not a tattoo artist, but these videos are so helpful for regular people like myself to learn how to identify the strengths and weaknesses of our prospective artists' work! definitely useful in choosing between 'okay' and 'good' work
I'm in the market for a tattoo artist and I'm just binging these videos to see what I should look for and also if I see someone I love I can go look at more of their work and see if they're who I'm looking for
It’s crazy seeing the smallest details/pointers go such a long way on making a tattoo that much better. Definitely watching these videos and using these pointers for my own tattooing. Awesome videos😊
Pony read the comments and took all the critiques and incorporated into the video series and I have to say it is so freaking flawless to watch now! Very professional!!! Thank you Pony for the great video! Looking forward to seeing you do this and collating with more great artists.
It’s interesting to hear Lawson explain techniques. I always knew tattooing was an art form that took a lot of practice to master, but hearing about everything artists have to consider and execute to create a perfect tattoo really justifies the price they charge for their artwork. Sounds like they’re not charging enough if they are masters. ❤ Thanks for the education.
Damn love hearing what you have to say and that you actually offer constructive criticism instead of just saying what you don’t like ♥️ helping the tattoo community
Ive been really wanting a tattoo for a while so been doing my research and came across your work, actually breath taking! Loving the videos! Its so good to see what to look for in other artists work! 💜
Thank you so much for making these critique videos!! Im trying to educate myself on tattoo designing and theyre so useful! I was wondering if you had a video somewhere about the shading techniques you mention in the videos? Keep up the great job 💜
I'm trying to learn more about tattoos. Will the details hold on the axes over time or will it bleed out. I've watched all the videos on single-needle & fine line but I just want more knowledge cause the style looks sick but everyone warns me about it. Thank you
the first tattoo of sofiadsanfonso is Senhor Batato (Mr Potato)! probably tattooed on the guy that designed it 😂 anyone in Porto has to have seen this on the streets, I immediately recgonized it.
I would love to send my work in but feel my artists may be insulted if im sending their work in to be critiqued, sad. Shout if you charge for a private critique 😂😂😂
Pony, have you ever had a customer "accidentally" take a crap on his or herself whilst you are working on them? I have been "professional" now for 6 months and I have had THREE people poop themselves in the last 2 weeks. Is it MY fault? Can any viewers give me some advice? Thankyou.
7:15 graffiti artist here, that throwie at the bottom is awful. Overlap with outlines is fine with a throwie, but a writer will always strive to keep the outline of a throwie the same width the whole way through. Where the first two letters overlap that thin loop/overlap section just looks awful and shouldn't be there. It should either be the same width as the rest of the outline or it shouldn't be there at all. Edit: When you show it closer it looks even worse. The drop shadow should be consistent in one direction showing where the light is coming from. He has shadow at the top and bottom, pick one or the other not both. It would also benefit from some highlights on the opposite sides of the shadow. There's also no letter consistency, the shapes on the top portion of the last letters should be present in the first letters too. That's what defines a good throwie, good outlines, consistent letter shape and letter weight. You can tell he's definitely not a graffiti artist and if he is he's terrible lol. Edit 2: I also noticed the letters on the right hand side are closer together than the first two. Awful, just awful.
@@PonyLawson Hey man - huge fan of your no more tattoo artists in this industry approach - how much are your portraits so I can laugh at what a waste of money your clients paid???

I mean if no one gets tattooed from beginner artists we wouldn’t have tattoo artists in the future 😅 people who voluntarily let beginners practice on them are the real MVPs. As an apprentice I’m glad that some people don’t really care if they have a tattoo with not so perfect lines
@@weirdolini well they could start by practicing more on paper and fake skins. To each their own! Luckily for beginners there are a of people that don't care. I'm just not one of them.
I have give up my skin for an apprentice lately and to be honest people have given “experienced” tattoo artists skin and walked away with worse shit than that! I know that from personal experience lol . Every tattoo I got before 25 even from artists with 15 years+ experience are now getting covered up 🤷🏻♀️
New tattoo peeps gonna get they feelings hurt. Attention to detail is the most important part. For God’s sake plz watch some of these vids before you send in yr first tat that you think is awesome
Who cares - thats how we learn bro - wtf man - youve been brainwashed by these tattoo gatekeepers that are not that good - seriously - there are many styles to tattooing - versatility matters - this guy seems to have found the trick to portraits so its all he does - idk how he makes these videos and actually post them - its super embarrassing
These tattoos are fine, flaws aren't as big a deal as people make em out to be ...like who's gonna stare at your tattoos and pick em apart more then yourself....like ..enjoy the flaws....not a big deal,...

it’s quite annoying when people only say „this is a bad tattoo“ and give no explanation as to why

I never realized how similar tattooing and welding are. Travel speed, travel angle, penetration depth
Must be such an honor wen Pony goes: “I am a pretty big fan of…” ❣️👏👏👏
Love how respectful and encouraging you are when pointing out what could be better and giving suggestions. Excellent stuff

good luck ! :)
Was it critiqued yet?
Your delivery of critique is so kind and thoughtful. Loved watching it, felt like really pleasant educational experience ☺️☺️

I love the first tattoo with the axes and simple flames curling around. That is a beautiful piece of art. ❤ Kudos to the artist.
Always love these! Keep em comin!
Thanks! Will do!
YAY!! I was so worried when you didn't have one last week. DON'T SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN, this is my favorite!
That spider on the hand is amazing! Not what I would want, but I know someone who would love that (and a raven).

Oni mask tattoo? I think that’s a hannya mask tattoo and they are most likely made of wood hence the reason for the wood look in the horns.
why anybody would want a portrait tattoo of a mumble-rapper is beyond me

I mean you can always get the lines fixed by someone else later. Or give the tattoo a background so the lines don't stand out that much.
