australia. When I saw your video I called them about the gratuities. They explained that the gratuities are only added in in fare for the Australian market or not for US residents.
Thank you for the information. Going on a cruise for the first time in December on Explorer of the Seas. I'm still deciding, but I think I'm going to pay extra for the drink package. I watched the Drink Package video and it was very informative as well.
I didn't find the sale price of $160 a day for two people very affordable we spent around $60 on booze on board and $20 on water in advance. No soda just juice and coffee which was best in the main dining room.
Super informative. Our cruise sets sail in 3 weeks (Navigator of the seas) and this will be our first time on Royal. We’ve been on Carnival many times but this cruise line is significantly different from theirs. Trying to get aquatinted beforehand so we’ll know what to expect. Are the cabanas an extra fee or FCFS?
This really helps us because we didn’t know what’s all included. Like there food. . For us being our first time on a royal Caribbean ship plus a oasis cruise!
I'm going on a cruise with my family in a couple months, and I have a few questions regarding the main dining room. What drinks will be included in the main dining room? Will I be able to fill my soda cup and bring it to dinner??
You can use your beverage package in the MDR. If you have a soda package, you can order a basic soda and they will have it. If you want one of the make-it-yourself type sodas, you can bring that in your cup. Water, lemonade, coffee and tea are free if you dont have a beverage package. If you bring on your own soda, you can drink that anywhere, including the MDR.
If RC can just get nearly everyone onboard, let's say 6000 passengers, to spend an extra $250, they will make an extra 1.5 MILLION BUCKS on said cruise. Not bad. After all, how easy is it to spend nearly that much on a picture package alone!?
Update: we got back, it was amazing! Food was better, more room, great shows, awesome staff and overall just so fun. Also the drink package worked the day of and that was just super nice!

It drives me crazy when people pay extra when they already paid 18% extra. Also, when you buy a drink if you don't have a package, they automatically add on 18% but they won't tell you that.
Thank You for just getting straight to the point. Very informative, great video.
