Milk tart without cinnamon is not a milk tart for me, as a South African.
You only tried the Malay koeksister....generally the 2nd k is lost in pronunciation to differentiate it from the original koeksister which is made from a plaited dough which is boiled in very hot oil and then dunked in an icy sweet sauce. It has a different look and is much sweeter than the Malay version. Due to its overpowering sweetness it is best eaten from the fridge...be warned..it can be addictive especially if there is hanepoot, a sweet white grape, juice or wine added to the sweet sauce. You must try it next time you visit.
koesister... Because it is Cape Town
😂😂😂Originally from the slave courter was the koesiesters. The trekking mense only became trekkers decades later. Yes they were Dutch before they became a trekking and colonising company 😂😂😂
Durban is birth place of Bunny Chow ..Mama Govender...the mother of Bunny Chows
😂
Completely WRONG history on the bunny chow. It’s truly sad that a platform like this can’t get their facts right.
I'm from Cape Town and I'll tell you that Bunny Chow was from a non South African, the ONLY place you go for an authentic Bunny Chow is to Durban, that's where it's from, the one in the video looks HORRENDOUS. The Gatsby is the sandwich that is authentically Capetonian. Cape Malay cooking inspired many various dishes in Cape Town over generations with the amalgamation of the Dutch and English dishes.
What you had was not real milk tart. It is supposed to have a puff pastry bottom. It tastes totally different than the more modern version which is much quicker to make and is more cake like than the traditional versions.
Thank you Louis. I used to live next door to the Melktert queen in Ladismith in the Little Karroo. Watching this happen made me irrationally angry!
Charlie's make pretty cakes, but for the real good stuff you have to get out of the city. The aunties and tannies (aunty in afrikaans)will give you the traditional and best.
Thank you Paul for loving our City. ❤🎉
OMG what have you done? Seriously? Milk tart does not look like an English summer day of despair, it is golden celebration
Agree. Milktart does not go with tea! Maybe coffee. But why mess with perfection 🙈
😂 @recmauve9120 and @kathkenyon Be more gasvrei. The oke rocked it. I’ll def try it. Love from Pretoria xxx
That was such a poor representation of the Bunny Chow! Nothing at all like it should be 😮
The Cape Malay koeksister is not the same as the South African traditional koek sister.
Did you get to I Love Coffee? Best coffee shop and bakery around. And do amazing work in empowering the deaf community
I’m English and horrified that he should mess with the beloved milk tart. What was he thinking of.
Oh my gosh! I feel so home sick now. Thank you for sharing our beautiful city, and the yummy food, Paul.❤❤❤
Who gave this man Sasko flour?? Snowflake is number 1
Love the man educating the locals in breadbaking to give them a good professional future! ❤
