    @kevinsecours Thank you for teaching open hand techniques. Always looking to improve. Your overall teaching has been a great mentorship. With all this experience it looks as if you've created a bit of a system all your own. Thank you

    GGG uses this kind of delivery. I switched to it a few years ago when I stopped using gloves so much and moved into SD. It makes a big difference to mechanical delivery and realistic delivery/inhibition factors in bareknuckle.

    heyyyyy...
    I had no idea about this being a thing.
    I came up with the twisted hook on my own a long time ago but asking others the only answers were laughs or "that's some ancient bare knuckle stuff".
    Now i gotta learn the fig8 options. Looks nifty for opening center line or distracting a 2nd guy.
    I guess it's time to shadow slowly again and figure how to optimize.

    Dan insonto says FMA has more than 16 hooks and in Indonesia Kuntau or silat we had poison hands.....both have similar features to the Slavic hook. Thanks for your research

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  4 года назад +1

      j h we have poison hands in our jujitsu as well and yes panatukan and Silat overlap a ton here- I see too many similarities and think systema in particular was strongly influenced by fma but it’s an unpopular opinion lol

    • @pr9xx
      @pr9xx 4 года назад +1

      I started Silat/Kali and I find a lot of similarities. Hinge punching for example ! 3 dimensional/wave motion is emphasized. I love some of the throws and locks (looks more like japenese JJ in this case). The footwork is amazing as well, though difficult to approach. When I compare the two arts (systema and silat) people think I am joking or at minimum ignorant.
      Sorry for my broken english

    Hey Kevin, I have issues from a past dislocation in my shoulder ( anterior dislocation, posterior impingemen ) . Could the downturned fist position possibly aggravate my condition from internal rotation of the arm?

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  4 года назад +1

      It absolutely could. I would use it sparingly. I would try focusing first on exterior rotation--positions like plank, contraction like you would find in sanchin kata. I have a lot of clips on plank and cobra that would be good. Then I would work on shoulder mobility carefully and use this type of punch sparingly rather than as a rule to see how it feels and to assess the aggravation. Does that make sense in your experience?

    • @Almosteasyese
      @Almosteasyese 4 года назад

      @@systemacanada Thank you! Yes , it makes sense. I think the most aggravating thing ( which tends to put my shoulder to sleep) is rapid fire jabs. I've started to move to hooks more, (vertical fisted) and slaps, twisted lead setups, anything backhand , as well as just focusing on breaking posture. The hand is more of a , " feeler", or an indexer now than anything else.

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  4 года назад +1

      @@Almosteasyese In my recent upload on finger whips and palm wedges, I discuss the importance of varying between piston like jabs and circular recoil, that feeds into figure 8 motions. One of the main reasons for this is to avoid strain on the joints. This might be something to consider in your jabbing to take the pressure off.

    I think the reason why males 18-27 are more likely to sustain a boxing fracture is because they're more likely to have a completely unregulated temper tantrum against other guys equally emotionally maladjusted at that age. I see it a lot in prison anyway. Meltdowns come with a high degree of intensity and have absolutely no room for the consideration of technique. Technique requires discipline; meltdowns by definition are a loss of control characterized by undisciplined response, hence busted pinky knuckles. I completely agree that you ought to know what your weapon is doing by the time it reaches target. I've seen a lot of guys in this age range punch with the "spray and pray" spirit and inevitably end in serious injury.
    I've trained in both schools of thought and what they have in common is disciplined intention. So I think it's in the absence of that defining characteristic we see these injuries and in no way does it reflect the integrity of either school of thought.
    That being said, awesome breakdowns as usual sir, love your stuff :D

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  4 года назад +1

      Daniel Young fully agree. For what it’s worth I did know a 68 year old grand mother who punched another woman at a bingo game and got this fracture. True story lol, so rage is not the exclusive domain of the young male of course but fully agree that the amygdala high jack plays a big role here.

      IamHueGraves that’s cool. I had a friend who had a really flat fist. Used to say he could hit with all four at the same time but when he did pushups it was still bottom three. Be interesting to get an X-ray of your hand one day
