Absolutely WONDERFUL! THANK YOU!!! As always, we appreciate the immense effort over decades to achieve this level of skill. Then to provide this overhead view of your fingerings with the synchronized notation is a manifold extra service. This is the highest and best use of this medium for fine art like Bach. I think Johann would approve! A thousand "thank you's" is not enough!

The Feurich 133 upright piano sounds so good btw.
I can never listen to too many recordings of this piece! I learned the 1st movement when I was much too young, but I did it. I have been toying with the 3rd movement over the past few decades, but my health and time are preventing me from getting it to a recording-ready level. But it's still on my bucket list, and I loved how you played it.
I really LOVE how the video opens with tuning a unison; hearing a unison come together is the BEST sound on the entire planet!!
I agree about the unison! It’s a great sound isn’t it? When my piano starts to go out of tune, the unisons are so obvious I just have to go and fix them asap.
I came back to listen because I really enjoy this concerto, but I like it even more because of the clip at the beginning. My dad used to tune pianos for a living, and he often played the first movement of this concerto when he was done (enough times, that I learned the first couple minutes by ear!). Wonderful to hear all three movements here!
Thank you so much. i played that for my grade 8 in 1974 and i have never heard it played by a professional before. I only played the first movement which i was pleased to hear that when i played it, it sounded just right. i added the other two movements when i went to Cardiff university to read music. Although I have enjoyed playing it through the years until life threw me a curveball but i never knew how well i played it. i am a long way from that now but i am hoping that one day soon i will find it in me to start practising again...just for my own pleasure xx
For some reason I didn’t assume your speaking voice was as it sounds - as I am only familiar with your pianoforte voce. Nevertheless the command of the third movement was done with COMPLETE mastery and understanding of the printed text. Much admiration and forever congratulations.

Fantastic as always Paul. You don't by chance have any tips on how to keep bars 43-44 of the Berceuse delicate do you? I've worked really hard on ensuring everything has a tenderness, but those bars are tough to keep leggierissimo.
Brilliant playing Paul! Very good phrasing and articulation too - exactly how I approach Bach. I did this whole work in my university days and now I can’t play it. Sad. How can I get back my playing and performing ability that I once had before embarking on a lifetime of teaching?

Contentez vous du clavecin Mr Barton, n'êtes vous pas capable de comprendre que Bach écrivait au delà de l'instrument et que s'il eût possédé un piano il n'aurait jamais compris qu'on n' en exploite pas les capacités techniques et entre autres la pédale, et qu'on fasse l'impasse totale de legato alors qu'il préconisait ce legato en introduction de ses oeuvres ?

Why the breathless speed for three third movement? Does not give me the chance to hear out enjoy the music and its subtleties.
I once played the first by memory every opportunity. It repays the study and gets your technical grounding. Whatever else you play, you will always come Bach to it.
75 and still playing it from memory. It's the only piece I've never forgotten, and I absolutely love the 2nd movement.

Un'altra grande interpretazione bachiana del M° Barton, degna veramente di nota e di rilievo soprattutto per le sue dinamiche che ricordano molto quelle di Glenn Gould, così come il tocco leggerissimo sulla tastiera! Veramente una gran bella esecuzione!

quick question, if a beginner was wanting to play this song specifically, would you recommend just going ahead and practicing this from the get go one small chunk at a time, or starting with much easier songs and working the way up? thanks
You will hope in vain for a reply from Mr Barton. My personal, middle-aged amateur view is that you should learn music you want to learn and work hard at it, concentrating on the difficult bits and researching as necessary. There is unfortunately a lot of snobbery and preciousness in the classical music world which prevents people actually enjoying their instrument and wanting to ever play outside of their piano room where people might hear a mistake.
