    I love Shirley Owens voice (the lead singer after whom the group is named). Her voice is strong but still sounds so vulnerable. This was a very advanced song for the time. The (unspoken) suggestion of spending the night together was unacceptable at the time. Carole King, who co-wrote the song with Gerry Goffin also did a great version on her 'Tapestry' album. King and Goffin were among the premier songwriters of the era.

    Written when Carole was 17 and her husband Gerry Goffin was 21. Gerry wrote the words. Remember that a year earlier they got married-when they found out Carole was pregnant. That gives this song a whole new meaning . And what is more amazing is the words were by the husband. Gerry was a really sensitive guy. He also wrote the words to You Make me Feel Like A Natural Woman.

    This song has now become a somewhat cheesy karoke thing however the lyrics are still very thoughtful ''tonight with words unspoken'' for example. The song writer Carol King is probably the most important female composer in rock history. Though this was written in partnership with Gerry Goffin. My band still plays this. :)

    The song was written by Gerry Goffin & Carole King, one of the most prolific & successful songwriting teams of the 50s/60s era, maybe even ever!! A list of their songs by the many varied artists who recorded them would give you enough new reaction material for at least a month or two if you listened to them everyday. By 1970, Carole King decided to sing her songs herself. Finally displaying an incredible voice, her second album, Tapestry, became one of the most successful albums ever, with high volume sales & numbers of awards won. It is still considered one of the best albums in music history. I Feel The Earth Move is one of the great songs on the album, which also includes Carole's own version of Will You Love Me Tomorrow. Treat yourself to a listen!

    Great reaction! Great song. It was produced by the infamous Phil Spector who developed the 'Wall of Sound', not only for the The Shirells, but The Ronettes, The Crystals, Darlene Love/Bobby Sox and Blue Jeans, The Righteous Brothers and Ike and Tina Turner. The concept was to kind of obliterate the sound of each individual instrument in favor of an overall, composite background . . . a "Wall of Sound", if you will.

    • @martinsinfield42
      @martinsinfield42 2 года назад

      Sorry, this was not a Phil Spector production and isn't representative of his 'Wall of Sound'. It was Luther Dixon that produced this and many other Shirelles records. Phil Spector did not produce for the Wand/Scepter group of labels that this record was released on. All the other artists you mention were on Phil Spector's own label (Philles) so he did produce their records as well as some others on Atlantic.

    Another contribution of greatness made by an Owens, Jesse Owens, Shirley Owens, Candace Owens then there is me still working on making my contribution to the world when and what it will be who knows but till then I'll continue enjoying all this great music till I discover my niche or reason to be remembered!

    Upvoted immediately just to get the count off of 666. Then watched the rest of the video and was glad I upvoted! These songs predate my era (I'm 45), but my parents loved them so I grew up listening to these types of songs, and I love them! Those 60's girl groups put out some fantastic music! Please check out some of the Wall of Sound groups - I'd start with "Be My Baby" by the Ronnettes, and "And Then He Kissed Me", by the Crystals. These songs are beautifully simple and yet have complexity in the music that is subtly engaging!

    From that same genre of music, I believe you'd love "Lovers Concerto" by The Toys and lead singer Barbara Harris. I hope you'll check it out.
