Catching and trapping a knife is one of the most difficult prospects in a fight. With so many styles advocating different ideologies, its essential that we cultivate critical thinking, dedicated to dissecting skills, isolating each of them in drilling and then integrating them in pressure testing and simulation training, to eliminate dangerous ideas from our training.

Kevin you are on fire with another excellent video. Added to my list.
Thanks Greg. I just have a little time off right now to catch up on editing. Lol.
Keep up the excellent work!
Thank you sir. More content later today.
Looking forward to them.
Mr Secours, your contribution to splinter cell were amazing, best game ever made.
Thank you so much
Pure magic. You should transcript that intro KS, summarises so much that is important and that is absent from too many people's thinking about SD.
Very good. This guy is my new favorite. Really understands....
Great instruction and great training.
Very useful wisdom and realism you share here. Much appreciated.
Thanks Robert
A great isolation for such an important topic. Thank you, Sir, learned a lot.
The Virtuoso thank you
I heard a while back that we cant sneeze without closing our eyes because of the protection mechanism and if we forced our eyes to stay open during the sneeze, our eyes can fall out. Might be true because I have noticed since that my eyes are forced shut every time on tjhuu.... You know...ah ah ah aah aah AAAH.... TJHHHUUUUU :D.
Thanks a lot on bottle catch and the X block variation breakdown, because I have seen it work and fail as well, when just looking at it from only one or two fondamental perspectives.
This cleared up many more options with the same technique and can be explored into many more new angles.
Sometimes the names can be part of the confusion between different techniques as well, when in reality they are still using the same basic principle like scissoring arms or legs during a yet another technique with a new name.
I mean the name can sometimes be the spoken and written + mental dictator from one or varies styles of what a technique is. Rather to just focus on and understand the basic body's bio-mechanical functions in application which is much more universal and yet harder to explain without names.
Happy New Year.
Glad you enjoyed it. I find a biomechanical perspective generally helps to shed stylistic trappings. It is at least a good first step. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Coach 👍🙏 I agree 💯
Thanks for watching
Dislikes? You're out of your gourd
I had one guy message me who said: "what's with all this exploration stuff? You're the expert. Just tell me what to do!" You can't please everyone. Thanks for watching Malcolm.
Kevin, I love that; hating discrimination against other styles, and TKD !
I just 'found you' (you were mentioned by a fan/student who rates you highly and I tend to agree).
I like the open-minded approach and I look forward to watching all of your vids.
I must say that Systema intrigues me and I understand there is a lot of BS associated (kinda like Ninjitsu in the 70's/80's), the martial arts suffer from so many false 'grandmasters' and dangerously misinformed 'experts', or 'black belts' from black belt factory dojos who join the pyramid scheme and go on to produce more 'piss-poor' martial arts experts.........g'rrr...I feel a RANT coming on!
OK, deep breaths...calmness, serenity (happy bunnies, cuddly kittens......)
I'll stop here (for now!) but I am genuinely pleased to subscribe,
PAX VOBISCUM dudes!
Thank you so much for watching. I feel that same rant coming on all the time. Glad to meet you. All the best from Montreal.
pure gold.
Thank you so much. Thanks for watching.
fantastic the video a greeting from argentina ..
Thank you so much
I stay really really focused on protecting my neck. I might be willing to allow a glancing body cut if I can get a neck cut on my attacker. If I do not have a knife and he does - I like running away as my best option. If not an option because I am defending somebody who cannot run - then I focus 100% on the wrist holding the knife - and secure that as fast as possible.... then see which way the encounter goes from there! Getting in close and tight with control of knife hand... might work too!
Agreed
Quite apart from the excellence of instruction and the hard-to-find intellectual approach to martial arts, I really enjoy the seamless, flowing switching from English to French and back again.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
Kevin Secours absolutely. You have given me some good advice, years ago, and I'm still grateful for it.
Regarding my comment on your language skills -- I used to be a linguist, so I appreciate fluidity in linguistics as much as I appreciate it in martial arts.
Sadly my French isn't very good but I do my best. I appreciate the nod though. Happy holidays.
What is the difference between Russian Special Forces and US Special Forces Kev ?
Kevin, you should see my knife defense tests. You might enjoy them. 😊
good video
Thanks John
Would this be in a Course that you teach And if so what course would it be
Absolutely. The link is in the description.

@@systemacanada I like it surprised me when you put guns in there to if that's Level three what are the other Levels for
@@manncavemoment for weapon specifically: 1 is stick defense, 2 is static positions with gun and knife, 3 is dynamic swings and stabs, etc, 4 is offensive stick.
@@systemacanada Are those everything you do in one course or those the levels

If the guy with the knife knows what he is doing your in trouble. If you cant get out of there look to blind the attacker, look to hurt him bad instantly , use your environment. Attack the attacker .
Absolutely but still we need to have some options. You might want to check out my 9 tips for knife defense video that preceded this.
@@systemacanada yeah just got done watching that one, well done. Keep up the good work. People often fail to realize the advantage of environmental weapons, bar stools, chairs & trash cans make great tools to help shut an attacker down.
@@kde439 Agreed. If they do acknowledge it, it's like a lip service: "always use an object if you can, now lets do cool empty handed technique". They forget the deep terror your feel faced with an armed attacked that wants to kill you. An improvised weapon makes a monumental difference.
There’s a huge difference between what you should do and what you WILL do. 90% of people will panic as soon as they see a blade in front of them, so the primary offensive tactic is unlikely to even cross the mind.
