Bunny chow is a Durban food made by the Bunya people for indentured labourers, who needed to take food to work so they came up with this, as it was easier to cart the curry and the bread without the use of containers 'n such❤ for the best Bunny.. Go to Durban ❤ love the vlogs found so much in Cpt thanks to you and can't wait to go try it out ❤❤❤

Bunny chow is a Durban icon. You mostly get it at the tourist places in Cape Town. Lived over 70 years here and never ate one. Lots in Durban though.

Athlone is not a safe area to go to though, or is it? Not sure if that's a place I can go to as a single traveling female 😅. To my understanding that's part of Cape Flats, which should be avoided

@iMitiga you can't just avoid the whole of the Cape Flats, you'll miss out on the soul of Cape Town. Did you know there are also middle class and farely upmarket areas on the Cape Flats besides townships? I suggest you befriend a local person from the Cape Flats and prepare to have your life enriched 😊

Iconic? Definitely. Street food? A few of them. One omission is the simple but classic boerewors roll. I prefer the Cape Flats version with nippy sausage over actual boerewors (not sure if that's sacrilege). I think that would've fit better than the gelato. Also, feels like yesterday when one could get a full-sized gatsby for R20, but my cholesterol is actually happy it's not so cheap anymore.

Bunny chow destination is Durban..that's where it's originated.. bunny chow was created during the apartheid era by Durban indian cooks..they'd make the curry cut the bread and put it inside the bread and sneak it out for their husbands..that's why best bunnies are in Durban.

bunny chow isn't iconic to Cape Town, it is a Durban dish. Gatsby is iconic to Cape Town. Cape Town's food has the Malay influence. Now we have every kind of foods out there, from all over Africa and most of the world. Hake, hake is common and u can get anywhere but, snoek, snoek is iconic to Cape Town, and u can only get it here or off the boats at Kalkies, in Kalk Bay harbour, or the fish n chip shops around CT area and most fish shops sell snoek, either whole, ready to braai, or in pieces ready to fry. Pity u didn't say where all the places u had the food, always nice to know

Highly disappointed in your lack of knowledge of the Bunny Chow:
1stly, it's not iconic to Cape Town but to Durban
2ndly, your knowledge on the history is so lacking and irritatingly stupid. The Bunny Chow was invented by a Bania owned take-away in Durban, during a time when the indentured labourers had to take their food back to their place of work and because of no utensils, the food was packed into a hollowed out bread.
There is no connection to Bunny Rabbits or Chinese dogs or a man nicknamed Bunny. All nonsense! 🤚

@@BryanDiscoversWorld I enjoy watching your videos but at least get the history of the food you are eating correct.
It's annoying to hear false information being spread.
      Iconic foods for Cape Town:
      1) Gatsby
      2) Babotie
      3) Fish and Chips
The Gatsby and Babotie were invented in Cape Town and should be the first two on the iconic list.
Fish and Chips is from the UK 🇬🇧
Bunny Chow is iconic to Durban and nowhere in Durban will you find a Butter Chicken Bunny Chow either.
Butter Chicken is best eaten with Naan.
