    We did a week on Oasis, prepaid gratuities. Without even planning to we ended up with $0 account at the end. Never felt like we were missing anything, it just happened.😊

      If we're planning with a travel agent, do we prepay gratuities during that time? How do gratuities work in terms of tipping cabin staff and waiters?

    • @fredrosenbaum8630
      @fredrosenbaum8630 7 месяцев назад +5

      @@lavans06 the cruise line wants you to prepay gratuities before you board. It's called starting with a clean wallet (or something like that). Once on board you forget what you spent to get there and just look at what you are spending.on the ship. If you see gratuities coming out every day that is coming from your "travel budget." But by prepaying you also lock in the cost, any increase is not charged to you. In theory the gratuities include wait staff and cabin attendant but many people continue tipping them either out of habit, guilt, or appreciation for what they do, but it is not a requirement.

We're part of a large party and I've been told that although the RC app provides a way to communicate with the rest of your party, there's no way to make it notify you that a message has come in. I have lost track of how many cruises I have been on with Royal Caribbean. I am also a member of their Crown & Anchor Club. I also own stock shares in Royal Caribbean. I do have an issue with the gratuities. I would take less of a stock dividend. The burden to provide a decent salary should be with Royal Caribbean, not passengers! I have worked for over 40 years, and never received a gratuity. I currently live in Central and South America. Many times gratuities are automatically added to restaurant bills. Over the years, I have seen worse service, because gratuities were automatically included!

    • @jacquelyns9709
      @jacquelyns9709 2 года назад +2

      Most cruise lines require you to put any beverages you bring onboard in your carryon. Can't put in checked luggage.
      This is when it pays to pack light & arrive at the departure port a day early. When determining whether it's worth it to bring beverages aboard, take into account your physical abilities and tax rates. Also which beverages do you want. Uncommon sodas (cranberry ginger ale or raspberry cola or stevia sweetened sodas) would be an excellent choice.
      Last time I was in New Orleans the sales tax was 20%. In Texas sales tax varies by county and city but most places it's under 9%. So it would save me money to buy beverages at home and take them with me on the train.

      I think they mean when you are in port and YOU get off the ship...you have to pay for drinks as the drink package does not extend to on shore vendors. The exception may be if you go to one of the Island Resorts owned by RCL and your drink package MIGHT be honored there. Easy enough to ask and find out.

    I have an unusual question and I haven’t been able to find an answer anywhere.
    If I have the dining package can I still go to the buffet during dinner hours for a pre-dinner snack before I go to Chops for my dinner reservation? Furthermore, could I use the dining package to make a dinner reservation at Chops for 5 pm and also make a reservation for 8pm at a second specialty restaurant? Or is it one dinner per night with the dining package?

    I pay for shore excursions. Also a few alcoholic drinks. I also attend Captain's Cocktail parties and get the free drinks and appetizers. I have also gone to some of the Art Auction lectures and gotten free wine and art prints. They do have some nice art. The thing to keep in mind is it's not really investment art. You only buy it if you like it and want to hang or display in in your home or your office.

    • @climbeverest

      How much bank balance is needed to go on these cruises? 5 million or more or even more than that? What is the typical cruising person’s total wealth? So I will know that I am not stepping beyond my boundaries?

    • @jacquelyns9709
      @jacquelyns9709 4 месяца назад +1

      @climbeverest You don't need to have millions in the bank. You do have to save up your money. How much you need depends on where and when you want to go. Also, where you will be cruising from versus where you live.
      A minimum wage job won't cut it unless you have other money, such as an inheritance or retirement payments.
      If you can reduce your daily living expenses and put the savings towards a cruise fund, you can cruise sooner. If you want to go to Alaska, it will take longer to save for it than for a Caribbean cruise.

      @@roxaneabigail488 Honestly, I don't recall the total. But for 4 of us in adjoining rooms ( Boardwalk Balcony) tips and the alcohol package, it was roughly $5500.

    what about WiFi ? I was also told you can eat as much as you want all day. Is this true?

      Wi-Fi is extra. And yes, you can eat anytime you want on a cruise ship.

    According to the Royal Caribbean website, it says that the waterslides are included, can you elaborate on what you mean by an additional cost for waterslides?

    On Royal Caribbean freedom of the Sea do you know if everything stays open, such as the waterslide, Rockwall, etc. during port days, such as the day at CocoCay? I wouldn’t be concerned about shop staying open or casinos, but more interested in knowing if stuff for kids and teens would be open. Would appreciate any info you can provide.

    If it is an automatic charge it is not a gratuity.

    For my upcoming cruise, I purchased the specialty dining package and refreshment package. I also prepaid the gratuities. You mentioned that the specialty dining package includes the gratuity so would it be best to not prepay the gratuity?

      When you purchase any drink or dining package, they automatically add on 18% to the cost for tips. Tips are already paid by you. It drives me crazy when people pay extra when they already paid 18% extra. Also, when you buy a drink if you don't have a package, they automatically add on 18% but they won't tell you that. Read your receipts!
