The Beatles' Magical Orchestra: "Reprise - A Day in the Life"

- And now, The Magical Orchestra presents one of John Lennon's greatest collaborations with Sir Paul McCartney, and the first Beatles recording to employ a full orchestra of 40 players.
Producer & Arranger George Martin originally intended to book an 80-piece group but couldn't justify spending so much money on a pop song. Ringo joked, "Why not use half an orchestra and record them twice?" George Martin thought a moment, and concluded that Ringo's idea was brilliant, overdubbing a 40-piece orchestra not twice, but five times! A film was made of the session, showing some of London's finest musicians wearing full evening dress... and all manner of Halloween masks, purchased by the Beatles' roadie Mal Evans at a nearby costume store.
David Amram conducts The Magical Orchestra (sporting their own array of Halloween garb), and at the end, pianists Michael Schiano and Keith Hill belt out one of the most famous (and longest) piano chords in musical history.

The sheer joy of the players is priceless
+Ron yanai Thank you, Ron! The masks, fake noses, wigs and hats were passed out to the players seconds before the performance began, so in addition to their sheer joy, they were also doing all they could not to burst out laughing at each other's costume!
MASTER PIECE!!!
Such quality . I'm blown away by the adherence to the original score . The Beatles had it far easier doing it in the studio . Bravo Magical Orchestra .
Thank you, LuckyTrucker1 !!
From the first unmistakable opening chord to the last, a Beatles masterpiece, superbly recreated by a very, very talented group of REAL musicians....more, PLEASE!?
Could be the most spine tingling song of the 20th century.
- Or any century.
Most spine tingling song EVER
Could be right!
I have to agree and there are so many songs, but this one haunts me like no other.
Bravo!
The Beatles could not have come from England. They and George Martin must come from an advanced civilization in another galaxy.
Nate -
Why not ? Other musical geniuses did, after all - such as:
Thomas Tallis
William Byrd
John Dowland
Henry Purcell
Edward Elgar
Frederick Delius
Ralph Vaughan Williams
Gustav Holst
Benjamin Britten
John Tavener
................and one or two others I could mention from our Land of Heroes and Warriors and Poets (albeit one governed by tone-deaf, cowardly Midgets).
Agreed ?
Exactly!
Very good
Totally ! They are out of this world !
@@marvinc999 Absolutely!
Great musicians ! Very good conductor ! Wonderful video, with a great Lennon like voice of Anthony Pomes.
+Anthonio Degravio Thank you Anthonio!
This song means so much to me as was going through a hard time 20 years ago used to drink a lot everyday to block things out of my mind.
Would play this song a lot in a haze of my drunkenness but it made sense can't explain or put it into words..
Fast Forward 20 years I'm now 16 years sober worked out my stuff in my head.
wonderful...justice served to a fav song of mine
I always love Ringo's drumming on this song 👍👏👏
You guys do an excelent job!!! Congratulations!!! Kisses from Venezuela
Thank you for sharing !!
bendiciones a los Beatles, que crearon esta joya musical. Solo los verdaderos fans, comprendemos la grandeza que encierra este tema.
BRAVISSIMO!
Also: That "Please hold your applause" is the best idea ever. I play in a similar tribute and when the audience cheers too soon on this song, a tiny little part of me dies inside. (Yes, I know how silly that probably sounds, and I should be thrilled that the audience is excited, but *iykyk*.) Thanks again for uploading these! I have the feeling we'd be kindred bands. ❤️
BRAVO!!!!
Beautiful ...That Got me.This is the second one ive seen, last was "shes leaving home "
I love it ..ooh boy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+heyyou666666 Thank (hey) you!!
This gave me chills!!! What a great cover of this, the most haunting song ever composed.
Chills down my spine, excelent!
It just amaze me that they could know all those instruments sounds and put a song together forever in the Halls of Valhalla
That guy on the piccolo trumpet nailed it...and so did everyone else.
Love these guys so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
certainement pas évident de faire une reprise de cette chanson et de coller au plus près de la version originale !super👍👍👍
Merci, Remy!
That was great!
Love it when the players are wearing funny hats 😂😂 😂
love all the hats reminiscent of when it was first recorded.
+Derpacis The hats, fake noses. wigs and masks were passed out only seconds before the performance began, which is why the players look like they were trying their very best not to break out laughing at each other's costume.
Nice very nice..¡¡¡¡
Beautiful. Simply beautiful. ❤❤❤ 🎸 ❤❤❤ 🎻 🎻 🎻
FANTASTICO
Very fine cover, but there are so many subtle nuances in the Beatles original that are, well, not exaclty "missed "here, but just can't be replicated. This version makes me appreciate the original that much more, even though this one is quite good.
La Música de the Beatles todos sabemos que es magnífica hasta ahí ninguna duda, pero ¿ cómo de lo pasan los músicos interpretandola ? Eso es un show, cómo se divierten, cómo la disfrutan es algo que salta a la vista ! The Beatles forever!
WHOA.......FANTASTIC JOB!!! 🎸💚❤
Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Ryszard K Thank you, Ryszard!

Excellent work all round by our American cousins........................................!!
Brilliant!
Здорово, спасибо 🤗
excelente, recordar buenos temas mi niñez viene a mi mente de una manera muy hermosa. gracias por subir tan buenos recuerdos.
Brilliant! Loved the recreation of the crescendo... was everyone building up in their own random fashion within those bars like how George Martin had instructed the orchestra back then? Would have loved that bit of randomness that the Beatles had envisaged.
All right !
Really great!
+Silvana Vicente Thank you, Silvana!

This is one heck of a fine ensemble! I'd love to hear the BMO perform "Yesterday" and "This Boy", as well as collaborate with Emily Linge.
